You fill 7 bags with your stuff and the lizardmen fill the other two bags with copper and take it, with your permission.

You have a short meeting with the Prince and Minister who thank you for all your efforts and tell you to contact them if they can ever help you.

You ferry out to the ship in 2 stages. There, the crew is memorized by the tales of your adventures and very grateful for the bag of silver.

+50 xp each for the "tip" to the crew.

Back in town, you report to the Mayor of all that transpired. He is suitably impressed and asks to see the dragon scales. Ooing and Ahhhing over them, he manages to cut himself on their sharp edges. He laughs as he sucks the blood off his finger and assures you he will get your reward and deposit to you that evening.

He asks if you are going back to your house or if you are going to hang around town.

House. Time to take a break...until MOnday?

Sagar
11th April 2009, 07:21 PM
Break until Monday..

You tell the Mayor that you will come back to town tomorrow. Today, you are going back to the house for a well deserved rest.

When you get back, Michael, Wendy and Alfred are waiting for you just inside the house. Wendy looks excited and a bit proud. Michael and Alfred look just slightly chagrined.

Wendy says, "We were attacked while you were gone!"

Seeing you looking suitable shocked, she goes on, "The ladies and I were practicing early yesterday morning when 5 rough looking guys rode up. We hid our weapons and they started acting like they were just going to barge right into the house. Well Mildred whips out her shortbow and plugged two in the leg and I used Brunhilde's Cleave to hit one and wound another and 3 more of the ladies went after another...
And when Michael came roaring out of the house, they broke and ran!!! Mildred shot a few more arrows after 'em to make sure they KEPT running!!"

She seems elated that she and the "ladies" routed the ruffians.

Alfred adds, "The ladies were most effective, Sirs and Madame. I admit, I watched from the upstairs window and they were very composed and effective.
"But, uhm, that attack was apparently a diversion. While they women were routing the roughnecks, two more snuck in through the back. I was not aware of them until they had reached the basement." Alfred looks mortally embarrassed. "I contacted Michael and tried to scare them away. They would not scare and went directly for the treasure room. I had to use lethal force on both, sirs and madam.
"I am very sorry we could not keep one alive for you."

Michael says, "We searched them thoroughly. We found no personal identification at all. They were curiously clean of anything except weapons. They didn't even have tatoos or scars of any kind. We fed them to the "disposal unit" and we haven't told the Mayor. We wanted to talk to you first."

Impressive. A coordinated attack and they knew what they were going for, or at least the room. Sanbalet. Rat bastard.

Lycos
11th April 2009, 11:49 PM
Yeah, I have to agree. This was a pretty well organized attack, and I'm sure that it was Sanbalet. He would've known where to tell people to go. Baladir congratulates everyone on their defense, especially the women.

Well, we definitely can't be running out to any new adventures until we wrap this up.

Some things I want to do...

Look over the horses that those guys rode in with, if they left their horses. It sounds like they would not have time to get back on them. Also, the guys that came in the back probably had horses as well. We should look for some papers or personal items that they might have left behind.

Trask and I need to go back to see the priest in town looking over the Malacon stuff. Specifically, I want to ask him what he thought about the light show. Is there some connection between the dragon's life and Malacon? Did we hurt him and possibly make a step in actually killing Malacon? Show him our new upgraded symbols and explain that they sucked in the magic some how.

Fandango, maybe we can find out something about these guys from the descriptions we can get from the ladies and Michael and Alfred. They might have spent some time in town. We could use a ranger. :-/

I'm on it. I'll hit town, wander around a bit, spread some cash around and try to find out anything about new people who amy have come and gone lately. Streetwise +11

Also, very nicely done ladies and good job guys.

I'll get Alfred and Micheal together, look at them very seriously and let them know that they never have to apologize to me for killing someone who is breaking into our house and feeding them to our pet slime monster. For that matter, that really don't have to aplogize to me for killing someone, as long as it isn't someone I like.

Also 2- We need someone to figure out our mouse for us.
Also 3- We should throw a party of some sort of our brave defenders. At the very least I should get them some presents while I'm in town. hell...maybe new weapons for our all-girl security squad.
Also 4- I was thinking of asking the mayor if there was any small projects that the town needed done but lacked the capital for. We're really flush at the moment. I'm not doing it out of a desire to do good, but rather the more the townspeople love us the better off we are from a security/information.everything standpoint. I'm thinking of hearts and minds here.
Also 5- We should gate, bar and trap that water entrance.
Also 6- fandango would like to name the slme monsters Lavinda, after a girl he once knew who also was made of mucus and who had a habit of devouring every man in her path.

"I had a chance to work on that during the walk back to the caves, and checked it again once we got back here."

"Back in the dragon's cave, I was holding it, and someone, maybe jokingly trying to scare another, I don't know. But, someone said the word 'Boo'. You've seen how lifelike this stone is, but at that point I could feel it quiver, as if it wanted to be alive."

