Well I am very happy to be getting back on track. Literally and figuratively. I picked up my rollerblades once more and have been averaging 4-5 miles at the local track. It equates to about 30 minutes of non-stop aerobic exercise for me. The track is fairly smooth and is situated on the grounds of The Maryland School f/t Blind so it doesn't get too much use by the public and I am in a safe environment. I feel so much better than before, it is amazing!
Hope all is well with everyone else who is maintaining or striving for a healthier lifestyle!
:D :D :D

I'm busy eating the carbs that are being ignored by all the folks doing Atkins.

Right on, both of you! Hehe!
B/c I'm taking two trips to the beach this summer (one of them a 2 week stay in Hawaii) I'm trying to cut down on what I eat. I still haven't gotten back into working out but I figure if I eat salads for lunch and a small dinner I should lose enough to not want to drown myself when we get there.

Excellent line. I will be stealing it to make myself seem funny.

Great. I could use some help making sure they're not all going to waist.

Guys, even though I am at fault here too, we were specifically asked not to derail threads in this forum.

Yes, it is possible to make a low carb roll, but they prefer to walk.

I still think the funniest post in this thread is Caylor talking about roller blading at the school for the blind. The images that puts in my head are so wrong, and yet so entertaining!

Add in the following quote

... Can you imagine a track that wasn't fairly smooth for the blind? :D
Imagine some smartass putting several hurdles in the middle of the track or, even worse, speed bumps...

Or the sounds of cars screeching to a halt and crashing all around the person. :D

Its all good! When working at the School humor was our biggest ally in keeping our sanity. (Its been awhile since I worked there!) The jokes we would come up with rival working in a hospital.
The track has a black top coating on it (though there are signs of wear) and is on a very flat area by a stream. There are cables that help separate an added track for running the 50 yard dash. The students can hold onto a cable loop and run at their pace instead of sighted guide. At one time there was a cable lining the inner loop, but it was removed for easier lawn care and to have better access to the baseball diamond. Yes, most of the students have some vision! Only about 10 % are totally blind. So kickball with a sound device in the ball is a good game to watch!
And I was never more amazed than seeing a 12 year old boy, born without eyes, ride a 2 wheeled bike in a parking lot with 4 other students (who have some vision) given ONLY verbal directions! David was a great kid.
I 'll try to post some pics at some time. I'll see if I can catch Greebo with his blades on!

That reminded me of something i saw on the Discovery Channel's one show 'More Than Human". A blind man who's name I've completely forgotten actually trained his ears to use echo-location just like a bat in the dark. He's taught several other people how to use it as well. He makes clicking sounds with his tongue and can identify large objects around him. One person he trained was being interviewed and he pointed directly at where the microphone boom was above him. He even got on a bike and took a ride down a low traffic road in his neighborhood, all using echo location to keep from crashing into things. Really wish I could remember the guy's name. Was definitely one of the most amazing things I've seen a disabled person, hell a human being do!
Edit: Man's name is Daniel Kish. He's the Executive Director of World Access for the Blind (http://www.worldaccessfortheblind.org/publicationandInfo.htm).

Wow, that is awesome! I never heard of it being used and taught before.
