I thought that went reasonably well. Technically the gobbies were supposed to round around the area clockwise if anyone tried to melee them. But it was so late when anyone did, it didn't matter.

I'm glad some ppl didn't know about the trap or had forgotten about it as it was a fairly prominent part of the PA/DnD podcast. For those that did remember it, thanks for keeping quiet.

When the PA/DnD guys ran that room, they walked right into the pit trying to get that first goblin. Then the DM had the sharpshooters firing crossbow bolts at the heroes from hiding. I thought about doing that but I'm not entirely sure how to handle how far line of sight goes. I mean, in order to be hidden the mobs have to have some sort of concealment. How do you handle concealment when you can just look down the hallway? So that confused me and decided to play it out w/o them hiding.

As for how you all did you spent waaaay too much time on the rats. :lowlol:

Rats are vermin. Rats must die!

I would think concealment vs LOS would depend on the light source. Something like a wizard's Light cantrip only lights up 4 squares, though I might see it as 4 squares bright, two more dim, then darkness. So, if the target is over 4 squares out, partial concealment to dim light? Over 6 squares out, they're in darkness, targetting the nicely lit up group of adventurers.

Now, if there's regular torches down the hall and the whole place is lit up... umm... dunno.

IIRC Concealment requires there be something available to conceal you. Warlock shadow step is its own concealment - magical shadows.

One can always make a Stealth check to gain "random" concealment

Don't have time to look at the books right now but I think to make a Stealth check to go into hiding you have to have some sort of cover/concealment.

No, apparently not, per the errata in PHB2 (p 223)

Becoming Hidden: You can make a Stealth check
against an enemy only if you have superior cover or
total concealment against the enemy or if you?re outside
the enemy?s line of sight. Outside combat, the
DM can allow you to make a Stealth check against
a distracted enemy, even if you don?t have superior
cover or total concealment and aren?t outside the
enemy?s line of sight. The distracted enemy might be
focused on something in a different direction, allowing
you to sneak up.

So even if Greebo the Warlock had stealth in any decent measure, shadow step would not give him the ability to subsequently hide.

That brings up a good point - maybe the guy was running the podcast adventure using the old rules thus it was allowed. /shrug

What is the illumination of the keep? Starting out as hidden in low light is permissible, IIRC.

Bright light. Torches line the walls. IIRC...book not handy.