"I let my thoughts wander on what this could mean. On the way back to the lizard caves some words appeared in my mind, spoken by someone else, but as if placed there by The Raven herself. I took out the stone, which is upstairs with my other stuff at the moment. I took it out and said, "Go for the eyes, Boo!" The stone did come to life, and the little thing scurried quicker than most critters, headed straight for a small fox not too far away. He attacked its eyes for a bit and then came back to me, returning to stone once in my hand again. I've been a bit unsure of what I saw, but I just took it out in the fields nearby and tried it again, same thing."

You find out several seedy looking guys have been hanging around the last few days and asking questions about you guys. You hear this alot.

Another, more disturbing thing you pick up. Some guy or girl (the description varies with each of the 5 people who tell you this) has been asking about you and kind of bad mouthing you.. but not directly.. exactly. Comments you've heard include:
"Wow? You mean they cleared THOUSANDS and only gave those guys that almost died to save them a few gold?"
"Seems kind of dangerous having them around."
"So they cavort with goblins and lizards?"
"They seem awfully knowledgeable about those smugglers...."
"They have a DEVIL with them?"
"They really seem to have the mayor suckered... or is it more than that?..."

I'll get Alfred and Micheal together, look at them very seriously and let them know that they never have to apologize to me for killing someone who is breaking into our house and feeding them to our pet slime monster. Also 3- We should throw a party of some sort of our brave defenders. At the very least I should get them some presents while I'm in town. hell...maybe new weapons for our all-girl security squad. You could probably get some from the ranger in town - the one with the shop that sells adventuring goods.

The mayor knows of a couple of widows that have house damage they can't afford to repair - leaking roofs and such. The town also used to have a small communal sail boat that people used to teach their kids the basics of sailing. That sank a few years back and they haven't been able to replace it.
With 100g in materials and the help of your builders, you could fix up 8-10 widow houses in a couple of weeks. And a small sail boat could be had for 250g.

Also 5- We should gate, bar and trap that water entrance. 200g to bar and gate (stong). Trap cost depends on how fancy.

Also 6- fandango would like to name the slme monsters Lavinda, after a girl he once knew who also was made of mucus and who had a habit of devouring every man in her path. LOL part 2

Let me know what, if anything, you decide to do about donating to the town.

Do we have any spare weapons? How about we give them each credit at Scorpio's for a non-magical weapon or armor? Michael is probably ok without anything.

I say go on the roof materials and new sailboat. I will deduct from the loot.

Also Sagar, if we want Scorpio to look for a magic item to purchase, what is the markup from the "official" price?

I'm not sure what you mean? What is this in response to?

What happens when Trask and I talk to the priest?

Lycos
12th April 2009, 10:44 PM
Also, I will talk to Scorpio to see how difficult it would be to get a higher level mage to put in some protections to our vault area. We need to keep this low key, and trust in the person who does it is very vital.

Sagar
13th April 2009, 07:48 AM
Scorpio tells you that he doesn't know any mages that would do such work. If you could find one, it would probably costs more than 10,000 gp.

You and Trask go to town and talk to the Old Man. He is marginally interested in your story until you get to the part about the holy symbols and the dragon glowing. He asks to see Baladir's symbol and you hand it to him. He studies it for some time then looks at you with a thoughtful expression.

He then checks Trask's symbol.

"These, I think, are more than what they appear. They seem to be growing in power as you do. I expect they were significantly drained through the centuries of guarding Malacon. They have absorbed magic from the dragon to replace that which they lost." He pauses and then adds, quietly, "I wonder how powerful they will become.."

Looking up abruptly, he snaps, "You MUST get that book as soon as possible!"

Sagar
13th April 2009, 07:51 AM
I'm not sure what you mean? What is this in response to?

The idea of giving all the women 1pp.

It's kind of like having a neighbor that fixed your broken car and covered your roof after a hurricane.
You come home one night and find thieves just about to enter their house.
You chase off the neighbors and, in gratitude, the neighbor gives you $10,000.

It just seems almost insulting, somehow.

Know what I mean?

Asharad
13th April 2009, 08:52 AM
It was trasks idea, not lycos's, hence the confusion.

yeah, let's get them credit at scorpio's for one new weapon each. Like Trask said we'll fix the roof and buy the boat. We'll also build the gate at the water entrance. We can bar and lock it from the inside I guess.

Shiz
13th April 2009, 09:02 AM
Actually, we should do the whole portcullis thing. Have the release mechanism somewhere in the caverns. It will cost more, but then no one will be able to pick the lock.

Lycos had the part in the To Do thread this whole time:

If you wish learn more of this Malacon, you must go to Bracken and somehow obtain MacNulty's "Compendium of Sacred Enemies" from the main temple. I know of no other way our search can continue."

