At the bottom of the stone steps, the corridor turns south, and opens into another long, dark room. Tiny bits of light filter down from small vents placed far above in the ceiling. Here and there along both walls are broken down wooden crates and torn, dried fabrics... it looks like some kind of marketplace. At the edge of your vision, you can see that a corridor leaves this room to the west, but you cannot see the far southern wall... the room is long.

Round 1
Bat 1 swoops down towards KT. Throwing his arms in the air, the bard manages to brush away the attack and the vermin flutters off (15 vs AC: miss).
Bat 2 makes a bee-line (bat-line?) for Sigurd. Raising the haft of his weapon, the barbarian manages to ward off the claws and teeth (14 vs AC: miss). The bat zips off into a nearby alcove.
Bat 3 targets the first one in line, Damelon. Partially distracted by the other bats, the rogue is not able to avoid the oncoming black creature (17 vs AC, DAM: 8) and is bitten savagely.
Lamsi, unable to draw a bead (designate quarry) on the closest bat, fires instead on Bat 3. The arrow strikes home (26 vs AC, DAM: 9)

Can I get a map link? I'm not at my computer.
Greebo
5th February 2010, 12:47 PM
Don't see a map link anywhere so since it attacked me, i'll attack bat 1:
Vicious Mockery +4 vs. will
1d6+4 and -2 to attack EONT
17 vs will, 8 dmg, -2 to all attacks for 1 round
EricStratton
5th February 2010, 12:50 PM
Since I'm short on time, here's Erik's turn. Edit: Having seen the map Erik will target Bat 1.
Chaos Bolt: 16+4 vs WIL
Dmg: 1d10 + 6 = 11 dmg
B/c I rolled an even Erik gets +1 to AC until SoNT (I think it's start).
And b/c he rolled an even number (and hit I assume) he gets to make a secondary attack this time against Bat 3 since (I think) it doesn't have cover from me.
CB 2: 2+4 vs WIL
Dmg: 1d6
Bah, ok all done.

Round 1
Erik thinks hard (Arcana 23). He comes up with the following:
Shadowhunter Bats linger near places touched by the Shadowfell. They hunt alone or in small groups sometimes acting at the behest of other shadow creatures or undead masters. Erik has never seen one before in person... only in old dusty books that concerned themselves with legends.
Regardless, he fires a zigzagging bolt at one of the bats still in the big room. (20 vs WIL, DAM: 11, 6 vs WIL: miss) The bat screams in agony.
KT hurls curses at the same bat (17 vs WIL, DAM: 8) and it's sensitive ears are seared. He thinks about Shadowhunters as well, but comes up with nothing new.
Damelon...

Sigurd will delay his attack until a bat comes within distance again.
Attack:
Recuperating Strike; +6 attack, 1d12+4 damage, on hitting you gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier (+1). If you are raging, the number of temporary hit points you gain equals 5 + your Constitution modifier (+1).

Crashing summons forth his guardian reptile just as Sigurd vacates it (why not... I don't wanna move him back). Mumbling "Cuzi hohlter sohtyt nezxtame" towards the south end of the room, cauling forth wispy shards of darkness which dance around Bat 1, which howls in protest (21 vs AC, DAM: 7).

Damelon slinks forward and right and lashes out at the nearest bat, hovering before him. He decapitates it handily. (25 vs REF, DAM: 14)
Sigurd likewise meets with success... addressing the bat in the hallway with his axe. (21 vs AC?, DAM: 16) And he addresses it mightily, cleaving it in twain.

Round 2
The remaining bat zooms in at Damelon, who is fresh on his victory over Bat 1. The fluttering mammal swoops in and rakes it's claws across the upper arm of the rogue (23 vs AC, DAM: 8). It wheels and darts south, out of sight into the darkness.
Lamsi moves south as far as she can, but without a torch, she cannot see the bat.

IIRC, Erik has one of the torches so...
*gulp* Erik moves up as far as B17 or until he can see the bat.

15th February 2010, 12:30 PM
Erik moves cautiously forward. As the torchlight expands, he can finally see the other end of the room, and the bat, who appears to be headed for an opening in the east wall. Catching sight of the receding tail of the creature, he fires another chaos bolt at it (21 vs WIL, DAM: 12). The blast strikes the bat squarely in one wing, and spins it around a few times.
KT strides forward and takes a shot as well, sending some particularly scathing words at the departing creature. (21 vs WIL, DAM: 10) The bat is in very, very bad shape now. It wings are in tatters.

Near the top of the pile of rubble in the SE corner of the room (near the doorway) you find another scrap of paper.
"I've had to lock Mira in her room, she may be completely deranged. I found a huge spider in the pantry too, I have no idea where it came from. I was able to kill it with the help of the fire monkey, and we found it's flesh to be succulent."
Near the note is a small alcove in the wall. Jammed into it is a crumbling leather sack. Inside is a gem probably worth 100gp.

Turning their attention to the opening in the west wall, the party picks it's way past the remains of what must have been bazaar stalls long ago... All that's left is bits of metal and wood. Nothing really significant. The western passage doesn't go very far before the party enters a square room with a stone staircase sprialling up (counterclockwise). Far above, light streams down from a skylight in the ceiling. The staircase has a few gaps but looks like it could be traversed, if carefully.
