Damelon's eyes flutter open. It is nearly pitch black, but he appears to be propped up against the wall in one of the huts. His feet and hands appear to be bound.
Erik awakens. His head feels like someone has played a bongo tune on it. He finds himself lying on his face... on... something wooden? His feet seem bound, and his hands are tied behind his back. He coughs lightly as he notices that he is gagged.
Crashing was having a fantastic dream about cavorting through the forest with some island ladies. He was hanging lazily in a hammock, a cold drink in his hand... and... wha? This isn't a hammock... it's rocking though, and slightly enclosing... Crashing finds that he is lying face up and above him he sees a spectactular mass of stars in a dark sky. A familiar scent wafts through his nostrils that reminds him of home, somehow...
Sigurd groans and wakes up. He appears to be propped up against some sort of wall, though his hands, feet and eyes are bound.
KT feels something tickle his face. He jerks awake to see a black spider scurry off across the... room? His hands are bound and his feet as well, but at least he can see. Flickering fire-light comes in through a door that is across the single room from him.

OOC: Can we surge at this point? While you're not particularly pressed at this juncture, I don't think you're really in a position to "take 5", what with your hands and legs (and faces in some cases) bound. You have managed to naturally recover somewhat, if you'll notice (you're at half HP and have recovered your encounter powers, but not dailies). Essentially, you've already auto-surged. Thanks for reminding me that I was going to remove a surge from each of you for that... (it's a bargain, really...)

Is an ability check DC lower than a skill check? It would kind of make sense that they might, given that ability mods are lower than skill mods, but if you look at the PHB, some of those ability mods are still kinda high. I'd always go with the skill if I could, because base skill mods are usually +4 or so.

Damelon attempts to wriggle out of his bonds (Acro 13: fail) without success. He finds them to be rather tight, and made of some sort of vine. He attempts to gather information on his surroundings, but his eyes have trouble focusing in the dim light (Perception: 8). He does hear the gentle lap of waves on a shoreline, and he's SURE there's someone else in the room with him to his left.
Erik tries not to panic as he wriggles around on the hard surface. He flexes his fingers (Acro 11: fail) but can't extricate them and further more, even fails to roll over. All he can see is what appears to be the wooden floor, all close-like.
Crashing takes a few moments to gather his wits. He notes that his "hammock" is a dugout canoe, and the rocking is from the waves. (Perception 18) He hears a low murmuring and the crackling of a fire. Both are from fairly nearby, maybe 30 feet at most. He tries to wriggle his wrists out of the vine bindings (Acro 13: fail) but finds them quite snug. He also hears a wooden clunking every once in a while, as if his canoe were bumping against another alongside of it.
Sigurd tries to sit up, and finds himself leaning on a wall of some sort. (Passive Perception 14) He really wishes his eyes weren't covered, but he can still tell, through the rough cloth, that there is light coming through some sort of opening near him. He can also hear mutterings and the crackle of a fire.
KT struggles with his bonds. (Acrobatics 14) They are quite tight, however and he finds that he'll need another strategy to remove them, or perhaps some help. He appears to be inside a hut (Passive Perception 14), maybe even one of the same huts that he saw earlier. He senses another body next to him, to his right. He THINKS he might have heard someone somewhere to his right whisper something, but he can't be sure what it was. Taking a shot in the dark (literally) he says, "Anyone there?" Within seconds, footsteps draw nearer and a figure is silhouetted in the doorway. The humanoid, one of the previously encountered cannibals, draws near and kicks him in the ribs. (DAM: 1) It grunts at him warningly, and returns the way it came. KT gasps in pain.

Sigurd strains to break the vines binding his wrists (Strength: 12+4 vs DC: fail) but just ends up pulling a muscle.
KT, hands bound behind back (sorry if this wasn't clear) twists and then gropes around for something sharp behind him in the dim light but only encounters the person next to him, who is now partially upgright and moving towards him, backwards apparently. (Perception 22) Is that... Damelon? It is very dark, probably near midnight, and the hut is a simple 10x10 room made of bamboo. A few crude sleeping mats are on the floor, though it's hard to tell in the dim light that is cast into the doorway from the apparent campfire outside.
Damelon feels someone grab and squeeze his right butt cheek.

Crashing SLOWLY sits up. He finds that indeed he IS now sitting in a dugout canoe at the edge of the ocean. The front of the canoe is on the sand, but the latter half is in shallow water, and bobs slightly. Crashing realizes that he probably shouldn't thrash around too much, if he wants to avoid tipping the canoe and drawing attention (and perhaps drowning in the water, which is about a foot deep where he's sitting). He finds himself facing the ocean, with his back to the shore. The sounds behind him haven't changed, so he doesn't believe anyone has noticed. Very quietly he cranes his head around and looks behind him. He sees four clubber-type figures sitting around a fire. They appear to be eating and drinking and discussing something. Several bodies lie in the enclosure, piled up here and there.
Crashing reflects that if he had someone here to help him with his bindings, that would go a lot easier. Or if he found something sharp...

