There's no HoE Reunion this year, but I'd be up for it anyway. If even just to meet this figment ;)

You know we're always game. Even if there's no official reunion, no reason we can't coordinate a date.

We're up for going again this year too! :D
Greebo

It would be a trick to schedule it then, since it runs:
August:
27, 28September:
3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25October:
1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23

No its always been mid-august to mid-october.
We need to pick a good weekend - each one is themed. We dont necessarily want to go on "Singles Weekend".
Pirate weekend and scottish weekend rock.

Kieth and his "friends" might want singles weekend... doubt the rest of us do :) .
Scottish weekend sounds cool, have we done that one before though? What's the difference in themes (different shows, outfits, etc)?
Greebo
12th July 2005, 02:21 PM
On scottish weekend, they have Caper tossing!
Pirate weekend is just good old rowdy fun.
Family weekend has lots of kids. Singles weekend has stupid singles icebreaker games.
All weekends are good, mind you, just some are better. :)

Hey,
'Caber' tossing. a caper is a seed, a little smaller than a pea and not that great a challenge to toss. A caper is a considerable challenge to use in cooking, I had a bottle of them for years.

We'd be up for a weekend of Ren Fest. I'd vote, as well, for later in September (or even early October) as it's much cooler especially for those in garb. That said, Scottish weekend sounds cool.
So, when?

Uh, a CABER is a large wooden pole.
Tulenyre
13th July 2005, 12:44 PM
I'd say Scottish weekend, which is the 17th/18th of Sept. Unless someone had a prefrence for the pirate weekend (I don't remember which themes i've been to, i assume all of them since we all go at least once a year).

I don't get it.
Greebo
13th July 2005, 01:21 PM
*I* called it Caper tossing, by mistake.
Biax already pointed out that its CABER tossing, not CAPER tossing, and then went on to explain what a caper was (not really necessary, since Carol and I both cook ;))
(And then I told him to do things his way if he wanted, we did them our way here ;))

B was correcting Greebo's misspelling. Greebo called the "caber tossing" "caper" tossing. Biaxin was correcting him, hence the period in the early part of is post. He then went on to describe a caper.

We missed Scottish weekend last year, so I'd prefer that m'self.
But then we'll be up for most weekends except the one where we're out of the country.

Ok I was just informed that the 17/18 of Sept I do not have free. Uh so I guess I can't make scotish weekend. Any other dates seem ok thus far.

pirates are cool. I'm not likely to dress anyway (saving money; I'm splurging by going at all ;)

We'll be wearing our regular garb, not likely to dress differently based on teh weekend (don't really have the money for a whole new costume).

I have no problems with you coming ... and since we're doing a game day prior to this, she'll at least have met some of us first, rather than all at once :o
Seriously though, if you bring the dogs we can leave them at my place with K all day, he and Tucker will have a romping good time (and Saylor will eat the leftover rawhide bits that K doesn't want, again, I presume ;) )

That would be very good of you. We've already decided that we want a year off from hosting. We want to just be able to go and relax and enjoy the day with the group. :)

I checked with Cindy and our schedule. That weekend works for us as well. Seeing that Dan and Sarah are volunteering to cover Saturday, would anyone attend a get together at our place if we hosted something on Sunday then?
I know Tulenyre would not be able to come due to possible friend overload, but what about everyone else? :D

Although I guess post-fest on saturday needs to be handled too, I guess I'll check with sarah about which she wants to do.
Serani
25th July 2005, 10:16 AM
We're looking forward to the whole weekend. We'll be open through Sunday, sometime. I found a couple of good hotels on the western side of Balt (near the 695/70 area) for reasonable prices. We'll probably be staying into Sunday, one way or the other, but since I can work from anywhere (and rejuggle my schedule, quite a bit), we're pretty open about just when we leave.
Greebo
25th July 2005, 10:29 AM
If you can find any on the east side that are as reasonable, I'd look into those too - since that would put you much closer to the festival.
Serani
25th July 2005, 10:33 AM
That was the other thing I did last night. Only ones with open rooms that weekend are $120+ a night, which is quite a bit more than I can go.
These seemed reasonable, they have rooms open and, well, it's at least not 5 hours away. ;)

Oh baby, I'm definitely down for this. If someone could offer me a floor to sleep on I'd be most appreciative... that and I'd need someone to drive me around, since I (still) don't drive. I can probably hassle my parents or a friend into driving me up to the Baltimore area. Although, if someone in NoVa could take me I'm sure my friends/family would be quite happy.
Kiir
26th July 2005, 04:42 PM
Noptov we have a spare bedroom I think if you need it, and since we'll be heading to the renfest having you along shouldn't be a problem. As long as you can deal with a super hyper dog.
noptov52

Metro to Union Station - MARC to BWI - Dan or Sarah could pick you up there.

26th August 2005, 01:02 PM
Hey,
I just got a PM from Shawn and Jennifer, it doesn't look like they'll be coming this year. Katy and Joe can't make it. So, that really makes just us local folks.
And since that is the case, it doesn't really make sense to do all the dinner things that we usually do. Because they were mainly good reasons to get together with folks that don't get to see us much.
So, here is my question. Should we limit the amount of dinner activities that we would normally have? There are lots of combinations to do.
Friday Dinner out, and Renn Fest
Friday Dinner out, Renn Fest and Dinner right after
Friday Dinner out, Renn Fest, Dinner right after and Sunday Brunch
Renn Fest, and Dinner right after
Renn Fest, and Brunch
What do you guys think? Should we pop a poll up here and get everyone's input?
Just let me know what you think?
Greebo
26th August 2005, 01:19 PM
I am for Friday dinner and Sat renfest. And sunday to recuperate. :)
Caylor
26th August 2005, 01:55 PM
Dinner on friday is ok with me.
Or
Sat. Ren Fest with easy to prep Pot Luck afterward...or everyone in costume raid a restaurant and get people talkin'.
Poll would be fine, but how many others do we really expect to hear from?
Kiir
26th August 2005, 01:56 PM
Whatever everyone decides on is fine for me.

Greebo
29th August 2005, 10:04 AM
Carol and I were talking about this over the weekend, and if we do dinner on Sat, then Cindy and the Lycos Kids will not be able to attend dinner, I'm sure, cause they'll be tired from the full day at the fest.
So I personally think Dinner on Fri + Ren Fest, or just Ren Fest, since we're all local, is the best pair of options.

29th August 2005, 12:02 PM

we should probably figure out time and where we're meeting ...
OK, so, thta'd be like 8am (or 9? whenver they open) at the front gate, wouldn't it? :o
Greebo
29th August 2005, 03:51 PM
Actually the gate doesn't open until 10:00 am so what about 9:45 am at the ticket area.
There is a grass courtyard in front of the main gate and ticket area. It forms a sort of rectangle, bordered on two sides by parking lot. Lets plan on meeting in the tree shaded corner that is furthest from the gate and ATM.

I'd encourage everyone to post their cell numbers as well.
For anyone arriving late, if you can't reach any of the numbers listed, check "The White Stag" frequently. That is the tavern/pub by the main food court and someone from the group will check in there periodicially - its a regular meeting place for us. Try to be closer to the stag statue - it's on the side further from the food and trust me, you can't miss it.
