Something that seems to hold true from EQ1 days...
Reminds me of when my SHD at 45... decides to *TRY* and work up her 2hb/1hb/1hs all because she primarily used 2hs through all her life... NOT easy... (1hs wasn't that bad... was about 30 points from max, but her shield bash... Umm... Lets not talk about that...)

I went through my first 16 levels using nothing but a sword and 2H sword. Basically, I hadnt improved my crushing at all. When I did dinally take it upong myself to get a crushing weapon, I picked up the Iron Morning Star, which is a 1H Greathammer (Go figure, my 1H sword is a Greatsword too. On a side not, is there a disadvantage to use that instead of a normal sword?)
Anyways, when I started using the Morning Star, I really didnt see any difference in their functionality on mobs. Are some mobs more prone to take damage from crushing, such as skeletons? Or is it allt he same? Does the game even take into consideration about damage type? I mean, if its all melee, its all melee right?
If there really is no difference than just preference, then Im not going to waste my time building up my Crushing skill. Even though, my sword skill is maxed at the moment, Id have nothing beter to do.... lol.

There definately are mobs with higher slashing resistance and others with higher crushing resistance. For the most part, I believe it controls the amount of successful hits you will land and the likeliness that you will hit for maximum damage. I would definately keep both of them up and just test for 2 or 3 fights to see which one seems to land more often. Use some common sense when facing mobs so that you can figure out which one is going to be the better weapon. IE: If you're fighting skeletons, slashing their bones won't do much but crushing them will. If you're fighting jelly-like creatures, crushing them probably won't do as much as slashing away at them would.
It also depends on if you have one weapon that does much more damage than the other. If your hammer is green at your level but your sword is yellow, I would probably use the sword even on skeletons. Test it out though as you should notice if you hit often or miss too much.