The book is in Bracken. We are in Saltmarsh. Let us commission the work that needs to be done and head to Bracken. Saltmarsh should be quiet for awhile now, anyway, with the goblins mollified and Sanbalet's latest escapade a failure.

We could also use the opportunity to meet with the Baron - report in, as they say - and ask about Defiance, too.

Sagar
13th April 2009, 10:46 AM
The Baron is in Diert. That is several days east.

Bracken is a day and a half to the west. It's the town you were in when you won the tournament.

After talking to the Old Man, you stop back by the Mayor's as requested. There, you find not only the mayor, but the Captain of the Baron's guard.

The Captain says, "Excellent! I needed to talk to all of you. First, Mayor, I am to tell you that the Baron agrees to pay 1000g for the dispersal of the lizardmen and resolution of the goblin encounters. This, as I understand it, has been accomplished already." He nods in your direction. "The funds will be made available immediately."

"Second," he turns to the party, "We have been informed by a messenger from Defiance that there has been a delay on their end. They are working on the issue and will let us know when they will be able to accept the 'shipment'."

You recall that the 'shipment' was supposed to be weapons which Defiance was going to pay for with gems.

"At this point, the Baron is prepared to wait. Please be available in 2 weeks. If he has not heard any response by then, he will want you to investigate the situation."

He pauses, then smiles at the party. "And I wish to thank you. You have done very well here. Far better than any of us could have expected. And given the way things are going back east, we REALLY don't need trouble here.

"Now, is there anything I can do for you while I'm here? And do you have any messages for me to take back to the Baron?"

Lycos
13th April 2009, 01:51 PM
Yes, sir. We do require the assistance of the Baron. Shall we talk in private. This is rather a touchy subject. *pause to wait to see what the Mayor wishes to do as far as privacy*

We fill the mayor in on the situation with the book. And we understand from the old man that there is some politics involved that will make this harder than just asking to borrow the book. Does the baron know whether or not he has enough influence to get the book? And if he can not, he should be notified of what we intend to "borrow". If he can't get the book directly, perhaps, he could arrange it that security in the city is weaker around the temple when Fandango goes to procure the book? And a slow response to the temple's call for help if Fandango is discovered by accident.

Also, we could use some help in finding Sanbalet. He has recently attacked our home in an attempt to get to our protected areas. Any information available would be appreciated.

13th April 2009, 03:33 PM
Scorpio is a ranger and a pretty good one.

You did not find any horses anywhere.

The Mayor tactfully excuses himself to go find some beverages for everyone.

The Captain looks at you thoughtfully for a few moments. "The Baron's authority in Bracken is very limited. The Lord of Bracken, while technically a vassal, likes to thwart the Baron whenever he can do so without being openly treasonous or derelict in his duties. If the Baron asked, that book would be conveniently "lost".

"Tread carefully. The head of the Temple of Pelor in Bracken is the Lord's in-law. There is no doubt where his loyalty lies."

Trask will talk to the ladies to determine from which direction the ruffians came and then backtrack roughly a mile along that route, looking for tracks, Perc +16. I will make a few rolls.

My understanding of Tracking is that I re-roll when the ground cover or the direction changes to see if I make the transition. My passive perception is probably high enough to follow undisguised tracks as long as I can figure out where they are vs regular foot traffic.

For whatever reason, I'm getting a rather anachronistic view of this world. Kinda interesting.

Lycos
14th April 2009, 10:17 AM
Baladir got a new vision:

The party is riding into shadow. Light seems to pour from the party, pushing the shadows back and illuminating that which tries to hide in it.

First, the party's light reveals a small figure.. a man.. dressed in a pirates had and surrounded by dog-like humanoids. He scowls at the party and growls..then goes back to chewing on a dry bone.

On the edge of the shadows, you catch glimpses of a very tall, towering figure. When you can see it clearly, it seems to be a puppetmaster. He is controlling strings that disappear into the shadows. At his feet, clearly in the light, lie several broken puppets.

Finally, back in the shadows, you glimpse a 3rd figure - smokey and indistinct. He seems to resent the light and is actively pushing back against it - exerting force to extinguish the light or at least shrink it. The party is almost completely unaware of his presence.

The first one seems to be Sanabelt. The second is definitely Malacon. This third guy is rather new to us. Seems that we may have another foe. Or we have always had this person as an enemy and never knew we had.

The question that brought this vision on was to give us guidance in our endeavors to find the enemy (anyone meaning us harm or plotting against us) who Fandango is going into Bracken to discover. Is there an immediate danger to him? Will his efforts be fruitful? Can it give us an idea of where to focus our efforts?

Shiz

The gnolls are in the swamp somewhere, I think. I will ask the ladies who are learning how to fight if there is any local awareness of a gnoll tribe.

Sagar
14th April 2009, 05:19 PM
Fandango goes back into Saltmarsh but can't find any more information on the rumor mongers. They and the questionable people that have been around since shortly before the party all seem to be gone now.

