I suppose this is the best place to ask, but was wondering if there were any cooks in the house... dad and I are having baked tilapia filets tonight marinated in a lemon garlic sauce. Typically we would just throw some white rice on as a side, but I'm in the mood for something new and different. Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a relatively quick and easy side that would compliment the fish.

Thanks!

well, i'm not a complicated man, but:

Steamed pole beans (green beans)
Broccoli works well

For rices --
Pilaf
Saffron rice works really well and has enough different flavour that it doesn't seem like rice

Like I said. I'm a simple man ;) (and I'm a happy man: I can eat FISH AGAIN!!!!! thank you, and good night)

I used to like macaroni and cheese with my fish. Still do but I have the severe diet thing going on and the mac-n-cheese is out for now. Even better thought is asparagus. The fresh stuff, not that green moosh in a can. I just heat up a frying pan half full of water, cut the pencil thick spears into thirds and throw them in for a few minutes. Put on some garlic salt and maybe some lemon juice if you want. I could eat that just about every day!

This may be late, but couscous is good. Amazingly easy to cook and if you buy the generic type you can spice and sauce it as much as you like. The boxed varieties are ridiculously simple to prepare, but are a tad high in sodium.

Had to mention this.. Today at my work's cafeteria, they served baked tilapia mango (tilapia with a fruit relish). As side dishes they offerred ... wait for it ... green beans with mushroom shavings, broccoli, or macaroni'n'cheese.

On a related but irrelevent topic... I ordered the tilapia. When I did, I asked for "the baked tilapia," pronouncing it ti-lah'-pee-ah. Chef/server asked me to repeat it, so I did. Then he said, "Oh, you mean the fish?" "Yeah, the fish please." *sigh*
