Did anyone else watch "The Lost Room" on sci-fi last night? (Miniseries, part 2 is tonight.)
For those who did not but are curious, the premise is somewhat interesting...
A mysterious motel room, the Lost Room, location unknown, is the source of a variety of objects which have mysterious properties. Some are very powerful - a pen which can basically microwave someone. A nail file which will put people to sleep. Others are somewhat less powerful - a watch which, when it is placed around an egg, will hard boil the egg. A bus ticket which will transport someone to a remote location in New Mexico.
Why the objects can do what they do is unknown, but a Pittsburgh police officer (single dad, young daughter, likeable character played by Peter Krause) comes into posession of one of the most powerful objects - the Key - which opens the door to the Lost Room and can open ANY door, anywhere (like Tahiti). Assorted parties are in pursuit of the "objects" (which are indestructible), and he finds himself suddenly in the middle of a chain of shadowy events (of course).
His daughter discovers that items placed in the room vanish. When the door to the room is closed, the room "resets" to its original state. (If you have the key, you are not "reset".) His daughter is kidnapped in an attempt to coerse him to turn over the key, and in trying to escape, ends up being trapped in the room during a reset. His would-be coercer tells him that the key with another object can bring the daughter back. The rest of the mini-series is going to be about this quest to recover his lost daughter.
I enjoyed the first part - I like the character, and the daughter, but the other characters are also entertaining. The wacko dude with the bus ticket made me chuckle a bit. It certainly has me curious as to what really happened in the room to make the objects do what they do (or don't).
So if you saw it, what did you think?