None of the ladies know anything about gnolls. They don't remember seeing any or remember anyone else claiming too.

Zyzzyx
14th April 2009, 05:24 PM
Lets see what Solak knows about gnolls in the area. Figuring nature, and maybe history; since he's been a wanderer all over the place, might have heard of some around.

Solak seems a bit out of sorts, being back at the house, especially when in town. But, he does chime in with what he knows of gnolls.

Sagar
14th April 2009, 05:45 PM
Gnolls in general or gnolls in this area, Solak?

Zyzzyx
14th April 2009, 06:19 PM
Hmmm... I'd have to say that we're probably more interested in gnolls in the general area. If/when we get involved with gnolls I'll go with a more general knowledge check then.

Shiz
14th April 2009, 06:23 PM
I got a clarification that "gnawing on a dry bone" means biding one's time. Therefore, Sanbalet isn't actively pursuing revenge right now. Gnolls are a dead end.

We need to get that book from the Bracken temple. Maybe if we all go, we can create a distraction for Fandango, maybe a Baladir can arrange a mini-festival in front of the Pelor temple...

Do we still have our horses? Solak needs one, I think.

Sagar
15th April 2009, 10:06 AM
Solak has a horse, iirc. You will need a pack animal to carry the silk bolts.

You can get one in town for 30g.

You take a few days to recover from the lizard lair adventure and spend a few nights in the tavern telling your tale to eager patrons. Brunhilde works more with the women, teaching them new techniques to learn and giving them new exercises to improve their muscle tone. Fandango prowls around town looking for more information on the ruffians and rumormongers. Michael and his continue to make progress on the house.

At one point, Trask goes into the house and catches Alfred playing hide and seek with Michael's son. Alfred seems mortally embarrased to be caught at such an activity.

The party also receives their 2500g deposit back and the reward for resolving the Lizard crisis.

The day after returning home, Solak sees the goblin leader while out wandering. The goblin steps out into the light, salutes Solak, and vanishes back into the brush.

On the 4th day, the party sets out for Bracken. The weather is pleasant enough but it's easy to tell that warm weather is coming soon. The first half day passes uneventfully. You pass a few travelers - merchants, farmers, and others on the road. Some heading east, some west. At about noon, you pause to take a lunch break and to water the animals. In the clearing where you stop, you see a group of travelers who have also paused to eat.

They hail you and ask where you are heading and ask about the road to the east.

Anyway, if you're going to Bracken, you guys will need to change." He points at Brun and Baladir. "Plate mail is illegal in the city except by permit. Magic, too, for that matter. But at least you can probably get a magic permit. They don't let outsiders get plate permits."

You stopped for lunch.

The other group finishes their meal and mounts up to head out. They wish you good travels and, with a wave, depart. You do likewise.

You pass a few more travelers during the afternoon. Most are mounted or pulling carts. A few, like the guy far ahead of you, are trudging along on foot. He disappears around a turn in the road.
As you near the turn, you hear a voice ahead cry out in alarm and pain. Speeding up a bit, you turn the corner to see him being dragged towards nearby trees by what are obviously bandits.
You see no other travelers on the road ahead of you. It seems the bandits took advantage of a lull in traffic to strike a helpless target.

Sagar
16th April 2009, 02:37 PM
You see two bandits.. both human. They are roughly dressed but well armed. They toss the traveler into the edge of the woods and turn to meet your charge with weapons drawn. Looking at you barreling down on them, they look uncertain.

They do not have time to flee, however, before you arrive and leap from your horses.

I'll need to finish the map before I go farther. I had to go to a meeting over lunch and didn't get to finish it.

Solak does not see anything in the woods but leaves and trees.

This section of the road is fairly straight and clean. The sides are clear back to the treeline which starts about 20' off the road on either side.

The bandit looks taken aback. He actually shrinks back a bit.

Then he seems to shake it off and laughs.

"Perhaps I should offer you the same." He waves his hand and, from the trees on either side of the road, archers appear. Another group comes from the woods to cut off your retreat. One of them spooks the horses and they run off.

"You've got some goods there and good gear too, if I don't miss my guess. And I don't. Throw down YOUR weapons and maybe this won't be a terminal encounter for you."

He gestures for you to toss your weapons aside.

You can tell that these men handle their weapons FAR better than anyone else you ever encountered.

Bowman 3 and 4 shoot at Baladir (26, 23 vs AC 21). Both of their arrow strike the paladin cleanly (also doing 12 damage, total)

Archer 1 shoots at Trask (31 vs AC 19) with a crossbow and hits him solidly as well (5 damage).

Minor: Trask retrieves his bow (and morningstar if possible)
Std: Shield of Faith, all allies w/in 5 gain +2 AC bonus for the encounter
Move: Follow Brun to J11.

AP: Conjures a hammer on top of the Mage. Elven Accuracy on a miss.

