Sunday: Upper body workout. Played tennis later on in the evening, working on my serve which up until this time has been non-existant. I can hit the correct court 50% of the time now. :lowlol:

I had every intention of running this weekend. No such luck, though. I worked in the yard on Saturday and we went to the beach on Sunday. I fried. Mel just got browner. I hate her.

Five miles today. It's supposed to drop back down to daily highs in the mid- to low-70s tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm really looking forward to that.
Also did some work with dumbells this evening - several types of curls and whatnot. I was going to do sit-ups and push-ups (I've been better about those), but ended up just doing the push-ups. With the sunburned back, sit-ups were uncomfortable. Mel was amused by this. I still hate her.

Nothing yesterday, but back on the bike to commute home today. 20 miles, 1h20m. A decent pace, and I felt like I was soft pedalling most of the way.

It's reasonably comfortable today - in the high 70s. Five more miles at lunch. Mel wanted to go back to the beach this evening, but it's looking like rain so likely no swimming for me after work. :|

Ran about 3.5 miles yesterday. This morning headed to the gym...did 40 minutes on the elliptical and then my abdominal workout.

Tuesday: bike commute home. was feeling good so I pushed hard the entire way. After about 10 minutes to warm up I spun up to speed. Managed to make the 19.8miles in 1h7m, averaging 17.7mph. That beat my previous record home by 8 minutes. Felt great afterwards too.
Nothing yesterday. Got up late, drove in to work.

Five miles yesterday, and five more today. Hopefully we'll make it to the beach tonight.

We made it to the beach last night - played in the water with the kids for a while. I got in a half-mile or so of running along the buoys at the edge of the swimming area. Underwater running is so much better for your joints, but manalive it's tedious.

Form is very important in delivering the most work to the muscles you are targeting.
The past two weeks I'm been on a high protein diet. After loosing 15 pounds (equal parts fat to muscle), we are trying to bring my weight back up with mostly muscle added. So far it seems to be working.

I hear ya.
One I'm really wondering about is lateral raises for delts. I've been bending slightly at the waist (and elbows) to accomplish these (25lbs in each hand) and they're a fun chore. Face forward and all that. Does that form sound right to you?
Only thing I notice is a slight "ping" somewhere in my traps when I lift the weights (sometimes). Not really a pull/tear feeling, and no soreness or ill after effects, though, so I'm not sure if I should worry about it. I don't know how else to describe the feeling... kinda like an elastic band went "boing" or something...

Sounds like a tendon as opposed to a muscle. I don't know if you should be concerned about it or not, though.

A little give at the joints is fine, and in fact recomended. Straight limbs put all the work into the arms and not the chest and back that you are trying to work. The bend at the waist may be a bit troublesome. If you don't feel your delts working through the lift, you may want to straighten it out a bit. If done correctly, you should have very little fatigue in your bi-ceps and tri-ceps.

I like to call this old age. Some times on lat pull downs my elbow will just lock up. weirdest thing really. If you don't feel nerve twinges or pain afterwards, you're likely ok. But i'm not an MD, talking to a trainer or PT might help.

Aye, i've injured tendons before. Feels like a sharp pain at the joints. I usually just stop any exercise dealing with that location till it goes away.

Feels like something "getting hung up then sliding off", if that makes any sense. It's not really painful at the time (more like a small pinch) and not at all sore during/after exercise or the next day so I'll just keep an eye on it.
I said bend at the waist, Kullen, in that I bring the weights together in front of me, instead of to the outside my thighs. Lower back feels no strain, AFAICT, and yes, the middle (outside) delts are the musucles that are tiring, as I often do curls right afterwards with no change in performance.

Ah, i see what you were saying now. That extra motion shouldn't effect it then.

It makes perfect sense to me. My elbow used to do something similar when I did preacher curls, except I would get a popping noise to go along with the "pinging" sensation. My instructor told me it was a tendon snapping over/past the joint and that it wasn't a concern as long as there was no pain. It kinda grossed me out, actually. :lowrazz:
