----------------------

Greetings:

I am currently finding that the societies seem a bit confusing to a lot of players. I would like to have "confirmation" on my petition and woud like this confirmed by a GM. In Beta, we were told by Begn the Designer of the system that a player could join "one" wholesale society and "one" specialized society at once but not two of each. This means that we can be a member of one wholesale and one specialized society at one time. Is this accurate? I'm finding that I have to ask NPCs to let me in and status points are disappearing randomly for me. In addition, I'm having difficulty with guild chat when I enter one of the socieities. I would like confirmation please.

Add Message Number 1:

I would like to reiterate again that I want "full confirmation" on whether or not you can only be in one society period. This means whether or not you can be in one wholesale and one specialized society at the same time. I would like this again confirmed by a lead GM or world builder. Thank you.

My Response One full day later:

GM Grog the Humble wrote to me:

Hello Padashar -

This is GM Grog and I received your petition regarding crafting societies. I can confirm that it is now intended that players can only be a member of one crafting society. If a player joins a second society, it will remove their membership from the first society. This will wipe their progress and status within the society. This will not erase any pending quests for the former society out of one's journal. However, it does make them impossible to complete until the player again joins the society from which the quest was given. The crafting quests can not be deleted from the journal.

Good luck and adventure on, Padashar.

My petition was a very detailed question on whether we were able to join a wholesale society and a specialized tradeskill society at one time. Given that I made sure he gave a detailed post and confirmed it before responding, I can now safely say that the new system is different from the one in beta.

You can now join only "one" society period. You cannot join a wholesale and a specialized society at the same time anymore. I have confirmed everything he said in my own window. After joining the wholesale society after gaining 100 status points in my tradewinds sages society, I lost those status points. After rejoining the tradewinds sages society and doing two more quests, I logged off for the evening.

The next morning (today) all my status was fine and still intact. I only show up in one society (tradewinds) and no more guild chat bugs occur. Also, I do not have to ask the NPC over and over anymore to join. They have fixed that.

So now the question is - now what?

We HAVE to join the advanced guild. No choice. If we keep switching, neither will advance.

So I guess we join our advanced guilds, use a mule to buy supplies at the wholesaler (until the advanced guild advances) and do our trading w/ each other in the bank?

Yea, I think a mule or anyone that doesn't want to do tradeskills can get the stuff we need from the wholesaler.

How important is it to advance in a guild? I've been doing the quests because they've been a fun add-on while component hunting, but I wasn't sure of the value in them.

You need to advance the tradeskill instance's level in order to get their merchant able to sell more than just fuel and water.

And we HAVE to join the advanced guild to buy the books. *sigh*

Is there a point to being a member of the advanced guild other than buying the books? Do they become more valuable to us as a guild like the wholesellers do?

If not, then I'd recommend we have an alt or mule as a member of the advanced society who buys books to allow points earned with the wholeseller to remain with your main character.

Except your mule has to be level 10 and of the same sub specialty as you.

And with four characters per account MAX, thats a bit of an infringement if you have more than 1 char you plan to play.

I can put Sumadon as a mule in Qeynos wholesaler and serve both Geraden and Graebo. I can't do the reverse.

only prob with that is that you have to have atleast 3 mules for the tier 2 tradeskill class then you would need 9 mules for tier 3 if you want to go that route... Unfortunatly it would be easyer to have the wholesale mule :(

Q:

Theres only 4 tradeskill zones. The specialty zones sell books for all three final classes.

I see two options for Arelas at this point. I can stay in the Keepers guild permanently and not make any low level items. In theory, this should work since we have plenty of people able to make any of the low level recipes. This will let me improve keepers significantly. Alternately I can keep swapping (and at least up to two days ago you did NOT lose your points when you swapped to a guild inside the same suburb). Either way, I fully intend to keep running the workshop quests. They yield 50s at T2. Last I checked I was still maintaining rank in both guilds. I was at 4th in Truthbringers and 3rd in Keepers.

Sounds like they need to put another vendor in the advance guild. Either that or add the basic materials to the existing one. Any indication that SOE has recognised that this is a problem?

Check your status again.

It doesn't reset instantly. I think its a nightly processing.

Yeah, probably the same nightly datamine that updates the Station character/guild/server info.

EQII tradeskills sound like a hella pain in the butt. Can someone who's played SWG compare them for me?

That GM is full of crap. In fact, the tradeskills dev even said so.

There is a bug currently with the societies that might of lead the customer service representative to respond with this information. You will be able to join 2 tradeskill societies. One will be a wholesaler and one will be a class society.

So don't stress, we will be able to be in one of each it is just broken right now.

P.S. Ben was on vacation but he's back now and is going over the list of bugs in tradeskills and working to get them fixed. Some of them have been fixed over the past couple days. Unfortunately, there is only one developer working on Tradeskills and that's Ben. In beta, he had an assistant (a floater) but now he's working on it alone so things won't be fixed as fast as some of the other areas in the game that have multiple developers.

This is a relief. The TS Forums were feelnig VERY desolate.

I get no joy doing trade skills so I can us my 4 spots as skill mules if we need them.

Yukon is already a 12 shaman
Zabar (unguiled) is a 4 scout
Swampratt is a 6 warrior (but is a troll)
I also started a mage, that I could run to level 10.

Let me know.
