Sunday: Did the 2nd half of my new upper body routine. Still had to really "will" my left bicep through it's last couple of reps. We'll see how this routine goes... it basically breaks my old one in half and switches a few exercises. I'm definitely gonna have to get some heavier iron.

Got out this morning for 1h30m ride, was about 18 miles. Fairly easy, was using the ride to finally get the mileage set just right on my computer. Probably won't get a ride in this week, until next Sunday when I start the AIDS Ride. 85 miles the first day.

Wednesday Morning: Last night I borrowed my sister-in-law's "Gazelle", because I've been wanting to get some cardio in before breakfast. I'm not sure what to think of it... anything over about 4.5mph and the motion becomes... wobbly or something... it's claim is that it's less impact than fast walking (which makes sense, given the suspended nature) but the way your legs move isn't really... natural.
Maybe it's a technique thing. Anyway, 2 miles, 25 minutes this morning but I don't think my heart rate is anywhere near the bpm I want...

We were out over the weekend - friends from when we lived in Lansing on Saturday night, friends of Mel's from work Sunday night - so not much done over the weekend. I woke up early Monday though (a sure sign that I'm getting old :| ) and got in a ten-mile run before Mel and the girls climbed out of bed. I haven't gone that far since last summer, but it felt surprisingly good. Well, for running, anyway. ;)
Five miles on my lunch hour yesterday. Felt great through the first four, but the longer run the previous day caught up with me and I struggled through the last one.
Basketball at lunch today. Full court, four-on-four, for an hour. Did the running after we got the girls off to bed this evening. Five miles. I wanted to do eight but it's been unseasonably warm (low 80s) and I'm still getting used to it, so I settled for a shorter run. On the plus side, I ran a hillier route than normal.

Eesh, that's some serious mileage. I've been trying to get in 30 minutes each morning at a 5mph pace (all this gizmo can really do without me flying off, I think). We'll see how that compares to 2-3 times a week at 6mph/30mins.

It's a little higher this week than normal. I used to race fairly seriously, though, so big mileage numbers don't intimidate me the way they do a lot of people. When I was still a young pup, 100+ mile weeks were pretty common.
Running comes easy to me. If only I had the same affinity for weight-work, I'd be all set. :~

Running comes easy to me. If only I had the same affinity for weight-work, I'd be all set. :~I'm at exactly the other end of the spectrum. I love the agony of the iron. Only issue I have now is trying to avoid creaming myself with 30lbs of iron when doing some exercises (skull crushers/french presses and tricep extensions). I love the way I feel after my workout though... like I'm inflated a bit. I wish that lasted. :)
Running... I appreciate... but I find the motivation difficult. IF I had a treadmill at home in front of the TV, I'd be able to hit it every morning. But for some reason, the prospect of getting up at the same time to head out on the road for 2 miles daunts me more severely... maybe when I get used to doing cardio in the morning (as I've started to do) I'll be able to take it outside. Morning is THE best time for cardio, but I'm NOT a morning person.

OK so that frickin' Gazelle doesn't give me much of a cardio workout, but man, my calves are killin' me! Took the morning off, gonna let them heal up. I think it stretches them more than I'm used to. I'm sure I'll aclimatize... but not... today... URK.

Taking a day off is okay for sore muscles, but be sure you stretch them at some point. It really does help.

Got a 20min run around the park yesterday on the way to letting the kids play. I would go longer, but the kids get impatient to hit the swings and slides so I haven't gotten up to twice around. I am not sure about the exact distance but I think it is a bit over 2 miles.
I have a Tae-kwondo midterm tonight so I wont get anything else in. Its not too strenuous (skills testing) but at least it is something.
My weight is up a bit so I need to find more time to exercise.... I need more time in the day.....
You guys provide some good motivation for me to try and bump things up a bit... ;)

I cut my cardio down to 3 days this week. I've been having some pain in my knees so I'm giving the joints a chance to recover. I should be back on my regimin next week.
