I honestly didn't think Horizons would last this long.

Email received today (look, it's almost the game I paid for!):

MEMORANDUM

To:

Scott Johnson

From:

Chris Tulumello, Tulga Games

Date:

Monday, 21 April 2005

Subject:

Horizons: Empire of Istaria OPEN HOUSE

A few months ago you were invited, as a former member of the Horizons community, to experience some of the the changes we made to our game. Many responded and accepted our invitation.

Today, I’d like to extend that invitation again. This time I’m offering you as much time as you wish, at no cost to you — between today and 19 April 2005 — to log in and play your character(s). Think of it as an Istarian Open House. I’m confident that you will find that our expanding storyline, technological changes and content additions will excite and entertain you.

Things such as:

1. A new, improved combat system that provides better feedback to group members and takes much better advantage of your client hardware to help eliminate combat latency;

2. New buildable structures that range from Tier 1 to Tier 5 and provide storage and added functionality to the owner;

3. Guild Communities that provide vast areas for your Guild to develop and settle.

4. New monsters and creatures ranging from level 1 to level 120 that challenge and reward the brave;

5. The Realms of Chaos, Order and Blight provide worlds to meet new friends, sell your wares and share the Istarian Experience;

6. Crafting schools now have access to Tier V and Tier VI materials, and an expanded range techniques and formulae.

7. Our developers continue to optimize all aspects of the technical game. We have addressed many of the reasons crashes to desktop were commonplace.

8. A new series of quests provided by the Trophy Hunters and Town Marshalls provide coin and experience to the courageous.

9. The Istarian world now has a logical progression for both adventures and crafters from Tier I to Tier VI as a player moves from west to east.

10. The Dragon Rite of Passage allows the magical transition from Hatchling to Adult Dragon enabling the only “flyable dragon” character among MMOG’s.

11. Soon to come: for mature dragons an Ancient Rite of Passage that will be both challenging and very rewarding.

12. There are now over 2,500 plots of ownable property located throughout Istaria ready to be owned and developed.

13. We continue our commitment to a cooperative Istaria with new content, new adversaries and new resources.

14. The visual and musical world of Istaria continues to impress many gamers.

15. You need not remain in the game for hours at a time accomplish and be rewarded – unless you want to.

16. Our crafting system is well known to be one of the most intricate and vigorous of any MMORPG available.

Also, this open house is in conjunction with our Mithril Giveaway, just by logging in, you are entered into the Giveaway. For official rules and regulations, please click here (http://javascript<b></b>:ol('http://horizons.istaria.com/Promo.htm');).

I also encourage you to visit the official Horizons: Empire of Istaria Community Site. There you will find forums with lively discussion, information on both crafting and adventure schools, locations of trainers and other NPC’s, current status of in-game events, a full searchable table of items for sale throughout Istaria, and much more. Just click here (http://javascript<b></b>:ol('http://community.istaria.com/');) or go to http://community.istaria.com (http://javascript<b></b>:ol('http://community.istaria.com/');).

On behalf of the entire team at Tulga Games, thank you for choosiing to re-visit Horizons: Empire of Istaria.

Sincerely,

Chris Tulumello

I thought that last sentence was a bit presumptuous.:roll:

Since our accounts are still active, I just got the "Mithril Giveaway" part.

They were doing some interesting things with Horizons when we got swept up into EQ2. If there were people there to play with, I would still be in the game.

I really like the permanent changes players could make to the game world. The community efforts... the common causes. I enjoyed adventuring.. and pausing to craft or harvest. *sigh* Such a waste. I SO wish Atari had never gotten involved.

I really enjoyed Horizons. The projects to open the mines, free new races, and rebuild cities was very involved, whether you were part of the construction or defense team, it was exciting.

The big thing that I missed in Horizons were dungeons. Did they ever implement that?

There are now over 2,500 plots of ownable property located throughout Istaria ready to be owned and developed.

Which means there are at least 3 plots for every player! Join now! :smile:

I really enjoyed my time with Horizons. I liked all the things mentioned above, the players changing the world, the crafting system, the sense of community, the dynamic storyline and cooperative projects. I also really like the open ended character development. I loved being able to supplement my Reaver with a few Cleric levels to augment his abilities and I liked the diversity that brought to the game. If I had a gold piece for every time I heard "Whoa, Reavers can rez?!". :smile:

It's just too bad Atari and Artifact couldn't get the game they wanted to present off the ground at launch. Going up against WoW and EQ2 now, even with the improvements, is almost pointless.

Even if I could play Horizons FREE forever, I probably wouldn't simply because I don't have time. Every hour I spent in Horizons I would be thinking what I could have been doing in EQ2 (or WoW for those who play it) instead.

I really liked HZ, and only closed my account this month. My biggest problem is that I didn't play for about three months with EQ2 coming out. The last three times I did log in I was the only person in the town where my plot was, and was one of three scouts on line server wide (and I was the highest level scout!). Plus without a variety of craftsmen I couldn't work on or finish my house.

Without more people to play on line with a MMORPG looses something.

I'd be open to trying it again if we get a group signing back up!

I liked playing ronk... but never did get much done. the newbie zone just didn't grab me like other games did.
