Ooh, if Joey Mad was involved, my interest is peaked.

He's drawing the Ultimates Volume 3, which, given his sllllllooooooowwww rate of production, should be completed sometime in 2021.

Heh, that sounds familiar.

Ethan Van Sciver and Ivan Reis both do gorgeous pencils, but it takes them both ages to create them, so we've been getting about 9 issues of Green Lantern a year. Admittedly all of those issues kick ass, but it would be nice to see it be the monthly book it's supposed to be.

So where does he fall on the Art Adams scale of glaciation? :rotflmao:

I think we're still waiting on the next issue of Battle Chasers to come out... In fact, I think that title's still on my pull list. :lowlol:

I loved Battle Chasers. I heard that it was on indefinite hiatus, though :(

joemadfan.com is a pretty decent site... At least, I haven't found better yet ;)

Fine, be that way.

One day shy of 1 month ago, I bought CW5, the next Astonishing X-Men, and New Avengers. I finally read them this morning. CW#5 was very good.* The New Avengers was one of my favorite CW-side stories thus far, but its conclusion made it irrelevent, which kinda stinks. The Astonishing X-Men story was very enjoyable, but the ending left me a little confused, and that's not cool.

* I really enjoy when a writer (comic, novel, whatever) challenges the reader by intentionally skipping stuff, and you have to "fill in the blanks" to complete the story. When it pushes the story along, I'm all for it. However, in regards to Civil War, I have to admit I'm kinda longing for more story from some of the captures or the various fringe missions that members of the resistance go on. For instance, in CW#5 when the hero is being walked into 42... How did that happen? And why is his uniform barely scratched or dirtied? I'm glad it's such a short mini, 7issues, but I kinda wish they had done a simultaneous series, a "co-mini-series," if you will...

Imagine. Civil War #1 comes out, then two weeks later CW#1.5 comes out, different writer and artist, but ones handpicked by the main mini's creators, that details some of the missing fields in the first issue.

Specifically, CW#5.5 could have a short four-page story about Johnny and Sue's mission. Then it could have a 5-pg dialogue/story setting up Castle's appearance. And an 8-pg battle where DD is captured. Tons of things that could be done, and for those who thoroughly enjoy the main story, the intermitent mini wouldn't be essential at all. It'd be for those who want the entire story. Just an idea, but one inspired by my own wishes. ;)

I can address this a bit.

Mark was trying to provide an overall stroyline where other people could plug in their bits.

This happened to a more or lesser extent depending, I think in all honesty, how much control Marvel had over their individual writers.

Which is probably why, in my opinion, JMS's tie ins sorta sucked. Again, this is just me talking, but I think he got pissy over having to take part and kinda started doing his own thing.

I also think the Civil War: Frontline was suppsoed to sorta fill in some lanks as well (although not the most glaring on, the DD one you pointed out). I have no idea if it is or not though, as I'm only reading the main title.

And again, wait until you see 6 and 7. I've seen the uncolored version of 6 and it is very cool and I've read the script on 7 and it is awesome.

In a time when comics seem to be alrgelya bout heroes brooding and whatnot, Mark was trying to make the sort of comic that got him excited when he was a kid (so Secret Wars, all the cool heros in one title sort of thing where everyone punches everyone else).

Please don't misunderstand me... The concept for Civil War is totally fulfilling my geekhood quota for this and last year. :lowrazz: I love the concept. And the execution is going, generally, well. But it's some of the specifics that kinda annoy me, such as...

JMS's tie ins sorta sucked.
Yeah, I thought they've been kinda weak, as his stories are pretty much exactly as you would envision the Spidey angles to play out, given the plot in the main book.

I also think the Civil War: Frontline was suppsoed to sorta fill in some lanks as well
I'm buying and reading CW:F, but the book is an assortment of various stories throughout the CW. It's Speedball's trial and trials, it's the Atlantaen superspies, it's the media angle (Ben Urich, et al), and the fill-in bit at the end of each issue, relating one superhero and his deeds to an American-fought war event. I'm enjoying the media angle. The Atlantaen angle kinda bores me (tho the art is decent; wish they'd've killed off (again) Wonderman). Speedball's time in prison was kinda entertaining.

Way too many kinda's in that title for my preference, tho'. :D

The Wolverine tie-in was cool, if only because it showed that SOMEBODY was actually making an effort to capture the villain that was ultimately responsible for all the deaths.

I've already detailed my issues with the series elsewhere, and am reserving judgment ultimately until it ends.

So far, "Superboy Prime punch" retcons aside, I'd give the edge IMHO to Infinite Crisis so far this year. But part of that may be my own ingrained bias towards DC as well.

Finally read the CW#6, the IronMan/Cap one-shot, New Avengers, Astonishing XMen, and the two latest Amazing Spiderman. I still have CW:F #8-10 to catch up on, but I'm now kinda wondering why I made the purchase.

I have to say, I'm getting a bit underwhelmed by the CW story as we approach its conclusion. I thought the death of Bill Foster was a fantastic plot point, the Thor clone and its origin were great, the breakup of Reed and Sue inevitable but well done, and the whole plotline with Spiderman great (and 90% as I predicted, the only exception being that I thought the armor would be used as a beacon to find the rebel base, not to stop a fight). But in #6 nothing significant really happened other than setting up the showdown in #7. Thought the preparations for the state protectorates was kinda interesting, tho'.

Iron Man/Captain America CW one-shot was a genuinely good, fun read, reminiscing about tons of storylines I not only know, I read the first time through (Armor Wars, Rogers donning the Captain and Nomad personas, the Machine Man reference (was in an Annual I own :goodie!:), and several others). Was a fun dialogue to follow, especially the restraint shown by Cap throughout the issue.

The New Avengers was interesting, esp that half the book occurred on Wundagore Mountain, to which I've seen no reference for the past 15yrs in the Marvel U! The two revelations were not quite a shocking to me, given the very nature of the Marvel U and that I have little true connection to the Avengers House of M storyline. And the new artist, whose name escapes me (Maleev, maybe?) has an interesting style.

Amazing Spiderman 536-537 were decent, but I wish I hadn't bought them. Kinda more of the same. Think the final CW tiein will be my last of this book.

Astonishing XMen was great. Very enjoyable. Really liked the scenes on Breakworld, thought that was perfect backstory and motivation.

I'm thinking that, within the next six months, I'll be out of comics completely. Which is kinda good, since I'm already some 8500+ comics into collecting. Would give me time to sort and sell, hopefully.
