Burst damage1 and 2. Does anyone have a picture of what that looks like in map squares? I've been searching but my googlefu is weak this morning.

A Burst emanates in all directions from the point of origin. Close Burst means the character is the point of origin. If a Burst attack has a range, that means you can pick the point of origin as any square within that range. A Burst 1 covers 9 squares.
A Blast emanates from the square in front of the attacking character and goes forward the number of squares of the Blast. A Blast 3 covers 9 squares: the center being 2 out from the caster. Blasts can be cast to start in a corner square so you can aim diagonally.
There is a page in the PHB1 that shows how they look.

Perfect, that's what I thought but couldn't for the life of me find a picture or description to confirm.
Figured i'd better confirm before dropping an AE in the midst of my party :D

Besides 4E if FOF (friend or foe) smart.... so far all the powers i have read "Enemy in Target Area"
I have seen one that say all creatures in target area. (But i could be wrong, cant say i have read every power for every class.)

Some of the classes are mostly FOF smart, and for other classes, only a few of the powers are. For the wizzie, most of their AoE spells are not FOF smart, they'll hit anyone and anything in the way. There are a few wizzie powers later on that target enemies only.

I am considering switching my at-will ranged to an "all creatures" attack because it is low damage but it let's me slide everything in the blast 1 square at my discretion. This would be awesome for positioning everyone: Chill Wind.

Seems inconsistent.
Burst 1 = burst outward on a radius of 1 square centered on the caster
Blast 3 = blast an area 3 squares in diameter centered on a square of the caster's choosing
IMO it should be Burst1 and Blast1 where both represent the radiation radius from the center point, and burst means "from the caster not including their square" and blast means "from a point chosen by the caster including the target square".
But thats my anal retentive side showing.

Well, add in the Area Burst spells that are not centered on the caster.
Sleep - Area Burst 2, Range 20.
So it covers a 5x5 area, centered on the target square; and the target square must be within 20 squares.
When I was first reading about Burst and Blast, I was a bit confused as well. Mostly I've settled into it with use. That, and I've only been personally dealing with Area Burst stuff, so I've got that figured out no prob.

Oh, and I think the other requirement for Blast is that the area of effect must be adjacent to the caster at some point. Even if just on the corner of it.
