View Full Version : D&D campaign Idea...

hope I'm doing this the right way...
the basis of this world is simple. I created this world from the deep dark recesses of my mind. it starts you as a level 1 character, but moves you rather quickly up in levels.
Description:
The world you are living in, is roughly the size of north and south america as if it were one solid land mass.
in the middle of the land is a vast stretch of forest that is so dense no one can get through it, though you can fly over it. in the middle of this forest very visible is a massive black tower, perfectly smooth, that even from the very northern part of the world you can still see.
a large ring of mountains borders the north part of the world where the dwarves and gnomes mainly reside, a vast forest to the west is where the elves are mainly hailing from, the wild lands to the east carry most of the halflings, and savage races.
History:
This world has known nothing but war since as long as anyone can remember. The north (the players) is fighting with the south with the forest and tower considered neutral areas, and all out blasphemy to consider the tower anything but holy ground.
Reglion:
The "normal" D&D panathnon is nonexistant, the world is held in balance by the 9 ancients. they are considered the "gods" of the world.
What is needed:
Rogue:
Fighter type:
Wizard:
Cleric:
ranger type:
Bard:
If anyone is interested please post here or send my a private message.

I've been declining to join in these PBP campaigns since my schedule isn't exactly in synch with everyone else and thus I'd be missing everything, or they'd all be waiting on me. However, I did want to point out that most everyone here uses 4e rather than your choice of 3.5, so there is likely to be some mutual lack of resources. I shouldn't even mention that I have nothing more recent than 2e. :*

I have only just very recently gotten back into D&D and am still trying to learn 4e. I only actively played 3.5 for a very brief period in 2001 or so, and don't remember much about it. Thus as much as I'd love to play in another game, I'm going to have to pass on a 3.5 version because learning 4e and 3.5 at the same time would just be too confusing. :(

As intrigued as I am in another campaign, 4e is about my speed, I think. See Greebo's post. :(

4E got us all back in. I have nothing after AD&D and before 4E.
Also, how can a forest be so dense it is impassable? I think that might be botanically impossible. Big trees either block sunlight from the ground plants or the ground plants take up root space for the big trees.
Wow, that came across as kind of dickish. I didn't mean it that way.

Well he didn't say it was a "magical" forest, now did he?
Ok, I tried...

I would love to try, but I really don't have the time. I've purposely stayed out of the newer campaigns for lack of time.

I have the bug so if anyone does start a new campaign, I want to play a fighter-type, tank or striker I don't care.

I would love to see a new world, but running 1 and playing in 2 is a bit more than I can handle, actually.
And I haven't the foggiest idea how 3.5e works. :(

You know, if we hadn't just started two groups in the last few weeks (and if any of us knew 3.5e rules) we'd probably be fighting over this opportunity.

Did she specify 3.5E anywhere? If so, I missed it.

3.5e was mentioned in the hello thread...

I'd play if it were 4e. Sorry! It's all I know. :P

don't know why people are favoring 4.0 from what I've read of it, 3.5 is less complicated...granted it is slightly over powered...
course I could always borrow the arcana evolved books....written by monte cook (please god someone recognize that name), and supposed to be more balanced.

I'm still on 2e! :( More or less...

Sarlon, we're (most of us) in our mid-30's to mid-40's around here, and most have been gaming geeks for extended lengths of time. We're likely to have at least passing familiarity with any number of folks from the game creation community. And yes, even a slow to learn idiot like me connects Mr. Cook's name with the original DMG.

I disagree with the assessment that 4e is more complicated than 3.5. At this point, I've played 4e for about as long as I played 3.5 when I tried it out a few years ago.
If anything, 4e has been designed to be a game easier for the new player to start playing.
Class operations have been standardized - every class has powers, and those powers can be at-will, encounter or daily powers, and each power may be a standard, minor, move, or free action.
Party member roles have been well defined, so when you pick your character you *know* your job is to manage the crowds of monsters, or to protect the group, or to keep them alive.
And healing too has been made more accessible. Every party member can be a part of the action now, not just some members have the fun while one or two others play the role of band-aid dispenser.
I'm *not* criticizing 3.5, mind you - but I suspect that if someone thinks 4e is "harder" than 3.5, that they haven't really looked very closely at 4e.

3.5e also has several years of supplements attached to it while 4E is just starting. Supplements make a game both broader and, potentially, more complicated.

TRUST ME, with a 6ft bookshelf FULL of 3-3.5e stuff it has actually come down to me taking a full day to make a level 1 character between sorting through all the classes, races, spell caster or not, then Spells if a caster, then feats. A level 5 takes about 2 days and a level 15 i had made took about of week of tweeking. Too much min maxing involved. Besides really in 3.5 if you didnt play a human you were underpowered unless you had an elc and even then it was questionable untill level 10 plus when most classes really took on their own.

yeah, it's been my limited experience that 4e is a lot less complicated than previous incarnations of the game.
I actually think they took the online MMO gameplay and adjusted it for tabletp play- which is ironic given that the original MMOs did the opposite.
4e feels a bit like WoW.

Given all of that, I would probably roll another 4e character if another campaign started here. I think I can handle one more. I find myself refreshing the threads in Brun's game way too much.

Don't you have another Stellar Realm game starting up here in a bit?
