Hey,

How're ya'll doing?

So, I've been taking this whole aging thing fairly well - I turn 45 this summer and haven't really felt too weird about it (or any weirder than normal... and only by knowing me does that make any sense). Except for a disinclination to exert myself, over and above the walking around and picking up common household items level, my life has not changed a whole heck of a lot.

A little bit ago I was looking in the mirror, rarely a good idea, and noticed that I have GREY HAIR IN MY EYEBROWS! That's right, it's migrated from the top of my head and I have GREY HAIR IN MY EYEBROWS! My knees, immediately, started hurting.

My question is, should I start looking for supportive clothing and homes without staircases, now, or wait until I work up the courage to check the 'land down under' to see if the foliage is changing there as well?

ROFL!!

*whispers* There was a bit of grey in your brows when I came through last fall. Didn't think it prudent to say so, though. ;)

And for the record, grey is good. I won't give you the distinguished line (I think that's BS), but I've always liked a bit of grey. Rubi's got some, in various places, and he groans about it all the time. I tell him it's cool, make him sexier, but he doesn't believe me.

Not quite 33, but also with specks of grey in beard and at my temples. The former not as noticeable, unless I don't shave for a few days. I'm more concerned about my bald spot. Ack!

I'll turn 35 this summer and have a full head of thick, wavy dark brown hair without a hint of grey in it. Feel free to hate me, everyone else does.

Biaxin, you've pretty much got two choices brother, either go with the grey or start looking into semi-regular purchases of Just For Men. Honestly it's a mixed bag, some men look great with grey, look at Sean Connery for example, others really need to keep the color at all costs (Dennis Miller, I'm looking right at you). You simply need to decide which camp you belong in. Female friends are perfect for assisting in this decision, as they'll likely be honest and can suggest the best methods of styling and manipulating your hair to keep it looking good, colored or not. As a bonus, most women already know quite a bit about coloring hair, so if you need to go that route they can save you from botching the job yourself.

Always remember, you're only as old as you let yourself be. You are an active guy with a great sense of humor and an adventurous spirit which means you are never going to "feel" (or probably act) your age, even if you live to see 100+.

When I first started doing the grey thing (beard first - started as a stripe, figured I'd end up looking like Pierre Caudel, head later, beyond... well, it's there) I was sorta bummed. Then I got to liking it and now wouldn't change it whatever the cause.

Besides, if I ever felt bad about it, I only needed to remember a couple friends from college; one was salt and pepper at the ripe old age of 19, the other earned her nickname of Grey by graduation.

I turned 35 in February. As far as I know, I haven't a hint of gray. It would be hard to tell though, even were I looking - hair doesn't come much more blond than mine.

One of my best friends, a couple of years older than me, went from a full head of thick brown hair to a full head of thick gray hair in just a couple of years. Two divorces in that span might have had something to do with it. He adamantly refuses to color it. It's sad in a way, because he used to be quite the ladykiller (a la Ash, but not quite on that level - or so I've heard :lowrazz: ), and not so much anymore.

So Biaxin, I'd advise covering it up. Not that you've asked for my advice, but there it is anyway. ;)

I'm 36. Just a few odd sprigs of grey on temples and chin. Hasn't gotten obvious yet, but am well aware of the impending avalanche. I'm more concerned with the thinning than the greying. No matter Biaxin, continue to be young at heart and no one will notice.

I'm 41 and I've had grey for a LONG time. My moustache is now about 50/50 black / gray. Top of the head - still mostly dark with expanding gray at the temples.

Down under... *peers* still dark, as far as I can tell. I guess it hasn't had enough sun to fade.

Thinning and greying at 37. I've been thinning since mid twenties. Greying since early thirties. I expect to be completely grey in my forties, although no one will notice because I will probably be completely bald.

Remember Grey hair is better than no hair. (Gallagher routine).

I have grey in my hair and a large portion of my beard has turned grey. Never really thought about it or worried about it.

I worked with a fellow once who had gone completely grey at 21.

I take SOME comfort in those stories... testosterone can contribute (I've heard) to bald on the head, not so bald everywhere else. Given that, I should be a hormone factory. Zero killer instinct, however, so where's it all going?

Bah, age happens. Tis a bloody known fact. I don't worry if I get grey hairs or go cue-ball bald, it is what my body was ment to do.

Tis just the superfissial in all of you talking. Be happy with who and what ya be and that is one less thing ta be praducing stress in yer life.

