Dawn breaks over the camp. The "Warriors From Far" slumber on, and the villagers are more than happy to let their saviours sleep in; they go about their daily tasks of fishing, gathering wood, grinding corn...
It is Erik that finally wakes first to the sound of a female voice humming one of KT's shanty's. He cracks an eye open and through his open doorway, sees Lamsi and another islander woman putting fresh fruit on their common-area table. Noticing him stirring, the hunter turns and smiles widely at him.
"Good morning!" she says in accented common. "Do you sleep all day?" She laughs, and retreats out of the hut to let you get up and get ready.
The party tumbles out of bed and stretches and scratches (as all male groups are wont to do). They wash up, grab a few items of fruit from the basket and head out into the mid-morning sunlight. They find the islanders have set out a hearty breakfast for them... cornmeal cakes with some sort of fruit syrup... light fillets of fish... more fruit... pulpy juice...
The group partakes heartily and sees that work has already continued on the rafts, judging by the pounding going on down near the shore. Mokdi joins them as they finish up, and Lamsi hovers the whole time, as usual.
"So..." the old man says. "You will be going to the place of the tall rafters this day? Lamsi will lead you. The path does not go there, but some ways. Take provisions but not many... Lamsi will help you find food in the forest, there is much around."
Do you wish to talk to anyone, do anything before you head out?

What kind of language skill has KT got with the natives now? Are we able to communicate more complex concepts?Only Crashing has really put in some sort of effort with working with the islanders to understand them (miltiple int rolls). He and the islanders can pretty much communicate at-will now. Lamsi and Mokdi are the only islanders with working knowledge of common, the latter knew it from long ago, the former learned a bit from Mokdi over the years and has worked with Crashing to understand it better; she's a quick study. As such, Mokdi and Lamsi will communicate with Crashing with basically perfect grammar, even on complex topics, while speaking a bit more "simply" to the rest of the party. You've only been here a few days, after all. At this point, your best bet is still via Lamsi/Mokdi to get any kind of useful information.

After breakfast, the party gears up and heads out of the village. A large number of the islanders see them off, including Mokdi, and they continue to wave until the party is swallowed up by the greenery. They walk down the same path that they took to go to the Eater outpost, but after about an hour, branch off east and cross the stream. It isn't far beyond that that the trail peters out. Not much traffic goes this way, it seems.
It is just shortly after noon, and the party is reduced to hacking it's way through the foliage. Well... most of the party. Lamsi leads the way, ducking and crawling over branches and roots with the agility of a lemur, while the rest of the group do the best they can, lopping off branches and leaves that are particularly annoying.
The ranger stops suddenly, cocking her head to the side. She listens for a minute while the party freezes. She then resumes moving again. Not ten paces later, she stops again, and listens. She looks back at the party and slowly nocks an arrow on her hunting bow. She motions for quiet and slowly turns in a circle, listening again.

The jungle practically explodes with the sounds of smashed foliage. Birds scream and take off up through the canopy. It's so noisy it's almost hard to tell where the sound comes from!
Sigurd:You hear nothing but the noise of limbs snapping, all around you it seems.
Erik, Damelon:The sounds seem to primarily be coming from somewhere north of you.
Crashing, KT:The sounds seem to be coming from the Northwest and northeast. Lots of broken sticks and crunched leaves, specifically... and... maybe animal sounds?

I didn't mean to imply anything wasn't clear. I was just trying to be clear that I want to get his attention BEFORE he acts. Of course, as DM you have the prerogative to restrict use of free actions in other combatants turns but I figured if you wanted to, you would. :)

Concerned to say the least, KT snaps his fingers and directs the party's focus to the North. All look in that direction (Lamsi was already looking that way) and the sounds definitely are coming from the NW and NE.
Damelon looks around for something to hide behind but only comes up with heavy undergrowth... so he ducks down. (Stealth: 11)
Crashing points to the NW and NE to indicate the source of the noise, which DOES appear to be drawing nearer. He steps back and (Stealth: 16) hides behind... Damelon. :D
Lamsi waves at the group to get their attention and points... Upwards? Leaping against the trunk of a nearby tree, she quickly shimmies up to the lowest branch, about 10 feet up.
Erik backs south (Stealth: 6) but trips over some roots and doesn't get very far. Thankfully he stays on his feet.
KT hunkers down (Stealth: 8). With ONLY his head sticking up above the undergrowth, he meets Damelon's eye and winks. "Can you see me?" he asks, smirking confidently.

Round 1:
Damelon hunkers down a little lower. His eyes move below the tops of the undergrowth, and peer through the twiggier bits underneath. Something big is moving his way FAST from the Northeast.
Crashing dashes for a nearby tree and briefly contemplates his options on the whole "climbing" issue. Holding his spear gingerly between his teeth, he tries to climb... and immediately gets the spear snagged between two branches, jarring him backwards (Athletics 4: fail). That doesn't work so well...
"UP!" Lamsi shouts from the nearby tree branch.
Damelon catches a flash of tusks and some sort of glistening nose before he is bowled over by something that screams and squeals (ATK 16 vs AC: hit). Damelon is nicked by a tusk (DAM: 4) and tumbles head over heels backwards (knocked prone, pushed 2).
Erik hears the same horrible squealing and sees the undergrowth before him furrowed by something that is moving quickly through them towards him. With a grunt, he is nailed in the midriff by a thick snout (ATK 21 vs AC: hit) and shoved backwards, colliding with a tree and staggering off his feet (DMG: 5, prone, pushed 2 but blocked by tree).
Crashing sees the flash of dark, hairy hide flash past him (Crashing gets an OA).
KT, looking back at the mayhem behind him, fails to notice the 3rd beast bearing down on him from the Northeast. It charges past Sigurd (Sigurd gets an OA) and catches the bard at the knee level, sending him flying towards Crashing. The shaman sees KT bounces off the nearby tree trunk and come to rest at his feet. (DMG 6, prone, pushed 2 but blocked by Crashing)
Seeing all of this, Sigurd prepared for the inevitable. One of the dark shapes charges him but he (ATK 14 vs AC 16+2: miss) diverts the tusky snout.
Crashing thinks the worst is over, but then glances back and sees the undergrowth parting towards him. He catches the flash of beady little black eyes and two giant tusks before something crashes into his lower back. (ATK: 24 vs AC: hit) The shaman slams facefirst against the tree and topples back to the ground (DAM: 5, prone, push 2 blocked by tree)
Something big and dark squeals and paws at the ground below Lamsi's tree. She readies her bow and looks at the rest of the group, her face silently communicating "haven't you ever seen these before?" to them while she obviously struggles to find the word for the creatures.