Erik wriggles around a bit and tries to at least get face up. In that at least, he succeeds, while his attempts to loose his bonds meet with complete failure. He decides to take a breather. Hey, the stars are really pretty tonight...
Sigurd attempts to feel around in the dark with his behinds-back-bound hands. He finds nothing useful (Perception 7). He then turns his efforts to trying to "scrub" up/down the blindfold on the wall. He finds the bamboo very rough and winds up with the blindfold still on, but a nice exfoliation (Acro 8: fail).
Damelon feels KT fumbling with his bonds a bit. The bard manages to jam a few fingers in between the knot and Damelon's wrist, at least allowing the rogue a bit of extra leverage for the next escape attempt (+2 to next Acro attempt, Damelon).
Crashing (Perception 28) looks around the gently bobbing canoe. In front of him, between his knees, he sees what appear to be a few large pieces of shell. Maybe the remains of an appetizer? (Let's see an acro attempt to snag those suckers with your teeth or something... or maybe to scooch down the canoe to move over them and position them behind you...)

As I understand it, Damelon and KT are back to back now, like this: _| |_.
Are our hands bound in front or back? If bound in back, I want to work on KT's ropes with my hands since our hands should be touching. If our wrists are bound, then my fingers should be free enough to try this. Easier to work on someone else than myself, probably.
This also seems like a real Thievery type action, too, not Acro.

Damelon benefits greatly from KT's stabilization of the bindings and manages to twist/wrench his left and then right hand free of the bonds. He rubs his chafed wrists to return their circulation a bit. It only takes him a moment or two further to unbind his feet.

Actually, such blatantly obvious information should just be disclosed, don't you think?Only so many things are "obvious" when you are bound up in the dark. You'd have no real way of knowing unless you looked around... none of you really had time to "stow" any of your weapons at the points you lost consciousness and you woke up with none in your hands so... while it logically followed, I didn't want you to make too many assumptions. Your weapons could have been lying just next to you, for example... you wouldn't know until you felt around the very dark hut a bit. (As you are doing now)
It becomes clear to KT and Damelon that while their clothing/armour is in place, their weapons are nowhere to be found. They appear to be in a 10x10 hut with a rectangular opening in the western wall, south of you. You see crude bamboo mats for sleeping on and a few cooking utensils or something. You appear to still have most of the cuts and bruises of combat, but are generally better off than when you hit the dirt.

Damelon creeps behind the hut, but finds no door in that wall. Thinking back, he recalls which walls that he'd seen did NOT have doors, and through his powers of deductive reasoning, makes assumptions about where they should be.
I've updated the map (added east, south and west door tiles) with what you remember of the doors to the huts. They all seem to face the sea.
(Stealth: 9) As he crawls out from under one of the huts, his knee crunches down on a shell, which crackles. One of the clubbers gets up from the fire and walks over to the NW hut (to D6) and looks in. After a moment, he grunts, satisfied, and returns to the fire.
(Perception: 25) Damelon notices two things... the clubber swayed and shuffled as he walked. He's either wounded or drunk or tired or all three. Also, there is a shadowy figure just north of the hut the clubber visited... it quickly hopped up on the frame of the hut and went still when the clubber approached, and dropped back down when the cannibal left. It appears female.

Sigurd rolls around a bit, still bound, gagged and blindfolded. His mind tries to make sense of why he's blindfolded. I mean... come on. Clunking around on the wooden floor, he encounters what he presumes to be rough sleeping mats... an old candle maybe... ewww... some rotten fruit... and nothing else. He's definitely indoors, as he encounters walls on at least two sides.
If I wanted to try to get Crashing's attention, what would that entail? And would there be penalties for being bound and gagged? (I assume so) It depends. You really aren't sure where Crashing is (though he's on the map). He is currently lying down and you are sitting up.
KT waffles back and forth between "staying put" and "taking a look" and finally decides on the latter. He creeps to the door of the hut and peeks out... but his foot strikes a half-coconut husk and sends it tumbling out of the hut and down the ramp. One of the clubbers stands up, alarmed, and beckons to one of the others. Both head towards the hut. (See map)

The pair of islanders stalk into the hut and immediately notice that they're down one captive. Howling with rage, one beckons to the other two at the fire while the foremost grabs KT by the feet... and immediately can tell that the bonds have been played with. Grabbing the minstrel by a leg (Grab: 17 vs REF-2: success) he quickly drags him (Move Grabbed: 22 vs REF-2) out of the hut and down onto the sand with a bump-bump-bump. (It's up to you what you want to do here, Greebs... roll init for to attack, or try something else). He emphatically gestures for KT to "stay down" and has not noticed the "weapon" KT has behind his back.
Erik and Crashing exchange glances, and both shrug at each other so as to say "sorry, bud". Erik lies back down, awaiting rescue. Both can hear what is going on by the hut, and haven't been noticed peeking out of the canoes.
With all the grace of a gazelle with it's head stuck in a peanut butter jar, Damelon moves towards Lamsi. Two of the islanders hear and fan out to find out where the noise came from.

