The hallway has a 4 way intersection - do you want to enter the intersection?

I'm assuming the party cracked another sunrod after resting (please someone consume one). The question is, who has the sunrod? The hallways are not illuminated and if you close the door behind you, you will have no light w/o the sunrod. W/ the sunrod, how do you expect to hide?

A still pool of water dominates this room, which is noticeably more humid than others inside the catacombs. A sheen of water droplets covers the walls.

Bah, this adventure was very poorly written. There *IS* a glowing spire in the center of the fountain. Of course, its not on the map, or mentioned anywhere until the "illumination" section of the room...

So - the party CAN stay back if you prefer...but the spire only gives off dim light so if you don't have low light vision, you can't see much anyway.

Quick glance around the room from the doorway, see if I notice any "unnatural" rockshapes. Things that look like they might be more critters hiding to kill us, shamblers, hostages, rats, water moccasins, etc

The "Scary" ones are ghouls. You know that they have the ability to immobilize with a scratch, and that they do extra damage to immobilized targets.

The other scary ones are zombies, but that's all you know.

But I'll be nice and keep #2 with the 2nd one mentioned, the zombies. What you know about them is they have the ability to grab a target and make it VERY hard for you to get away from them (-5 to escape)

Round 1
The ghouls charge past the zombies. Ghoul 1 attacks Urvi with its claws (29 vs. AC17). The claws rake Urvi's skin lightly (7 dmg) but an unnatural chill creeps over her and she finds her legs don't want to work anymore. (Immobilized, save ends).

The second ghoul, seeing an opportunity, leaps at and bites Urvi (EWWWW). Fortunately (13 vs. AC17) she's so revolted by the idea that she manages to dodge its attempt to get his slobbery teeth on her quite easily.

I will shift to H12.

I will use rebuke undead. It's a radiant power, if that matters.

Attack+5 (Wis mod) vs Will
Ghoul1=7
Ghoul2=24
Zombie 1=6
Zombie 2=14

Damage+4:5

Mother ****er

Anything I hit I will slide towards the middle. For example I'm sure I hit Ghoul2 so I will slide it to J12. If I hit zombie1 I will slide it to K11. So maybe they'll be bunched up for raj.

Anything I hit is dazed until eont.

Urvi marks ghouls one and two (free action). She then calls upon the hungry earth as she swings at them (Standard action +7 vs Fort, each enemy in close burst 1 area, 1d12+4 damage, until EONT each square in burst is difficult terrain for your enemies).

If it is still available, Raj will move to H12. There, he will ready Lightning Blast. He will trigger the attack as soon as the zombies take 1 step forward.

Lightning Breath: +6 vs Ref, 3d8+7 lightning damage, close blast 3, Centered on J11.
Lightning shield on me, attackers take 5 damage, sustain minor.

Ghoul 1: 13 vs Ref
Ghoul 2: 25 vs Ref
Zombie 1: 15 vs Ref
Zombie 2: 13 vs Ref

Although there is no need for duma to move, actually. Close burst 5 from his spot has clear line of sight to all the enemies. I'll leave him where he is unless he objects.

Urvi does not take advantage of her font of life. She marks the ghouls, and calls upon the hungry earth, but the earth is apparently not very hungry for the undead. (2x miss). Urvi then does not take a saving throw.

Duma stays put, and radiates a blast of holy energy. Ghoul 2 and Zombie 2 are hit, the other two are not. The radiant power sears the undead flesh of both (5 + vulerable = 10 dmg) and the ghoul is pushed back, as is the zombie, who disappears through the door.

Burst, not blast. Significant difference in behavior. LIkewise, yours pulls, duma's pushes, neither slides.

Those ghouls are shifty - as Shere discovers when his attack is easily avoided by Ghoul 2.

The zombies move...zombie 1 advances on the waiting Raj, while #2 reappears in the door and shambles slowly towards the group.

Raj primed and ready to strike, unleashes a blast of lightning that encompasses all the enemies. Only ghoul 1 (13 vs. ref) avoids the electrical field (25 dam; all hit are now bloodied;

Zombie 2 can't do anything else - he just can't shamble close enough to play.

Zombie 1 shambles at Raj, the nearest target, and says, "BRRAAAIINNNSSS" and makes a grab for Raj (12 vs. Fort14-2) which Raj tries to avoid but...he sneezes at the wrong moment and the zombie takes hold of him. (Raj: Immobilized -5 to escape, save ends). Luckily, Raj's shield activates (reaction to melee attack) and not only is the Zombie shocked, but he's pushed back 1 square, breaking his hold on the Dragonborn Sneezer.

Meanwhile, both Ghouls are shouting at the Zombie to "Push the tall bitch out of the way and kill the bard!!!" but the zombies are only saying "brainzzzzz" and doing the zombie shuffle at whomever is closest.