Erik recovers quickly, and lurches to his feet. He stabs his hand out at the nearest boar and ice flies from his fingers. (ATK 18 vs FOR: hit, DMG: 14, target pushed to E4) I've moved KT over to next to Crashing, but he's actually in Crashing's square; easier this way.

Woops, I missed these:
Erik's mind scans backwards to his day-trip to a zoo when he was a wee lad... and he tries to remember what the keeper told him about these... (Nature 15: success) Wild boars are huge pigs, basically. They're not usually agressive, unless they are protecting young or foraging territory. Their eyesight is poor, but their hearing and smell is very, very good. When they attack, they generally do so with a wild charge which impales their targets with their sharp tusks, and then blasts them back with rough application of sheer body weight. Once they have their target on the ground, the gore them with those same tusks.
Crashing swings at the boar as it roars past, but misses (ATK 13 vs AC: miss).
Back to the normal flow...
KT: Guiding strike is a melee attack... E6 isn't in melee range of any boars. Not that it matters, you missed.
KT crawls backwards and stands and whiffs his sword at empty air. Seeing the boar miss Sigurd, he grants Sigurd the ability to lightly move Northeast. (to D2, I assumed)
Sigurd the Steady lashes out at the nearest porcine beast with a Howling Strike (ATK 9 vs AC: miss) which clips nothing but branches. Summoning his reserves (AP burned), he tries to move around the boar (to E3, as requested) , which lashes out, biting him deeply (ATK crit vs AC: hit, DMG: 9). He gets his revenge, though and swings his axe in a mighty arc (ATK 19 vs REF Boar 3: hit, DMG 13, prone) knocking the boar flat! His swing misses the boar just behind him (4) but boar 2 is struck hard (ATK 24 vs REF: hit, DAM 13, prone) and knocked flat.

KT stands and heals Sigurd. Sigurd takes his frustration out on the boar, killing it.
Lamsi moves through the party, checking to see if all are alright. She seems a bit concerned that you weren't able to respond quickly to her warning, though you can easily chalk that up to her being from a hunter/gatherer society to which "climb a tree to avoid boars" is as obvious as "don't nap in the middle of a busy road".
She looks at the sky and then picks one of the better looking carcasses. "Food?" she says, carefully. She quickly drops and slashes the boars throat, ensuring it is dead, then works to fashion a pair of carrying poles, and stands near the corpse. She looks at you as to say, "You guys hungry?".
She turns and points to the east. "Small open land that way."

KT rips up more turf. It comes up in large sheets; it hasn't bound well to the old stone below, which you notice is tightly fitted and interlocked. It is definitely a road of some sort. These are paving stones. Crashing explains to Lamsi the desire to detour north, and Lamsi doesn't seem to mind. "We not know hurry here..." she says.
After lunch, the party starts following the overgrown stone road, observing that the pillars continue along with them. The walking is a bit easier, as the path is devoid of the larger trees and bushes. The sun is still fairly high in the sky (3pm) when the party finally enters a much larger clearing. Before them, the paved road ends in a large plaza. In the middle is a mound that looks to be the remains of a broken down fountain. The columns widen out here, encompassing the plaza, which appears to be a circle about 100 yards across. On the far northern edge are stone steps that lead up into the yawning maw of a gigantic stone structure. Vines and foliage have it's surfaces nearly covered, and the stairs are practically a ramp, they are that eroded.

It is flanked by intricate columns... or what were intricate columns... three are shattered and only half of the remaining one is still standing. The doorway has notches at the sides... it likely had heavy wooden doors at one point but they've long since rotted away. As Sigurd carefully peeks his head into the dark opening he strains to hear anything... is that... moaning?... no, just the wind... but... maybe...?

Damelon will approach the entrance, examine it for stability (per = 20) and then enter slowly assuming his examination gives an all clear.

KT contemplates shooting Damelon in the back momentarily...
"I'd like to have an idea of how big this place is before we go in. Fools rush in, and all that..."

How big does it appear to be, L*W?
Quite large. The structure before you is about 150 feet across the front and goes back about the same amount, it appears. The upper level seems smaller, like a ziggurat.
Damelon pushes past Lamsi and Sigurd and pokes his head into the doorway. Double-wide stairs lead down into the darkness, at least 20 feet or so before the darkness swallows them up..

"Look, this place is too old to have traps. None of us has spotted bones or droppings that indicate a current occupant. We might as well explore it for a bit."

"Yeah, no traps, right. You go first!"
I'm game to go in - if Damelon leads.
