Poor, Maz, the pincushion. I'm not sure we've had bad guys make rolls like that before. I thought "19 AC and +2? There's no way."
Shiz

Make for the East tunnels so the other guys have to com to us.
Greebo

Perfect opportunity to set up an ambush right here - duck in around Maz.
Moonshadow
27th April 2009, 11:03 AM
Just a clarification - when Greebs teleports and hides I can't see him either right?
Greebo
27th April 2009, 11:07 AM
It's concealment, not invisibility. I'm reading it as being enveloped by shadows...so you know where I am, I'm just harder to see.
Moonshadow
27th April 2009, 02:27 PM
Okay so I can keep excluding you from AE's without guilt. :D

Yes please. I may be infernal, but I prefer my steak rare - especially when *I* am the steak! ;)

He's a witch... BURN HIM!!!
Oh wait, she is too. Hmm...
Actually, been looking forward to Cilene's development. Looks like Moonie is going for more of a damage wizard, while with Solak I'm going more for control. Curious to watch how the other side lives. ;)

Question on first aid and the unconscious
EricStratton
28th April 2009, 02:19 PM
Healing the Dying (pg 295 PHB):
Regain Hit Points: When you are dying and receive
healing, you go to 0 hit points and then regain hit
points from the healing effect. If the healing effect
requires you to spend a healing surge but you have
none left, you are restored to 1 hit point.
First Aid (pg 185 PHB):
Use Second Wind: Make a DC 10 Heal check to
allow an adjacent character to use his or her second
wind (page 291) without the character having to
spend an action. The character doesn’t gain the
defense bonuses normally granted by second wind.
So I guess the question is "can an unconscious person use a second wind". I believe that the *spirit* of First Aid is for Maz to be healed (assuming the First Aid is successful). I'll wait until the WotC discussion is wrapped up to decide officially.
Quervo

I have no problem either way... I just dont want to break rules to save my self....
EricStratton
28th April 2009, 03:05 PM
Understood. I'd just like to get it right. I'm going to allow it. The WotC ppl agree and I think it jives w/ the spirit of the power. Now, if only Greebo hadn't flubbed it....
Greebo
29th April 2009, 09:33 AM
Another point in defense of first aid allowing unconscious people to use a surge.
The text says that first aid allows the target to use second wind without taking an action.
Usually second wind is an action.
Unconscious people are expressly forbidden from taking actions.
If second wind can be used without taking an action, an unconscious person can do it.
Greebo

Burst in and attempt to gain surprise?
Sagar
29th April 2009, 10:50 PM
We could open the door and I can drop in an AoE then move aside (if they are close to the door)
I would have to make sure I didn't nuke any townfolk, though.
Moonshadow

Simultaneous AE's. I'm in for a blast.
Saddly Din blew my wizard 'sploit or I'd just put the room to sleep.
;)
Greebo
30th April 2009, 06:02 AM
The old Kobold leader *might* be in any of these rooms. We should be careful about any kobolds until we know who they side with.
Sagar
30th April 2009, 07:48 AM
We hide, two on each side, and someone opens the door, says, "Uhm.. excuse me, I was looking for the bathroom," closes the door, and runs..
Shiz
30th April 2009, 09:01 AM
In game terms, someone should open the door and bellow at whatever is in there to come out and help with new supplies. Bluff check.
Greebo
30th April 2009, 09:12 AM
That would be me then...
... anyone got any ability to buff my defenses first?
Shiz
30th April 2009, 09:43 AM
I will be a pet at your side if that will help, some kind of fey wolf or panther.
Greebo
30th April 2009, 09:47 AM
Did I ever tell you, I have a mild phobia of dogs? I really don't like you in dog form.
Sorry.
I was going to play this to the max, and have Greebo *always* move away from you in combat in wolf form (stress situation, phobia amplified) but it would have been too crippling to the combat in a couple occasions...
Shiz
30th April 2009, 09:51 AM
I can do a bear, or a goat, or a giant badger! Rend's power is Primal so he is not limited to strict forms. He can blend them.
Remember that combat is fast and you are probably focusing on something other than my form.
Greebo

Yes, that was the point. Greebo's low level phobia about dogs was going to kick in because he wasn't focusing on keeping his fear under control. In combat, if he could see you as a wolf, he was instinctively going to *always* move away from you, without realizing he was doing it, as a reaction to the dog form.
But in this pbp format, it doesn't translate too well, so I've dropped the idea.
Around the table, however, you'ld see me moving the wrong way, say "what are you doing?" and I'd be like, "Huh? What? Oh sorry!" and adjust the move some, until you figured out the "dog thing".

