View Full Version : Group 1: Adventure 2

A couple day's walk and the group arrives back at the site of their former destruction.

After some searching, Goater finds suggestion that more goblins have been through the area since the last encounter, presumably to find what happened to their skirmishing group. It seems unlikely that they'll chalk the deaths up to "unexplained circumstances," they may be waiting for you as you continue on their trail.

But the second group was definitely larger, and as such left behind a more legible trail than the week-old one that was already faint when you were here the first time.

The trail leads directly into the hills and trees. Anything waiting for you is well out of sight.

BTW -- did you guys bring the horse? Leave it behind? Sell it for beer and wenches?

I'll resume scouting the trail again, if nobody objects, sneaking as I can, making best use of cover.

"What?"

PS: Did you get the creds I sent you to my mapping site? It's a bit improved since I sent them. If you don't wanna use it, that's up to you too, but it's working out well for us in game 3.

Ummmm, beer and wenches. ;)

We brought the horse with us.

You guys ready? Let's keep an eye out for ambush locations. We don't want to get in a bad spot. Bad spot would be anywhere that has a high ledge above us where enemies could shoot down at us. Also, any spot which bottle necks, or a spot where we are walking into an area blind. We'll do more investigation prior to jumping in head first in those situations. We'll let Der Goater determine actions to take in that case. :D

Yes, I'm paranoid.

Well, that brings up a different question. What's the horse doing? You riding it? It riding you? Wandering behind you? Are you holding the leads? How are you feeding it? You don't need to give me blow by blow, but a general idea of what the horse's job on this trip is. Since you only have one, it seems silly for you to ride off and get like a day ahead of everyone else on your own ;)

Sitara says, "having Tess scout a bit ahead sounds like a good idea." She then readies herself just in case she has to cast a spell or two against some enemies. She figures the goblins are unlikely to be patrolling the area a week after their comrades were killed, but figured better safe then sorry.

The horse is riden by whoever feels the need to ride. Since I have the short stubby legs, it might make our trip a little less slow if I ride unless there is another person who needs to ride. We can have the horse more towards the back while we work the tracks of this larger group. If we think we're getting close, we can tether the horse to a tree until we return.

I don't like the idea of Tess going too far out ahead of us. Like last time, she could be dead by the time we get to her.

"Hold on a second. We KNOW there are goblins in those trees. We KNOW they will have scouts that we likely won't see. Sending Tess ahead by herself is nuts. She is just going to get jumped.

"I propose that we just enter the woods and proceed cautiously together. Goat and I in front, everyone else behind us. It isn't a jungle so we aren't going to get separated. If Tess wants to stay wide of the group and a bit ahead of us, fine, but she shouldn't be our point man.

"We know what we are going to find eventually, so just keep that in mind and don't make unnecessary noises. Anyone on horseback is going to draw the first fire. I say just lead it for now."

My proposed "formation" is something like

---Sarz--------Goat
------Turin--Flay---
-----Sitara-----

Stealth has a movement penalty anyway, so Tess cannot scout in stealth and stay ahead of us unless we stop every 5 minutes.

An_insubstantialvoiceoutofnowhere_01 says: You may as well. Any seasoned adventurer knows that your horses and everything on them are toast when you go into that next dungeon. And oh yeah, I almost forgot, when was the last time any of you changed clothes and took a bath? You're looking a bit threadbare, and frankly, you all smell. You never know when you'll need to meet a king. Spend a little money on nice threads already.

OK, trying the niffy tools ... http://www.primeaxiom.com/rpgt The brush is the trail you're following ; It's still trees, really, but I couldn't find a paintbrush to mark with, so it's brush-y, because the trail is already broken ... work with me here

Tess leads the group, trying to stay ~30' ahead of the rest as they move through the brush (Stealth: 29; I'll give you the choice: Do you want to make the time to keep ahead, and still move pretty quietly, or sacrifice the speed to keep the full 29? (or, i suppose, mke everyone else slow down to move slowly so you stay ahead AND keep the 29))

The group has followed the trail 100m into the woods so far, and the land is starting to slant upwards. As they've moved through, Sarz and Flay have noticed that some of the trees look like they've had marks carved into them sometime in the past, and Turin notes some torn cloth on a branch just off the side of the trail, when the horse moves to graze on a branch (Perception: 7 13 22 14 21 18). No one senses anyone watching them yet.

Attriel: The URL you want is on the scene page, at the bottom, which includes a 64 character key string. You can also place every PC and NPC (if any). The maps can be created independently of the scenes, but the scenes are what tie the map and the pcs and npcs together.

IC: I don't think we should waste a 29 stealth roll, it's the best I can get...

http://www.primeaxiom.com/rpgt/scene.asp?ID=l582zw47ju5vi5rk3noxrcwsvb5ssxc2vcge7 pl8zlemrshfguevulkde4tgzwp3

Turin snags the piece of cloth as he passes it. As they walk, he turns it over and rubs it between his hands. It feels like a rough spun sack. Something like a fieldsman's (tennant farmer) tunic or something to haul the crop in.

Tess continues to trail ahead of the group, keeping to the brush and trees to the west of the broken path. After a hundred feet or so, the ground opens up on the east, and she can see some kind of building north and east of the group. A little further on, she finds the wood breaks for an old path that has been walked into hard clay, although she notes that there are some cracks beginning to appear. It'll be only a few more years before the path, wherever it leads from, is devoured by the forest once again.

Stopping on the edge of the wood by the road, she can see the temple ~100' NE of her. Her view of the front is blocked by some large stones jutting from the ground like the fingers of a giant that fell. The road in front of her gives no indications of who or what has been travelling it, if indeed it has seen any traffic in years. The trail she was following led in this direction but vanished when the wood opened up, presumably leading into the clearings. Having chosen to stay out of plain sight, she cannot be sure anymore. The rocks, however, sparkle and glint in the sun, as though metal or crystal.

She returns to the group to tell them what she saw from her vantage.

Map (http://www.primeaxiom.com/rpgt/scene.asp?ID=l582zw47ju5vi5rk3noxrcwsvb5ssxc2vcge7 pl8zlemrshfguevulkde4tgzwp3)
The squares are 20' Flay, Turin and Sitara are in the same squares as Sarz and Goat. I just chose not to draw them because I wanted the larger scale map. There is a low rise at 9, preventing the rest of the group from getting a good view of the temple.