This is probably a standard action but Dam is going to try and "pickpocket" a dagger from Lamsi, 5+8 = 13.
Pick Pocket: Standard action.
✦ DC: DC 20 + your target’s level. If in combat, you
take a –10 penalty to your check.
✦ Success: You lift a small object from the target without
the target noticing.
✦ Fail by 4 or Less: You don’t get the object, but
the target didn’t notice. You can try again as a
new action.
✦ Fail by 5 or More: You don’t get the object, and the
target notices your failed attempt.Since Lamsi is not hostile, I don't think DC20 is appropriate, nor is the -10 penalty since I read that as referencing the target of the pickpocket, i.e. I am not in combat with Lamsi. Damelon also does not care if she notices. Dam is just trying to grab a dagger off her belt.

Start searching everything. Every canoe, every hut, all the bedrolls, etc. I want my equipment back.
The party takes their time searching the campsite. It appears the bodies of the fallen clubbers and underlings and guardsmen are still lying out in the open, though they seem to have been at least piled up. KT drags the heavy bundle from the NE hut out into the open. It appears to have a body in it, judging by the shape, weight and size.
Hey, can papa gator go fetch that drifting canoe? No. He's an alligator, not a labrador. :D Remember, it's quite dark... the light from the fire travels out across the water, but you can't see a lot of detail farther out. You heard a splash as the fleeing clubman was hit, but you aren't sure what it might have been, at least at this time of night and at this distance.
Damelon quickly checks the sack in Crashing's canoe. I bet it is our gear.Damelon rushes to the canoe next to Crashing (the one with the dead underling in it) and sees that indeed yes, the bundled items are their weapons and equipment (you were still wearing your armour, for those of you who have it).
I'll check and see what it is I saw in the canoe and then go check on Lamsi (although I imagine they ran to avoid dying). Crashing approaches Lamsi, who is now checking the southern huts. She appears to be looking for someone. Darganti, maybe? "Why did you run?" Crashing says, interrupting her.
She turns to him, as if expecting his question. Her eyes flash, pridefully. "Did not run. Darganti... saw more Eaters coming. Told me to fall back, go for help. I did not want to, but Mokdi has told me to listen to Darganti, at least for this hunt. Darganti is a good fighter, even though he seems very... blunt and pushy at times. And frustrating to deal with..." she frowns.
"I did retreat up the path, but I just... could not go home... it was too far... you would be gone by the time I got back with more warriors. So I turned back again. I could not leave you here. so I came back and waited until dark. I saw that there were only four, so... I decided to cut myself into the huts where you were being kept. But then you got free by yourselves... Spoiled my plan, but it worked out alright, I guess." she smiles weakly.
"Darganti would not be happy with me, but... I did what I felt was right. At least, he would be mad if I could find him... I am sorry for your friend... you must be sad. When I got back, they had already hacked him apart." She takes a quick breath as if fighting nausea and tries not to look at the hunks of flesh still lying around the campfire.
"We should look for Darganti, he might be hurt!" she says.
Damelon will go check out the hut nearest the lake and free Sigurd if he is inside. He will bring Sigurd's weapon to him. Damelon enters the hut and true to his hunch, Sigurd is there, trussed up like a side of beef. Damelon removes his blindfold and cuts his bonds and the barbarian stands stiffly and flexes, working the circulation back into his limbs.

"He got away..." she says weakly, "but they caught him, I think." She traces a trail of broken foliage back to the beach and then some bits of blood down to the waterline. She points to a line on the sand. "A canoe was here." she says, her voice getting very, very flat.

Damelon will unwrap the thing in a bag.
Damelon carefully unwraps the strange "package". As he suspected, it is a body, that of the shaman. It appears that while the rank and file Eater doesn't thrive on much ceremony, they do revere their holy-men. This guy was probably bundled up for the trip home. He appears to be in his 60's, and while he sports the dangerously filed teeth of the other cannibals, he appears to be less dirty, more kempt. Searching the body further, Damelon finds two interesting items, a small carved shark and a stone necklace, which encircles the man's neck.
Also, once he has his gear, he will return Lamsi's dagger.Damelon turns and offers her dagger back to Lamsi, who accepts it. She speaks up, finally.
"We burn this..." she says, turning in a slow circle with her arms wide, gesturing to the enclosure. Crashing and KT read a mixture of emotions on her face. Relief and sadness, mostly.