Spiritual Weapon (Implement), R10, +8 vs AC, d10+6, Effect: You conjure a weapon that appears in the target's square and attacks. Your allies gain combat advantage against the target. You can move the weapon up to 10 squares to another enemy's square as a move action. The weapon lasts until the end of your next turn. Sustain Minor: When you sustain the power, repeat the attack. Your allies continue to gain combat advantage against the weapon's target.

Bah. 16 vs mage's AC. Not a good start. If the hammer misses, it is still there as I read it. The CA to allies does not rely on a hit.

Centered on H4, spanning F2-J6, sustaining the cloud as well.

Quickly recovering from that he moves to I8 and (Action Point) continues to cover the rear, turning towards Bandits 1 and 3 and sending a frosty line of ice their way.

- Icy Rays; +7 vs Ref, target one or two creatures, one attack per target, 1d10+5 cold dmg and immobilized until end of next turn

Using the momentum of her charge, she swing her axe at Bowman 4. Her blow (19+14 vs AC) cuts right through his hastily raised bow and crushes his chest (16 damage). He drops, dead.
Then Brun turns to mock the axeman and weaves her own axe around in a deadly rain of steel.

Solak summons fel energies and creates a cloud of noxious fumes. These, he settles around the northern archers. The archer and a bowman are startled and draw the fumes deeply into their lungs (25, 24 vs Fort). Both cough and stagger (14 damage, each). The bowman clutches his throat, then his chest, and then collapses. Bowman 2 manages to hold his breath and survives... this round.

Not finished, Solak moves northeast through the party and then fires icy rays at the bandits attacking from the rear. The rays (18, 20 vs Ref) strike the two bandits (10 damage) directly over their hearts, killing them instantly.

Trask (minor) retrieves his bow (morningstar is another minor action) and casts Shield of Faith (+2 AC to all allies). He then moves closer to Brunhilde and summons a spiritual weapon to attack the mage. (16 vs AC misses, mage gives CA as he dodges the weapon)

The mage points his wand at Brunhilde and lightning arcs from it's tip. The lightning (18 vs Ref 17) glances off Brun (7 damage) and bounces towards Trask. It shoots through Trasks body (natural 20, 12 damage) and glances off Baladir (20 vs Ref 15, 7 damage).

Amaril moves bravely behind Fandango, turns, and fires a spell at Bandit 2.
Bandit 2, caught by surprise, takes the spell full bore right up the nostrils (16 damage).
Sparks come out his ears as he falls over dead.

End of round

Round 2:

Bowmen
Archer 1 (14 damage, in cloud)
Archer 2
Brunhilde (7 damage, 7 temp HP)
Solak (7 temp HP)
Trask (12 damage, 7 temp HP)
Mage (44 damage, bloodied, marked - Baladir, 5 ongoing fire, CA Given)
Fandango (20 damage, 7 temp HP, dazed)
Baladir (33 damage, bloodied)
Axeman 1
Axeman 2 (3 damage)
Amaril (12 damage, 7 temp HP)

Bowman 3, at the start of his turn, gets clipped by Brunhilde's axe. Unfortunately for him, he was clipped somewhere between his chin and his solar plexus. Gurgling, he collapses to the ground.

Bowman 2 moves to leave the cloud, stubs his toe and, inhaling deeply to yell OUCH, suddenly turns an interesting shade of lavender before falling to the ground and expiring.

Archer 1 chokes on the fumes (11 damage) as he moves out of the cloud. Setting himself on the road, he raises his crossbow and aims for Trask (30 vs AC 19+2). The bolt slams home, rocking the cleric (15 damage).

Archer 2 takes aim at Trask as well (31-2 vs AC 19+2). This bolt slams hard into Trask's helmet, leaving him dazed (19 damage). Trask is not only dazed, he is bloodied and reeling.

Brun growls at Trask to get into the woods, though she knows that is what he was trying to do. :D

She shifts E to L12 (move).
She will attempt to use Covering Attack (+11 vs AC, 2d12+7 dam, adjacent target can shift 2) on the bandit mage, which should allow Baladir to shift 2 squares (maybe to K12 or something). She wishes she could use it on Trask, but he's not adjacent to anything.
She'll burn an AP (free)
She'll Cleave (+11 vs AC, 1d12+7 dam, 5 to adjacent target on hit) the mage/axeman.

Trask, spitting up blood, pulls the bolts from his body while he whispers a Healing Word (surge+2d6+6) on himself, tapping the special power of his Symbol.

Archer 2 takes 9 damage and -2 ATK. Trask heals himself for 20 (11+3+6), to 26hps (12+7-34+20). Temp hps saved me from going down.

Brunhilde tries to shift east but the bushes are difficult terrain and she can't see a safe wayt to do it.

