Another die rolling site, this one better for simple single rolls (thanks, Shiz and Ash):

Does anyone have another link to the pdf of the players handbook? I don't have mine with me and don't know what any of my abilities do.

I like that summary chart, even just for my use.

Now, its something I should probably figure out, just missing it. What are the B/M/P and B/A/M columns? Is the first one Base/?/Party? I'm not getting the A or M though... I'm sure they're just too easy and I'm overlooking something.

For those who might not be doing this. Here's a suggestion. I also use a file like this. It has all of Baladir's powers listed on it. It's just a text file. But when I use a power, I just copy directly from the file, and past it into the post. It saves me from typos and leaving out important information.

Just a thought.

Hmm... that'd be good. And less likely to attract attention when seen compared to the nice colorful D&D character sheets. ;)

I talked about combat cards earlier today. I have been using the ones in the 4e books but they lack alot.

I made these today at lunch - they contain alot of the stuff I wish was on the "official ones".

I use them to keep track of stuff during battle. I put them in initiative order and just move through them one by one when I resolve combat.

For the DMS

This mocks up a spread sheet by which you can set up a table for tracking hps, surges, etc. The hidden rows are used to construct the final output on row 30. Example of the output:
InitPlayer/NPCDamageEffectsHPSSurgesDailiesHeals31Four-Armed Gargoyle72Mark-Grunther(2); Quarry: Aaron26Tiefon0-857-22Grunther0-11413-19Gerik0-679-18Aaron16-587-13Lyla0-747-10Sather16-5718-2/2

Update the yellow area, copy A30 and paste.

Note you *DO* need a - or something in empty cells or they shift over. Stupid vbulletin.

I added a little (well, a lot. I hate Excel) of logic to highlight the word "Bloodied" in red. If you want it do the following:

...thought about posting the steps to do it but forget it. Here's my file. If you want the code check out the (hidden on your spreadsheets) cells F17 thru F27.

New revision - tracks APs, and if you flag monster = 1 it hides HPs in the output but lets you see HPs in the table

Eventually I plan to have it auto determine bloodied state for us.

Ooh, good idea (re: auto track bloodied). If you don't work on it tomorrow, maybe I can do that while avoiding yet another terribly though up requirement I was given today.

Talking to Greebs, I know he's already made some updates to the spreadsheet but here's my current version. It auto detects Bloodied status and hides all the info for monster NPCs. It also auto inserts the dashes for the Effects, Dailies, and Heals columns so you don't have to. Just leave the cell blank and it'll get done.

TODO:

1. Change Damage and HPS columns to be one column. I'm having too much trouble figuring out how many HPs ppl have left.

2. Auto detect "dead" and put that in the Effects column.

3. (Maybe) Column for "Currently Up in Init Order" so it'll auto Bold the name for me.

Greebo
21st May 2009, 03:02 PM
I added 2 columns off site (to the left) to calculate bloodied and hps remaining for me, without showing them in the output.

But alternatively the base hp col could be off screen and the shown HP col would be base - dmg

Autodetect dying wouldn't suck

Auto sort by init order is something i intend to add too in a revamp - something where you fill out the info, its sorted and prepared first in an out of sight tab, then the output is presented for you where you fill it out

So display both in one column, or display only one of them? I rather like seeing both numbers, especially the HPs.

For me it'll probably be how I used to do it by hand: remaining_hps / total_hps

Ok - Sagar, ES, I think you'll like this one. You fill out one page. You can put the PCs up top and leave them there forever. Current HPS, bloodied, dying are all auto calculated. SORTING is done automatically by the combination of initiative and init modifier.

Fill out the grid and copy the "output copy me" data. All the work is done on the 2nd tab out of sight.

ES I told you this would make you want to have my babies. :)

However, this may require Excel 2007 - let me know if you're using an older version and what results you get. Otherwise I'll test from home.

Very nice!

One minor thing that you can fix or not. If I can decipher all the IFs and VLOOKUPs I'll give it a shot. It doesn't correctly add "Dying" to the Effects for an NPC. Change the NPC column from 1 to 0 and "Dying" is added. The 1 in the Dying column is calculated correctly but not the text in the effect.

Maybe you did it on purpose tho. Altho for an NPC I'd rather it just said "Dead".

Either way - your Excel-fu is strong. Your master should be proud.

Greebo

I did it on purpose - an NPC at or below 0 hps is dead.

Cool... playing around a bit with it myself for the helluvit, and come up with a general question, perhaps not so related to this, but mechanics. Do temporary hitpoints bring a character out of bloodied status? Say JoeSchmoe is at 15/40hp, obviously bloodied, but he has 10thp. Would he be at 25/40, and thus not considered bloodied? Or do the THP act more like a ward, and when hit take damage from THP first? So could be bloodied, but with a 'protective shield' of a few THP.

Greebo
27th May 2009, 02:27 PM
No, temp hps do not replace hps. THPs act like a ward as you described.

Reading back over this thread and realized this wasn't clear.

An NPC below 0 hps is dead, so I delete them from the grid completely, is what I should have said.

Now that said - now that this has gotten some use - what can be done to improve this?

I'm not gonna build in a "short rest/reset" function - that would require a bit too much coding. But that's the main thing I would wish for. ;)
