So how would this work... one thread per round? Might be easier for organization... with round #, and initiative order in the title? It's more threads, but that way easier to know what you've acted in and not. I'm thinking the forum would look something like:
Game N: Round X+2: Tess, Flay, Turin, Sitara, Sarz, Der Goater
Game N: Round X+1: Der Goater, Turin, Sitara, Tess, Sarz, Flay
Game N: Round X: Sarz, Der Goater, Tess, Flay, Turin, Sitara
Round would end with GM calling for init rolls and them being made by chars (emailed to GM via the roller form). GM posts the new thread in the above format.
I'm going to attempt to RP my posts as much as is possible, maybe with some OOC stuff in italics.

So we are going to roll using that webpage? How attentive will be have to be? Looks like I am resigning tomorrow.

web page?
Yeah, I'm ready to go as well.
Atty, I do have a question in how picky you are going to be about the mundane stuff. Do I need to track everything like food, match sticks, pots and pans, etc.? I'm assuming that you will assume that we can get the mundane stuff and have it on hand as necessary.

I was going to post the dice rolling site again butI'm going to make a new thread that lists the site resources we did and will be using.
I'm also ready to go. I'm all fired up having spent the day listening to the PA/DnD podcasts.

yeah, i don't really care about the mundanities. I mean, if you start trying to prepare a gourmet meal to impress a king so he'll lift your death sentence or you participate in Iron Chef D&D, then yeah, I may want to see where you spent money on the bits. If you start using gold dust and diamond powder to leave a trail you can follow ...
but as long as we're talking about "hey, did anyone remember to bring something to cook this fish i caught?" we'll assume that between the however many of you there are, someone was smart enough to bring a fishing hook, some matches or other fire-starters, etc.

I figure we'll do threads for the between fight bits (there's between fight bits sometimes) and then sure we'll do a thread per round. Initiative won't generally change too much between rounds, though, so I may skip that step. or probably actually post it in the first post in each round

Sounds great. I'm ready to go, this'll be a learning experience!
Q: What should our basic starting inventories be? Should rogues be in leather? Casters in leather/cloth? Fighters in mail? Or are we gonna work our way up from street clothes?

you are adventurers. you should have stuff. basic armor and weapons, some gear, etc.
If you want anything beyond pitch torches, you might want to invest in that, etc

Invest? 'Splain.
According to my profile I've got 4lbs worth of equipment (not counting my hefty spellbook). I'm wearing cloth and have no shield. I don't see anything that lists any weapon that I'm carrying.

Quarterstaff: +2 vs AC [0 strength] [+2 proficiency]; damage 1[W]=1d8 4 lb (Staff)
Presumably to attack with it you're carrying it with you :)
And by invest, I just mean that if you want something better than basic torches you'll need to account for it in your equipment. Like, if you'd rather have a basic lantern, or an expensive lantern for that matter, you need to point that out before we start up.
I know 3e had some particular rules about how much money each character started with to buy their gear with and all, I don't remember if 4e has the same. Soemone with the phb wanna look that up? :o
OTOH, I'm not too particular about having the basics (like I said, matches, pans, bedroll, etc), and unless you start saying you have a lotta expensive stuff, I'm not going to worry about the costs.

Look at my guy for an example. Things we will want: sun rods (light source although mages get light spell as a cantrip in 4E so that usually isn;t a problem for the party as a whole), some rope, paper and ink (mages should have that anyway). Blankets can be used for lots of things. So can string and chalk.

Oh, I thought that was what I'd hit if I *had* a quarterstaff. I see now. Thanks.

well, technically, yes. but if you don't have one, you'd want to erase it from your sheet because it's somewhat meaningless without a quarterstaff :o

Two things:
1. What armor do I start out with as well?
2. Rounding, do we do standard rounding? So, if it says take half of your level (1), is that 1 or a 0?

I believe everything I saw indicated "round down", so think of it as trunc() rather than round()

It's a little hard to read the pasted sheets, so it's easy to lose it
Armor: Chainmail (40 lb)
No shield

Yeah, I'll be relying on sunrods and stuff. Which kinda sucks, cuz I'll likely be doing some scouting.

I prefer scale, myself. Better AC with the same -1 movement penalty but it lacks the -1 str/dex/con skill check penalty. Weighs 5lbs more.
For the record, Hide AC = 1+ Leather AC but Hide has the skill check penalty.

I gave my guy 10 feet of chain, a crowbar, and a hooded lantern as items that fit his back story of having been a minor gang leader. All are items one might have if they are not adept at breaking & entering in a more subtle fashion.
He's wearing leather for now, although I'll probably switch to a chain or scale type armor at a later juncture. My weapon is a greatsword and I might go back and add a small blunt weapon (a means of non lethal incapacitation) or knuckledusters if such exist.

I was reading briefly thru the PHB and found this on page 11:
Always Round Down
Unless otherwise noted, if you wind up with a fraction
as the result of a calculation, round down even if the
fraction is 1/2 or larger. For instance, this rule comes
into play whenever you calculate one-half your level:
If your level is an odd number, you always round down
to the next lower whole number.