Brunhilde tries a covering attack for Baladir but, in her haste, tries to step forward with her left.. then can't remember if she was SUPPOSED to start with her right, tries to shuffle her weight balance, then just gives it up as a bad cause (natural 1 - attack never occurred).

Frustrated, she swings at Axeman 2 and just nicks him in passing (9 damage).

Solak casts an illusory ambush on Archer 2 (19 vs Will). The archer begins to squirm as if being attacked by unseen foes (9 damage, -2 to hit EONT). He then (minor) sustains and moves the poison cloud.

Trask uses a healing word on himself (+20 hp). He also shakes off the daze that was dulling his motions.

The mage takes 5 fire damage as he claps his hands together and a thunder burst (blast 1) on Trask (16 vs Fort16) and also encompasses Baladir (18 vs Fort 16) and Brunhilde (16 vs Fort 21). Trask and Baladir take 14 damage are are dazed (save ends). The mage smothers the fire in his robes (ST 12).

Baladir pauses to catch his second wind (+2 defenses, 14 healing). Being dazed, he can't do any other action and he doesn't manage to shake off that daze (ST 7)

Fandango thinks about rushing forward, but changes his mind and whips a dagger at the mage. The dagger (18 vs DC +2 partial cover) glances off an axeman's weapon on the way by and just misses the mage.

Trask, being dazed, could not sustain his attack and he weapon vanished so the mage doesn't give CA anymore.

Axeman 1 tries to finish off Baladir and (27+2 vs AC 21+4) hits him solidly in the back (9 damage). Baladir sways but somehow remains standing.

Axeman 2, thinking Baladir is a goner already, shifts east to take out Trask. He swings at the dazed cleric (20+2 vs AC 19+2), but only gets a glancing blow (7 damage). Trask is reeling. Axeman takes 10 damage from Brun's RoS.

Amaril moves, vanishing into shadows. You hear a curse on Archer 1 and then another curse - this time at something called &*&*^ dice! as Amaril's attack (15 vs Ref) misses.

Brun shifts to L11.

Solak moves the cloud south to engulf Axeman 1. From within the cloud, you hear coughing and wretching (15 damage). Solak then casts and illusionary ambush on Axeman 2. The attack hits and cuts seem to spring up on the axeman's body (9 damage, -2 to hit until EOST).

Trask lies quietly on the ground.

The mage takes 10 damage from the rain of steel as he orders the axemen to attack "The tiefling mage" and then casts magic missle at Solak. His attack (14 vs Ref) misses. He shifts southwest to get away from Brunhilde.

Baladir hears a voice whisper, "It is not your time, my servant. Return to the fight." and healing energy surges through him (+10 health). Dazed, he shifts west as he stands, then manages to shake off the cobwebs and is ready for battle.

Fandango tries to toss a dagger at the mage but misses badly. Shocked as his uncharacteristic suckiness, he snaps out of his daze.

Axeman 1 coughs more (10 damage), and appears out of the cloud near Solak. His axe attack (24 vs AC) hits Solak hard (14 damage, 7 of it from temp HP).

Axeman 2 takes 8 damage from the rain of steel as he shifts NW away from Brun and towards the mage.
Seeing Baladir standing, he swings (21-2 vs AC 21+2) but because of the party magics at work, misses.
Axeman 2 is bloodied.

I'll have to update the map over lunch, but this is what has happened so far...

Brunhilde shifts (to M11) and swings at the mage. Her main attack misses, but she bashes him in the head with the axe handle (5 damage) and he falls to the ground, unconcious.

Solak move (to H7) and casts Illusory Ambush at Axeman 1. The attack (15 vs will) hits and the axeman begins slapping at himself with his weapon (6 damage, -2 to hit).

Solak then grabs a gem from his pouch and tosses it at Archer 2. As the gem flies through the air, Solak yells" GO for the eyes, BOO!" With a SQUEEK SQUEEK, the hamster arcs through the air (20 vs Ref) and, landing on the archer's head, begins scratching at the foe's forehead. Screaming, the archer slaps at the hamster and tries to wipe the blood out his eyes (blind until EONT - gives CA and all have total concealment).

Trask lies quietly in the grass (ST vs Death - 17. Still stable) you didn't give a death save for this round. You go before Baladir.

The mage lies quietly in the grass as well.

Fandango moves to C9 and launches a dazing strike at archer 1. His dagger hilt (28 vs AC) smacks into the archers head (6 damage), dazing it until EONT. Fandango, emboldened, quickly launches a sly flourish attack but drops his dagger during the flourish part and looks somewhat less than sly.

Baladir grabs and quaffs a healing potion (10 healing) and launches an attack at Axeman 2. His attack is true (29 vs AC) and devastating (20 damage). He yells "DON'T MESS WITH PELOR, BEYOTCH!!" as he sends a healing surge to Trask.

Trask awakens (11 health) and, because the DM is feeling nice, stands and shakes the cobwebs from his head (ST 11). Don't even ask to attack or you can lay back down until your next turn.