Enraged, Ghoul 1 bull rushes Urvi, trying to make room for #2 to get to Jacoby. (17 vs. Fort 16). Urvi is shoved back a square, and as Ghoul 1 moves into where Urvi stood, Ghoul 2 moves next to Ghoul 1. Ghoul 2 attacks Jacoby with its claws (22 vs. AC) scratching Jacoby (6 dmg) and immobilizing him (SE).

I will shift to g13.

Then I will use Blades of Astral fire, centered on ghoul2.

Attack:5+ reflex
Ghoul2=25 (natural 20 boom!)
Ghoul1= 11+motl=18
Zombie1=20
zombie2=6

I will use MOTL for my attack roll on Ghoul1.

Damage:1d6 +4 plus radiant damage (5)

Ghoul2= all of it!
everyone else=14

Jacoby and Raj get +5 to their ac until EONT.

Assuming that hits I'll still center my blast on I11.

if ghoul 2 isn't hittable I'll figure out something else and ****ing curse urvi forever for ****ing up my awesome attack. :)

Looking at it, I don't think I have line of effect from where I would be even without the move and so greebo would have made me move anyway. I guess I'll slide to g12 instead, do the attack and then just take the OA from ghoul1.

True - easily remedied - Urvi got pushed SW instead to G12.

As Ghoul 2 attacks Jacoby (you did give it a -2 to attack since it was marked by me right?) Ghoul 2 cannot be slid to G12, that would be a slide 2 (it was in I11). Your only option is to slide Ghoul 2 to J12. I'll assume you wish to do so. No problem...

I am still waiting to hear what happens since Shere was in the space I was moved too. So I am guessing the attack changed a bit. Once I know what happened I'll post my actual attack.

Since Warden's grasp is a reaction, it occurs after the attack. Urvi has slid Ghoul 2 away from Jacoby, so now the space next to Jacoby is open, but Jacoby still got hit.

From where you are you have a free line of sight to I11. I'm not sure why you think you wouldn't - you can draw a line from H/I 12/13 intersection to all 4 corners of I11, so that's free line of sight and effect. Your actual attack - the burst 1 - starts in I11 - and covers all squares in the burst with no possibility of cover afaik.

Your attack is fine. Waiting on Urvi's attack.

Ah cool. I'm still fuzzy on the line of effect rules. I knew I could hit my target square but didn't know if I had to have ine of effect for all the squares in the burst.

We're at my parents, but while we're getting dinner I figured I'd post

Kiir slid the critter to J12 not G12, which is handy since she's in G12. I11-J12 should be legal AFAICT?

Urvi saves (Font of Life) vs the immobilization.

Urvi calls upon the Strength of Stone and assaults the Ghoul (Standard: Strength of Stone: +7 vs AC, 1d12+4 dmg, +4 THP) and marks it

She then tries to save vs the immobilization again

Urvi can't seem to shake off the paralyzing effect of the ghoul. She attempts to use the strength of stone on the Ghoul (19 vs. AC) but its a good thing Jacoby had weakened the ghoul's defenses or she'd have missed! As it stands, she manages to wing it (8 dmg). The immobilization holds...

Duma calls his blades of astral fire. From his position, the Zombie next to him gets a free shot...

Zombie 1 makes a slam at Duma (8 vs. ac higher than that) but misses.

... and Duma releases the astral power. The blades slam fully into Ghoul 2, hits Zombie 2, but misses Zombie 1 and yes, also Ghoul 1. Slippery bugger... Ghoul 1 takes 15 damage and Zombie 2 takes 14. Ghoul 1 is bloodied. Zombie 2 crumbles to dust...

And I just realized - ghoul 2 could NOT attack Jacoby last round. He was dazed, and could only move. No damage to Jacoby, Jacoby is not immobilized, and, sorry Kiir, but no sliding him as a reaction.

Raj will use tempest breath (close blast 3, centered on j11) to attack G2 and Z1. (Note: this is a close attack, no OA) 2d6+7 acid damage, +6 vs Ref.
Raj will (minor) sustain the lighting shield. He also gains concealment in the mist which eminates from him.

Also, I don't know if the immob was just a grab or a magical effect so I included a ST just in case.

Natural 20 vs zombie. 19 damage.
18 vs Ref Ghoul2 , 18 damage

I hope I didn't really need that ST.

If I am not immobilized, I'll shift to G13

Escape as defined as a move action in the phb - standard action, roll athletics vs. fortitude or acrobatics vs. reflex.

No matter which skill you use, though, the -5 is a killer - the zombies are slow and dense, but not that slow and dense.

Jacoby attempts a swing at Ghoul 1, but misses badly. He shifts away to gain some distance. The defensive reduction on Ghoul 1 fades - and the daze on ghoul 2 has faded as well (end of duma's last move).

