Hey,
Recently, a nurse in N. Texas was arrested for murder, the charges stemming from the previously unexplained deaths of five patients she took care of, the actual total may be as many as twenty. The allegations are that she injected them with mivacurium chloride, a drug that paralyzes the respiratory muscles stopping breathing (used to make endo-tracheal intubation easier, it doesn't last long, but if you don't breathe or have someone breathing for you for five minutes...).
These are capital murder charges, and if she is found guilty the penalty in the State of Texas is, yeah buddy, lethal injection.

If only punishment fit the crime more often.
I heard a news story 2 or 3 days ago about a man who, with his friends joking and laughing as they looked on, threw an 8 week old kitten on a burning barbeque.
They pulled the kitten off the barbeque, eventually, but it was so badly injured it had to be put down.
Suitable punishment in my mind would be to soak the man's hand in gasoline and set it on fire.

I saw that too greebo.
unfortunatly, the limits (or lack thereof) of man's cruelty never ceases to amaze me.

I say we soak him in barbeque sauce and throw him into a lions den for a bit.

I agree. That's sick. Just SICK. There are times when I just can't believe what people are capable of.

I'm no expert on wild life, but I doubt if lions would like barbeque sauce...
I say just use liquefied deer suet instead of the bbq sauce, then throw him into the lions' den.

I'd love to kill the person(s) responsible for this myself. I'd give them the exact same treatment they gave the animals in their care. Bastards.

Why torture the lions? Throw him and his friends on the grill.
Bastards.

Unfortunately, there are always a handful of people that are willing to be the lower form of human out there.
And luckily the 8th Amendment to the Constitution prevents us from lowering ourselves to their level.
Although, I agree with everyone that sometimes these types of criminals beg for the most unusual punishments.

In the interest of keeping the thread on topic...
Biaxin, was the nurse's intent to euthenize terminally ill patients, or was she murdering those expected to live?
While I know what the law says about mercy-killing, I'm not morally convinced that in some situations it's wrong.

Hey,
I didn't see any definite statement, but the article I read made mention of 'mercy killing'. I can almost see an argument for a, single, mercy killing, but five seems excessive, possibly twenty seems obsessive.
Mercy killing is a lot tougher issue to take a positive stand on, tougher even than Kervorkian's assisted suicide. You can't depend on the morals and motives of someone else to do it right, whether or not you think (or would think if you could) it's time. That's why it's so important to have legal documentation specifying what you want done or not done and when.

Hey,
To answer the question better, most of her alleged victims were elderly, but one was 14 (and survived). Though 'mercy killing' was mentioned there was no publicized evidence that that was the motive in all cases. My initial thinking is that this might be someone who killed, the first time, for at least arguable reasons, then it got good to them.
The method is relatively clean, as well, as sudden respiratory distress and failure can happen quickly, with any of a number of precipitating traumas or illnesses. Unless you do it a lot, in a small town, and not all of them croak.
