View Full Version : Would a 3rd group be too much?

So I've really been getting back into DnD - didn't realize how much I'd missed it until I started reading the group threads - and one thing I always *loved* doing was the job of DM.

I'm seeking out local players, but that will take time, and I am eager to start resharpening my DM skills - so I'm wondering, would anyone be interested in participating in a 3rd group?

For those interested, I am thinking about running the Scales of War campaign from Dungeon Magazine. I've already read the first adventure in a campaign designed to take players from levels 1 - 30, and I'm really REALLY impressed with the quality. Enough so that I've decided that for my first foray back into the world of DMing, that instead of starting from scratch, I'd like to use this material.

IF you are interested, and either do not know the series or can play a character so that nobody ever suspects you know the series (to preserve the atmosphere for the others), please reply here stating your interest and the desired role you'd like to fill. If there is enough interest, we'll take it from there!

Respondents:
Asharad - In - Controller (undecided: Wiz/Sorc)
Quervo - In - Bard (Leader)
Sagar - In - Sorcerer (Striker)
Attriel - In
Shiz - Unless someone else chimes in

I am up for it.

I would join as the 5th player if needed. I want to play a melee type at some point. I am obviously the lowest priority since I am in 2 already.

I have no idea what Scales of War is.

I am looking at playing either a Bard or Shaman (Arcane or Primal Leader classes) (will provide complete write up on class if needed

I was reviewing those yesterday (yes, I bought PH2 over the weekend...I'm hooked) - my initial impression was that of the two, Shaman would be the better "leader" (read healer) by far. The Bard, however, looked interesting too. It would be interesting to see what happens w/ a non cleric group. :)

I'm interested but I'm having a hard time DM'ing for group 4 and playing in group 3. If it turns out you need a 5th, I'll play.

If it's going to be a week or two before the start i'd be interested. Still working on finishing the PHB so I wouldn't want to take on a second class before that.

ES: I've no doubt its draining, and from what I'm seeing so far, the adventures in SoW {tee hee: SoW plz} will be relatively fast paced. They are well fleshed out with some pretty interesting scenarios and unique and complex skill challenges (with initiative rolls no less) that will require a pretty responsive group if the play is to keep moving. If you're finding yourself taxed now, then joining another may be overwhelming, I agree.

Moon: I would want to start as soon as everyone is ready. I'd expect char creation to take a day or two at most once people agree upon the roles. Your discretion - but I've got *no* problem if the early pace is slow while ppl are getting up to speed. I'll be getting up to speed myself at first.

Warlord has the same basic healing power as a cleric. The shaman's healing is lower but he can heal 2 people - the target and whomever is adjacent to his pet. Group 4 is lower on healing resources than Group 3 and a few times Group 3 has been in desperate straits where the Paladin healing was critical.

That said, a melee defender with temp hp powers would complement a lower healing capable group quite well.

I should mention up front, I like a group that engages in role play. If you're not interested in the RP side of D&D, my adventures will likely not be for you.

Might want to put a post in the main forum.

One of the bard class abilities is the cleric heal, encounter power target uses healing surge + users cha bonus usable twice per encounter at level 1

Greebo

Oh I do remember seeing that. Like the Cleric's Word of Healing. Now that I think about it, the cleric at-will powers didn't do healing so much as temp hps and buffs.

Roll or standard array??

Half-Elf Bard for me.

I didn't want to get ahead of myself and start specifying character creation guidelines until we knew we'd have a group, but if you're wanting to get started early, then either Standard Array, or pick 22. I'd allow rolling but the friggin code for dice rolling crashed the forums this morning when I tried to add it. (Thus the reason I'm working on an update) If you really want to roll, then I'll roll the best 3 of 4d6 x 6 for you.

Since making characters is fun and I have my Genasi (FR race allowed?) Barbarian in the hopper, I am going to work on a fighter build. Once again, though, I am here to fill in the last spot. I don't want to appear as greedy as I feel....

Sagar

I'd love to play. I'd like a dragonborn sorcerer.

Greebo

Shiz if you don't grab the spot it'll be gone. Be greedy like Sagar. ;)

Can we use all the races in the character creator?

attriel

well, if there's still a space left 90 minutes after you posted, I'll take it.

If not, *pfft*

And then there was 1...

Moon or Shiz are going to have to commit soon... ;)

PH 1 & 2 only please. Mainly cause I'm not up on other options.

Martial Powers book ok too? (just asking - I don't think there is anything there I need.

Asharad

That's fine.

I'm thinking Deva invoker or wizard. Not sure which yet, but I've never actually played a caster in anything, insofar as I can remember.

Not in my library (yet) so I'd rather not.

Strike that and my previous answer to asharad.

I have access to the DND compendium via dndinsider, so:
All official races/classes/powers allowed.

Given the faster than expected response times, I'll leave the invite open for the rest of the day. If anyone else jumps in before then, the 5th spot will be theirs. Otherwise I'll let Shiz and Moonie duke it out.

Eh, it seems like there is plenty of interest already. I guess I'll stick with "group 4" for now.

Shiz

I defer to Moonie but seeing as she said she wanted a week or two and I know Greebo does not, I will claim the 5th spot tomorrow morning if no one else does.

I'd be interested... but don't have the free time at work to keep up with two groups.

Heck, I haven't even been reading G4 for awhile now.

1 spot left will go to shiz by default if nobody else chimes in by morning.