You have 3 ways of faceing it (well 4 accually)

1) with grace, embrace the changes.
2) bemoneing everything that happens. (all these aches and pains, oy)
3) Hide the fact (Which dead animal will I use to keep my head warm)

4) just ignore it. :D

Me too. It was the late 80's and early 90's, my hair was down my back and in my eyes, chicks dug it and all was well with the world. Then I got a real job after college, realized exactly how HOT it is on a 100 degree day with thick hair down your back, and the above-the-collar era began! :lowlol:

I'm seeing noticeable gray in my hair now..... let's just say that in about 10 months I become eligible for AARP membership. I gave serious thought of hiding it with Grecian Formula or Just for Men - I made the conscious decision to keep the "natural look" though.

Back to bald face.

Tangentially reminds me of one of my not so bright friends in college. He grew a bushy beard one spring, looking rather like the Santa Clause fringe. Went out and got himself a beautiful sunburn (very pale complected fella), then shaved his beard off. Talk about a startling effect.

Hey,

My hair stated greying when I was 16, it's hereditary - Dad's hair was flat grey by the time he was 35, as was mine. It's the eyebrows that I wasn't expecting. It was all up in my beard, when I had one, but still, the eyebrows...

I've considering dyeing, but I live in Texas where a fella doesn't change his hair color unless he's also changing his area code. I was prepared for the grey (on top!) and as others have said, at least it's still basically up there. If I did decide to dye, I'd probably end up with green hair, or stripes, or something foolish.

I understand that amongst the younger crowd shaving the 'land down under' is considered an attractive option. Nope, not going to do it.

This statement of policy was brought to you by a cranky middle-aged guy.

You know the worst part about getting old is the hair that starts to grow wild in places that it used to be rather tame before. The hair in my eye brows begins to look like Oscar on Sesame Street. Soon you end up having to trim it or it starts to look like weeds growing above your eyes.

My 1st wife (the sadist) enjoyed waxing/plucking and would bug me until I let her manscape me. Nose, brows, you name it. People pay a lot of money for that kind of service these days, but I don't think it's worth the pain.

Hey,

A) What is the genetic imperative underlying the sudden growth spurt of the hairs in you ears after age 35? What survival need is covered by that little adaption?

B) My best friend, who is a furry guy, decided to shave some of said fur to turn his wife on. It worked, for that night. The next couple of weeks were a living hell, as he itched and she got scratched.

C) Stay the heck away from my fingernails!

For about four years I buzzed my own hair like that. Was cheap and easy. So nice to deal with because you don't have to. A few months ago I got lazy and didn't buzz it for awhile, grew out long enough to lay over and part. Now I'm getting the compliments from the gals in the office, and from other womenfolk I haven't met before. Gotta say, that's incentive to keep it looking like this.

Ain't genetics grand?I'm headed that way, it seems. Closing in on 27 and my hair is starting to thin out a little. My hair line has started climbing away from my temples as well. It is still dirty blonde though, and probably not even noticable to anyone, but myself. My father's hair did the same, but seemed to stop at some point. He's closing in on the big 5-0 (man, time flies) and his is still all there, although a bit thin in places. Hopefully mine follows suit.

Hair color can be very odd. Up until a about 3 years ago I had always resisted growing facial hair on the belief that it looked rather scraggly and incomplete on me. My wife finally convinced me to give it a chance though. Imagine my surprise when the stuff grew in a light reddish-brown in stark contrast to the rest of my hair which is a very dark brown! WTH?!

It has since darkened to at least somewhat match, but it's still a couple shades lighter than all my other hair, but nobody seems to notice anymore.

As for shaving the uh, nether regions...About a year and a half ago I had surgery to repair a hernia. Before the surgery, they had to shave me down there. As I lay in my hospital bed watching ESPN2's Cold Pizza I feverently prayed to the gods to send me the largest and homeliest nurse the hospital could offer. Fate was kind and the gods smiled upon me, as that's exactly what I got and the trauma of having some strange woman shave my manly parts was severely lessened. HOWEVER, since I was only having a hernia on my right side repaired, I only got HALF a shave job. After surgery I looked like some demented before and after commercial for male porn star hygene!

I'll tell you all right now that it itched and prickled like a mother&#$%er growing back in. Combined with the stiches from the hernia repair this was signifcantly less than cool. I would have a very hard time doing that to myself intentionally knowing the discomfort I'd have to go through if I did not keep it that way continuously. When the topic comes up while chatting with groups of women (don't look at me, I don't start these conversations) I now have all new respect for the ladies who are willing to do this to enhance their appearance or make their men happy.

I started getting grey hair at 18! I can thank my mom for that as she did as well. Now at nearly fourty still with a ton of hair (too much at times and has to be thinned) my hair is half grey. My beard, when it grows enough to tell, is a mix of grey, dark brown and red. Red comes from father side and is the only place it shows up.
