Hey Q, welcome back. Thursdays are our weekly get togethers. Otherwise I know Erudite plays rather frequently himself. I believe GW is his sole remaining MMO vice.

this and may D&DO once it goes free as well. With twins and limited time most of the time I cant see paying to play a game when i might have to just get up and walk away for an upset kiddo

You don't need EotN unless you plan on joining the Thursday night session. Besides, you're not allowed into the zones unless you're at least 15th level.
I'm on three to four nights a week for varying lengths of time. Other than item-swapping, though, I haven't used a character other than Destrid in...a very long time. I have a few lower level peoples, though.
You'll level much faster in Factions or Nightfall than you will in Prophecies, but there's something to be said for playing through the three campaigns in order. It seems like GravenStone mentioned somebody else was thinking of picking up the game a few months ago. Andrea, maybe? Don't remember.

While I loves me some original Prophicies content, this game is going to be far easier as a solo player and far more interesting overall if you start with Nightfall and learn how to use heroes from the start. Add in the fact that you'll collect most of the heroes through the Nightfall campaign and it's win-win. The other two campaigns will be much easier to tackle with heroes instead of henchmen.
That said, you'll still run into missions which you may need another player or two to get through (especially the timed ones, Nightfall was nig on that). When you do, don't hesitate to ask us. We can either dedicate a Thursday night session to it, or maybe all come on another night of the week to lend a hand. Erudite, GS and I have finished all 4 campaigns, and are basically just plugging away at endgame content to see what there is to see at this point.