Axeman 1 is the one blinded (I accidentally applied that to Archer 1). He staggers around a bit and winds up next to Solak.

Axeman 2 looks at the mage, then at Trask - confused.
Finally, it raises it axe high and attacks Baladir. The swing (22-2 vs AC 21+2) misses, again due to the party magics.

Seriously? Very sad. Oh well. 5 damage.

Trask sends a Healing Word at Baladir (20+1d6), shifts to I12 and tries to kill Archer 1 with

Cascade of Light (Implement), +8 vs WIL, R10, 3d8+6, hit: vulnerability 5 vs all my attacks (save ends), miss: 1/2 dmg only

Now that is more like it, bitches!

Sagar

Archer 1 shifts towards the woods and shoots at Fandango with his crossbow (16-2 vs AC 18) and misses.

Archer 2 looks between Trask and Solak.. and chooses Solak at the greater danger. His bullseye bolt recharged, he fires (7+14 vs AC 19+2). The bolt slams into... but it misses, somehow. Solak deflects the strike and GRINS.

Incredulous, the archer looks at Solak.. at Baladir.. at Trask.. at the mage.. (4 vs Will) and flees into the woods.

Need Brunhilde attack.
Need new Solak action (dazed) and ST.

Immediate INterrupt for Solak: +2 to AC. The archer misses.

Staff of Defense; Immediate interrupt, +2AC (Con mod) after damage taken, recalculate ATK

Proceed as directed!

Sagar, you might as well have this power on automatic any time Solak takes a big hit like this and the +2 would save him. It is an encounter power.

Archer 2 looks between Trask and Solak.. and chooses Solak at the greater danger. His bullseye bolt recharged, he fires (7+14 vs AC 19+2). The bolt slams into Solak (19 damage) leaving him dazed, bloodied and reeling, but still upright.
Solak's first action will be to skillfully whip his staff around and deflect the incoming bolt.

- Staff of Defense; Immediate interrupt, +2AC (Con mod) after damage taken, recalculate ATK

*looking over possible change of main action, gimme a sec*

I'm good with Solak's R5 attack that Shiz posted for me.

No prob... yeah, back 'amongst the living' now. Nice to see that you remembered the Staff action, and/or Shield. ;)

I'v decided not to head in to work for the afternoon, even though I'm feeling just fine, but I am going to be AFK for ~1 hour though, headed out for late lunch and a couple errands.

I don't assume anything is automatic. You need to specifically tell me if you want to use something like the staff. I have no problem editing the results, if necessary :)

Brunhilde moves to flank Axeman 1. There, she swings a reaping strike, but only just taps the guy on the backswing (5 damage).

Solak shifts back a step and then uses another illusion to attack Axeman 1. The attack (9+7+2+1) easily hits and the axeman hurts himself trying to fend off the illusions (10 damage). At the end of the turn, the foe clears the blood from his eyes and is no longer blind.

Trask, fresh from his dirt nap, gives a healing word to Baladir (10+6+4 or 20 total healing). I couldn't figure hout how you got 20+d6. Trask, feeling cocky, now, casts Cascade of Light on archer 1 blasting him in holy fire (23 damage) leaving him bloody.

The mage begins to snore.

Fandango attacks archer 1 with a sly flourish and (21 vs AC) hits solidly (22 damage). The archer drops like a stone.

Baladir issues a divine challenge to Axeman 2. He then strikes the barbarian (29 vs AC) solidly (14 damage).

Axeman 1 takes damage from a rain of steel (2) and attacks Brunhilde. His swing (12 vs AC) misses badly. He then shifts towards Solak.

Axeman 2 swings at Baladir (18 vs AC) but also misses. Both axemen looked too enraged to be unnerved by the change in fortunes.

Amaril...

Amaril seriously considers attempting to stop the fleeing Archer but instead decides to try to help his fellow finger waggler. So he moves to I5 triggering Shadow Walk (concealment), curses Axeman 1, and casts Otherwind Strike teleporting to F11.

About frickin' time!

OS: 25 vs FORT
dmg: 15 and Axeman 1 is immobilized until end of my next turn.

Amaril glances at the fleeing archer then turns his attention back to Axeman 1. He moves, vanishes, nukes and moves again.

The Axeman can't follow it all. He just takes it in the shorts (hit, 15 damage, immobilized. He is also reeling).

