View Full Version : Are we still working on things?

I haven't done a ton of activity, but I'm still working on the points. I quit keeping track of them in excel, but I have an average per meal and I try to keep track of them that way. I've managed to lose quite a bit of weight, so far.
Also, for those dessert-minded people, I've gotten into a GREAT easy and inexpensive dessert. I got it off of one of the pages that Evenstarr posted.
Chocolate Eclair Dessert
2 small boxes sugar free vanilla pudding
3 cups fat free or 1% milk (I use 1%, I just CAN'T get down to skim)
1 8 oz container fat free cool whip
1 box low-fat graham crackers
1 small box sugar free chocolate pudding
1 1/2 c. Milk (see above)
In bowl, combine vanilla pudding and milk and mix thoroughly and leave sit for two minutes. While that is setting, line the bottom of a large baking dish with graham crackers. The recipe calls for a 9 x 13 pan, but the 8 crackers it says to line the bottom of the pan with don't fit. I use an 11x14 and it STILL doesn't fit.
Fold cool whip into vanilla pudding and pour half over graham crackers. Put another layer of graham crackers over vanilla pudding, then spread the other half of the vanilla pudding. Layer one more layer of graham crackers.
Combine chocolate pudding and milk, let sit for 2 minutes, pour over last layer of graham crackers. Cover, refigerate at LEAST 3 hours, but overnight is best, to allow the graham crackers to soften enough.
18 servings at 3 points each.

I haven't been to the gym in over a month. I have been losing weight though, a tiny bit, slowly just because of the pace. My day is pretty much 1) get up, go to work 2) get off work, go visit BA at hospital 3) get home at 9-10pm 4) try to do some laundry/cleaning/houshold stuff 5) check SR messages, fix a few bugs and 6) crash at about 1am. :P Optionally, on the nights I have Maggie it's 1) get up, get Maggie ready, drop her off at my mom's/sister's, go to work 2) get off work go visit BA at hospital, sometimes taking Maggie in 3) Get home around 9pm, play with Mags a bit and put her to bed 4) try to do some household stuff 5) crash.
It's not a LOT of variance, but I'm keeping very busy.

Activity is activity. From all the reading about dieting I've been doing over the last couple of months, there's one underlying truth to them all: The point is to burn more calories than you take in, to lose weight.
It sounds ridiculously simple, but the complicated part of it isn't the general idea of dieting, it's how you go about controlling how much you take in and how much you expend.
I expect to spend a LOT of calories in the next month, cleaning my ex's basement (you DON'T want to know), painting and packing for the move, then moving and then UNpacking. Yay.

Isn't it ironic that negative net cash / month is bad but negative net calories / month is good? Too bad it wasn't the other way around! :P

Yah, I'm still working at it.
But most of the exercise I get is walkign around the other building, carrying stuff between offices, or taking K on walks :/
And I quit worrying about the points, b/c after the first few weeks we realized that we WERE eating healthy. My only problem is portions;
And after spending most of last year hungry, I'm still not big on the "I'm still hungry, there's still more food, so I think I will NOT eat anything and CONTINUE being hungry" deal :/ But I'm getting better at it finally, again.

My problem with portions has to do with my eating speed. I'm WAY past full before my body even realizes it. Last week I was taking some scripting training and was eating a burger combo at the food court with a co-worker. I was carrying most of the conversation and still managed to finish my entire up-sized combo, avec root beer before she'd even started her burger. I was raised by dingos, I think.

LOL :D
I fell off the wagon pretty hard with the Keys trip and I'm still struggling to get back on in earnest. The biggest challenge is exercising for me. Right now, about all I can do aerobically is ride the exercise bike and then, for toning, there's Pilates, etc. I just can't walk that much which is, by far, the easiest thing to fit in to the day...
Okay, I'll stop complaining now :)
I plan to get back on track over the next week or so and try to establish some patterns. It may fluctuate a bit while I settle in to whatever the new work schedule will be in the new job (I expect it to take some adjusting since many of the people on my team are located in San Jose, CA) but I'm ready to get going again.
Also, as Serani said, activity is activity and I'm about to launch into a huge round of spring cleaning so that should help too - yea!
Thanks for posting the recipe, Serani!! I've been eyeing that one as Sagar loves chocolate eclairs so I'm glad to hear it's good :D . Do you want to add it to the recipes sticky thread as well so it doesn't get lost?

My exercise has consisted of the veggie garden and moving rocks around the pond...Its not the same as aerobic activity, but I justify it as resistive exercises. :)

I've lost about 25 pounds in the last six months more or less by just watching my food types and portion sizes. Does that count?
Regular exercise has never been a favorite of mine. But, I'll have to do it eventually. One thing at a time, though. Trying to change all my bad habits at once never ever works for me. :)

Hey, I'm counting stress. It's working for me.

Ummmm, I was just thinking. Evenstarr, you are the last person that I can think of who needs to be dieting! I should be dieting before you! :D
Girlfriend, you look great!
Not that anyone here doesn't! :D
But I mean really! You looked great when I saw you around Easter time!

This is my problem as well. Usually I try to counteract it by limiting myself to one helping and trying to eat slow. Still, if I'm not careful I can eat two plates of dinner in the time it takes everyone else to eat one, then I'm beyond full when it sets in.
My mother actually told me she thinks my eating fast is a result of being fed at the same time as the dog when I was little. She'd put my plate down in front of my high chair, then pour the dog's food into his bowl next to me. Eventually it became a race to see who could finish first. Perhaps that's why to this day I still have the urge to use my tongue to slurp up my water...
OH, and I've lost about 10 pounds since all this started, mostly by eating healthier and trying to walk and use the stairs more. I've also been under a ton of stress both at work and at home, so I'm sure that's helped me lose a few pounds!

I was actually talking about this speed eating problem w/ my g/f over the weekend b/c I have to too. We believe it came from my growing up w/ 4 brothers. If you didn't speed eat, you wouldn't get seconds b/c there'd be none left after the other brothers got theirs. And if you didn't get seconds, you go to bed hungry.
