Did anyone else watch "The Lost Room" on sci-fi last night? (Miniseries, part 2 is tonight.)

For those who did not but are curious, the premise is somewhat interesting...

A mysterious motel room, the Lost Room, location unknown, is the source of a variety of objects which have mysterious properties. Some are very powerful - a pen which can basically microwave someone. A nail file which will put people to sleep. Others are somewhat less powerful - a watch which, when it is placed around an egg, will hard boil the egg. A bus ticket which will transport someone to a remote location in New Mexico.

Why the objects can do what they do is unknown, but a Pittsburgh police officer (single dad, young daughter, likeable character played by Peter Krause) comes into posession of one of the most powerful objects - the Key - which opens the door to the Lost Room and can open ANY door, anywhere (like Tahiti). Assorted parties are in pursuit of the "objects" (which are indestructible), and he finds himself suddenly in the middle of a chain of shadowy events (of course).

His daughter discovers that items placed in the room vanish. When the door to the room is closed, the room "resets" to its original state. (If you have the key, you are not "reset".) His daughter is kidnapped in an attempt to coerse him to turn over the key, and in trying to escape, ends up being trapped in the room during a reset. His would-be coercer tells him that the key with another object can bring the daughter back. The rest of the mini-series is going to be about this quest to recover his lost daughter.

I enjoyed the first part - I like the character, and the daughter, but the other characters are also entertaining. The wacko dude with the bus ticket made me chuckle a bit. It certainly has me curious as to what really happened in the room to make the objects do what they do (or don't).

So if you saw it, what did you think?

I thought it was pretty good. Kind of wondering if they aren't possibly thinking about making a series out of it. Presumably we aren't going to see all of the objects during the course of the miniseries.

I had the same thought. The nut job said there were "hundreds" of objects. That seems like a slightly high number to me, since you don't usually find hundreds of unique types of objects in a motel room, and some are still there. I wonder if the TV does anything...or the phone...

But really, I mean - pen, pencil, watch, shoe, pants, shirt, jacket, tie, dress, hairdryer, shampoo, soap, razor, clock, phone book, bible, magazine, radio, and so forth. I can see a few dozen, but hundreds? Hundreds of unique types of items? Naaah

Now if they wanna go through "The red button down shirt" or the "left hand mans fuzzy bunny slipper", they could...

Hmm, we could have some fun making up items that do things. So far we have:
Show Defined
-------------
Bus ticket - teleports other to middle of nowhere
Key - opens any door
Clock - ??? not yet specified
Watch - boils eggs
Radio - makes you 3 inches taller (reported, not shown)
Pen - Emits microwave radiation
Pencil - creates pennies (1 at a time)

any others?

There was the Bible and the Pack of Cigarettes that I could see in Kreutzfeld's vault. But the Weasel indicated that they were dormant.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure Wally said there were "about a hundred or so."

Well I enjoyed last nights episode. I thought the picture was a pretty cool object, though it was a mistake to let it go so easily - way too much info in that.

I also totally didn't buy the relationship angle. The two of them have got absolutely NO chemistry, and there was simply no sense of any attraction between them beforehand, and then they're doing the nasty (in a mystery vanishing room, too, now that's kinda sexy), and they're both like, "Just don't break my heart." *sigh* Totally unconvincing...

The rest of the episode was pretty trippy. The comb was way cool!

Saw the first episode and like it alot! If my daughter hadn't been sick I would have watched the second one too. Hopefully I will get to see both parts 2 and the final episode tonight!

i have the feeling her boss told her to seduce him. there was that moment on the phone that they didn't let us here that ahd her looking mighty unhappy.

Well, I enjoyed the ending of The Lost Room. I'm glad they left it a mystery for the most part. Had they tried to come up with some plausible explanation, the world of geeks would be poking holes in it.

I like how they left it as well - they've left it open for a series, given Joe a new layer of mystery and put him in an interesting position to become an object hunter, and given an opening for the key to resurface. (Presumably, when the objects were created, the key was in the room as well. The motel manager "found" the key under mysterious circumstances, so we can conclude that either 1) mystery object man dropped it off or 2) it got itself out of the room)

They've also left room open for the rich guy with the dead kid to come back someday (he has the eye, motel manager did not), and for "the prophet" to play a future role. But they also ended on a good note so that if they don't create a series, its still well enough wrapped up.

A good miniseries - a rare phenomenon indeed!

Seen the first two so far and I am glad to hear they ended it well. I was guessing that at some point the key would be left in the room... and also guessing it might not stay there.

Finished watching the last one. Pretty much agree w/ Greebs on all points. Good min-series.