End of Round 5:

Round 6:

Archer 1 (pushing daisies)
Archer 2 (gone)
Brunhilde (7 damage, 7 temp HP)
Solak (21 damage, bloodied)
Trask (11 hp)
Mage (Unconscious)
Fandango (20 damage, 7 temp HP)
Baladir (3 damage)
Axeman 1 (74 damage, bloodied, immobilized)
Axeman 2 (55 damage, bloodied, challenged by Baladir)
Amaril (12 damage, 1 temp HP, concealed, feeling a bit better)

Solak shifts away to F7. Thinking about putting some flame to Axeman1 you see a subtle glow start to form... but then he changes his mind, decides to stick with what's been working quite well and pulls up yet another illusion to toy with the guy's mind, but only enough to knock him out. (going for unconscious, not a killshot)

- Illusory Ambush; +7 vs Will, 1d6+5 psychic dmg, target takes -2 to attack rolls until end of my next turn, - Bloodhunt: +1 ATK vs bloodied foes

Round 5:

Divine Challenge Axeman2 if he didn't get challenged before and he is still alive. If he is not, I will go for Axeman 1.

Divine Challenge.

Holy Strike on the closest Axeman.

Holy Strike! (+10 to hit vs AC, 1d10 + 6 Damage for strength and sword) + 2 more in damage if marked.

Round 6:

Rinse and Repeat on Axeman 2.

Trask will attack the nearest living enemy with Thundertusk Boar Strike, +8 vs AC, Two attacks, 1d10+4, hit: push target 1 square or if both hit same target push 5 squares.

First shot missed (even if CA probably) so I didn't roll damage. I did not adjust for possible CA.

Sagar

Brunhilde swings and .. it's a hit! Axeman1's head is lopped clean off of his shoulders and rolls across the infield.

Solak can't decide whether to attack the head or the torso and ends up missing both.

Trask tries a double strike against Axeman2. Both attacks hit (vs AC 16) and the damage (21 total) pushes the barbarian into an early grave.

Aside from the unconscious mage, the battlefield is now devoid of active foes.

Each of you get 325 xp for this encounter.

But, thinking about it, they seemed to deliberately target the healers first and then the mages. It's like they knew who you were and who to cull first....

Asharad

OKay, I'll strip the mage completelynaked and tie him to a tree.

(Point of information to me: what does a mage need in order to cast a spell? Is it simply a word thing or is it words and using his hands?)

I'm assuming he can't voodoo me from a naked, groggy, tied up position. We should go through all of his stuff very carefully. Trask is our most perceptive, I believe.

We should search everybody else too, I guess.

Once that is done we can wake him up. I'd like to suggest that I question him, as my skills for that sort of thing are probably the best, but lots of you guys have better insight than me, so maybe you can watch and let me know when he is lying?

Sound good?

Shiz
22nd April 2009, 09:26 AM
Trask will search all the available corpses with Solak's help, looking for magic items. Amaril, why don't you examine our mage friend's equipment? Baladir, try and revive the mage enough for Fandango to talk to him.

"We acted like cocky heroes and it almost killed us. I know I learned a thing or two..."

DinbinFanfoom
22nd April 2009, 09:30 AM
Sounds good. You might want one other on hand with good intimidate to back you up and keep him from doing anything "magey". I suggest Amaril (+11 intimidate). If you want Brun for "stand behind the tree somewhere and knock him on the head if he gets unruly", she's OK with that too. Otherwise, Brun will help look through the corpses.

Asharad

(and Brun's, of course)

Just...don't be squeamish.

I may have to cut on this guy a bit so if somebody's god is going to be upset about us poking at the guy who arranged an attack on our home and tried to kill our friends and their families...maybe wait by the road?

Oh, and I'll surge twice to get me to full.

I always welcome Amaril's assistance.

And he'll use a surge to get to full health.

The surge HP value comes from the recipient.

Greebo

I will assume you all surge to full (or near enough) before searching and dealing with the mage.

The mage is lying mostly face down. When you touch him, he regains conciousness almost instantly. He spins over, but (19 vs Fort) is quickly pinned by Fandango. One of the mages arms is trapped behind his back. The mage winces at the pain, then glares at Fandango.

Trask and Solak go searching through the bodies.

Between them, you find 74g 22s in coins in pouches and pockets.
One of the bowman has a magic shortbow.
And the mages robes are magical.

Other than that, there is a suspicious lack of any kind of personal identifiers (including jewelry or personal effects.)

Asharad
22nd April 2009, 10:31 AM
Alrighty! I'm going to assume he's nude and tied to the tree.

"First of all, allow me to compliment you on your ambush. This is not our first spring faire and yet we still walked right into it and offered you our women parts. So well done. We know you were the one stirring **** about us back at the village. I understand you are a professional and so I'm going to do you the professional curtosy of saving us some time.

Let's pretend that we've already done the thing where I ask you who you are working for and you snarl something about how I should go have sex with my mother and you don't know what I'm talking about and you'll never tell.

I'll take that as a given. You're, like I said, a professional mercenary and I, as something of a mercenary myself, appreciate that.

So, like I said, we'll assume the preliminaries are over and I'll jump right to the part where I start cutting stuff off of you until you tell me what I need to know."

And then I'll cut off the pointy finger on his right hand.

"Now, who are you working for and where can I find them?"