Shere tries to land a blow on Ghoul 1 - but just as Shere sees an opening created by Jacoby's magic, the magic fades, and the blow misses (18 vs. ac).

Zombie 1 says "braaaainz" and slams the still grabbed Rajkelleran. (9 vs. AC14-2(sick)) Fortunately, the zombie is really slow and even the unwell Raj avoids the blow.

Rajkelleran sends out a breath of acid. The zombie holding him takes the full brunt of the blow and crumbles to dust (vulnerability discovered: instant destruction on a critical hit). Zombie 1 is no more, and Raj is free to move again. Ghoul 2 is unaffected (18 vs. ref - slippery little bugger!) Finally, Raj shifts

Ghoul 1 ignores the mark on it, and shifts towards Jacoby, fixated on the healer. He reaches out with his toxic claws and (21 - 2 mark vs. AC14) scratches the bard. The nasty cut (9 dmg) leaves Jacoby unable to move (immobilized SE)

Ghoul 2 follows Ghoul 1 and steps up to Shere. He tries the same claw attack (13 vs AC17) ineffectively.

I'll hit ghoul2 with Avenging Light (unless it is dead, in which case I will do it to ghoul1).

Damage:1d10+4+5(radiant)=16

Swearing an Oath (Minor: Oath of Enmity) against Ghoul 1 (unless it's dead), Shere shifts up (Move: Shift G11->G10) and brings his flail down at it again (STandard: Bond of Retribution: +7 vs AC, 1d10+4 dmg, radiant if the other one attacks me)

Maybe 22 vs AC hits, then 12 dmg

Urvi will use her Font to break the immobilize. Not breaking the immobilize, she will then Mark ghoul 2 (free), then call upon the strength of stone once more to attack him (standard, +7 vs AC, 1d12+4 damage, +4 temp hit points). She then fights the bonds of the immobilize again, but fails (save).

Urvi tries and fails to break free, so she challenges ghoul 2, and the power of stone (25 vs ac) slams into it (11 dmg; 4thp -> urvi). She then fails to break free again.

Duma calls forth divine power and (speaking of divine power, have you forgotten your rebuking chain?) slams holy light into Ghoul 2 (19 vs. fort). The radiance burns the ghoul severely (16 dmg). The ghoul seems extremely weakened, but its still standing...

Very much so - these guys are tough to hit!

So Jacoby manages to free himself, but that's all for now.

But Shere manages to bring his flail down on the ghoul (22 vs. AC) for a decent hit (12 dmg) and the promise of pain to come...(retribution).

Shere had shifted to G10, specifically to aid Jacoby and allow Urvi to reach both this round Otherwise I'm waiting to see where we stand at my turn

Folks -- I have my divine Guidance for use against my Enmity Target, so one person can re-roll one attack against that target if they choose to. Just make sure you say why you're rolling again ;)

Rajkelleran attempts to send a blast of cold at the second ghoul, but the ghouls is (13 vs. fort) way too resilient.

Ghoul 1 disregards Shere, and continues focusing on Jacoby. His claws (19 vs AC14) rake across his flesh (7 dmg; immobilized (se); bloodied)

Ghoul 2 tries to bite the tasty treat called Urvi (13 vs. AC17) but Urvi easily dodges the sharp, foul looking teeth.

Raj will use Dragonfrost on G2 if it is alive, G1 if it isn't. (+6 vs Fort, d8+7 damage, push 1)

Natural 20 vs G 1 or G2. 15 damage, no push used.

I will hit Ghoul2 with avenging light. if it is dead I wil hit ghoul1 (and get extra damage!).

So if my target is ghoul2 that is 19 damage.
If it is ghoul1 that is 21 damage due to the bonus of it being next to a bloodied ally.

Since there are two natural 20's on the table, I'm just gonna wrap this up now :)

Duma and Raj look at each other and let loose with two ferocious blasts of energy. Nobody can tell who hits whom, but in the end, both ghouls are destroyed - one with searing divine power, one with freezing cold.

As they die, they die laughing. "You've beaten us...but you're too late to save the boy....."

The undead wear only tattered rags over their partially decomposed flesh.

Looking through the east door:

This room has alcoves full of skeletal remains along the south wall, plus an annex with a fountain and a pair of empty shackles in the wall. Fresh blood is on the shackles, and the floor around that area is stained wet. There is a trail of blood drops and some other liquid...urine possibly from the smell...up through the hallway to the north. It is apparently fresh.

Even as you start to move north, you hear a boyish scream of terror coming from the 15' wide hallway to the north! Quickly, no time to rest, the party rushes to the screams!

(I assume, anyway...correct me if I'm wrong)