Maz, instead of pulling him to C4, perhaps you could move to C5 and pull him to D5 between you and Rend. That puts him in position to be attacked by everyone according to their most effective abilities.
Greebo
1st May 2009, 01:27 PM
Don't think he can - Lure requires a pull, iirc, which means the mob has to move closer to Maz.
Q that move totally boned Noppy's action as well.
Shiz
1st May 2009, 01:36 PM
Rend's attack should go first. If it hits, then Jagged is adjacent and he can double crit. Then Greebo can move south. Maz can then Lure to C4 (which is closer) freeing Cilene to nuke.
If Rend misses, then Greebo should move. Maz can then Lure and Cilene can nuke. Jagged sits tight.
Remember, those two 20s will be used in this encounter. It will either be on the surprise round or the next round.
Greebo
1st May 2009, 01:38 PM
No, Maz has a higher initiative, and goes before Rend, and unless tahts the toughest goblin ever (fort > 20?) it'll get pulled.
So then I'm shifting for 2 rounds.
We had a shot w/ Jagged's rolls to kill this guy as he walked out the door.
noptov52
1st May 2009, 01:40 PM
Maz can delay his action till the end.
Greebo
1st May 2009, 01:44 PM
That would be the best all around option IMO, but my impression was that he doesn't intend to do that, based on the "rethink options".
Shiz
1st May 2009, 01:52 PM
If Maz pulls immediately, then Rend and Jagged cannot attack this round and Greebo is kind of stuck. It is not optimal, but also not serious since the Gimp is not likely to thwack Greebo after the melee beating he will shortly receive.
Quervo
1st May 2009, 02:19 PM
I will delay till end of round... it is not problem for me... I read everything till after i posted and then it was just now... busy morning

Let me know where to fall into the INI order and i wil update my post..
Greebo
1st May 2009, 02:58 PM
EDIT... Maz will deley till after Rend, if Rend Hits and pushes the gimp, he will delay till after Jagged
If Rend misses, Maz will Move to c5 and use an Action Point to use Lightning Lure to Drag the Gimp to D4
If Rend did hit, and it is still alive after Jagged mutilates the gimp I will use Aegis of Shielding on the gimp.
This is an initiative round. You get 1 action, and no use of action points.

gahhh mother puss bucket
Moonshadow
1st May 2009, 04:40 PM
Okay, I'm confused so I'm going to summarize what I think people have said - corrections welcomed!
Surprise round:
Initiative order
Cilene - 25
Maz - 19
Greebo - 18
Rend - 15
Jagged - 6
Sagar - dazed
Cilene - (holding)
Maz - Delay to after Rend a)Rend misses move to C5 and lightning lure, b)Rend hits use Aegis of Shielding
Greebo - Eldritch Blast for 13dmg
Rend - Chill Wind pushes target to D3, Dmg 19
Jagged - When target is in reach hack and slay
Sagar - Stands around
So based on that here's what I see happening:
Greebo - Eldritch Blast for 13dmg
Rend - Chill Wind pushes target to D3, Dmg 19
Maz - Delay to after Rend a)Rend misses move to C5 and lightning lure, b)Rend hits use Aegis of Shielding (betting on B)
Jagged - When target is in reach hack and slay (40dmg??)
Sagar - Stands around
Greebo
1st May 2009, 04:47 PM
If rend hits, Maz is delaying till after Jagged so:
Greebo - Eldritch Blast for 13dmg
Rend - Chill Wind pushes target to D3, Dmg 19
Maz - Delay to after Rend a)Rend misses move to C5 and lightning lure, b)Rend hits use Aegis of Shielding (betting on B) Maz delays till after Jagged
Jagged - When target is in reach hack and slay (40dmg??)
Maz pulls the bloody corpse of The Gimp over to him and then attacks to add insult to injury
Sagar - Stands around

Still - if the Kobold leader is insistent...
