I'm not going to spill a lot of the beans at this point (I'd like to keep it a bit of a surprise), but if you wish, in your character backstory, indicate how they might find themselves making a long journey (not as a party).

Damelon's story is simple. He grew up poor and rural, to a farming family. He is uneducated and has no interest in becoming educated. Always a physical boy, he once saw a mercenary in the local town with a doublesword and was awed. He saved up some money and "borrowed" some more to make the month-long journey to a martial training school and we find our adventurer, now, on his way back home. He has no idea what he will do when he gets there.

Crashing was trained as a shaman since his youth. It's traditional for young shaman to leave their village and head out into the world before they decide if they want to take their place of leadership with their tribe.
So Crashing and his spirit alligator companion are on walkabout.

Erik's always had a way with people. Some tried to talk him into politics but he was drawn more to magic and adventure. Unfortunately for Erik and those around him he's not that smart and he made a poor student of the arcane arts. As such he doesn't quite have full control of his magical abilities.
Having blown the roof off of his parent's house one too many times, they kicked him out. So Erik struck out to seek adventure and riches hoping to prove to his family and friends that he's not just an idiot with a pretty face.

K.T. has always been an entertainer, ever since he was a little fella. Over the years he became fairly well known and has worked the full range of places; from the street corner to various pubs and even some time spent in the employ of a couple different barons. Through folks he's worked with he picked up the basics of the ability to add a magical sense woven through his songs, and even without his tunes.
But as he tends to do, he's burned too many bridges in this town. Not enough work anymore, especially for an older fella, too many young kids willing to do more for less. So, time to head out and find a place where he can get going again.

Togar was never the smartest boy from his village, but what he lacked in brains he made up for in brawn. That lack of intelligence coupled with an almost complete absence of common sense is how he found himself walking down the road looking for a place called Avalon. Ever since he was a child Togar always dreamt of becoming a sword master like the great Benedict like from the bard’s tales. What he didn’t know was that Benedict and Avalon were just stories for children. They were not real nor had they ever been. Last winter while working in the back fields of his father’s farm, Togar found a large sword, a full blade. There is no telling how long it had been buried in that field, but legends told that a great battle was once fought in these lands. Just like in the stories, where Benedict turned his plowshare into a sword. Well ok not really the same thing, but to Togar it was close enough. All through the heart of winter Togar practiced with his new found sword. Come that spring he left home…. This is his tale.

Sigurd's background is pretty simple.
My dad was killed before I was born. He fought this guy named Odin, and lost for some reason. *shrug* Now, I look for my own glory and all the cash I can grab while I'm at it. Give me blood and glory. It's a good day to die. :D
Sigurd just recently got the opportunity to go adventuring now that his younger siblings are at home helping his Mother to maintain the household. They have modest means, by no means is he rich, but the land and the family have been able to sustain themselves well on what their Father left them for inheritance. Sigurd having earned enough money to pay his Father's old friend, Broddi, to teach him the ways of the vikings. He was asked by Broddi to make this trip to look into prices of some food items at the destination of *an unknown location*. Knowing full well that enemies of his family could be found almost anywhere, he brought all of his normal adventure gear with him. Perhaps, this little trip will be more than just a shopping trip to fill the pantry. Sigurd thinks to himself, "I have a feeling."
