No we are not the stratics board, however the same rules basically apply (minus the one about slow downs from noon till 5pm eastern everyday), including username choice etc. In other words, innuedos are fine, but don't let it go too overboard, and try to keep it at least somewhat pc please?

Thanks :).

Hey guys since some of you seem to be a bit confused. These boards cost both me and attriel money to run. We would like them to run smoothly if you have a problem with a rule email or pm either of us, we will be glad to dicuss them with you. But we are using our own resources to keep them up and running, so it would be nice if you could understand why we would like to keep them calm and running under the same rules as stratics, so that everyone can visit them safely from work.

(and as for any gestapo comments, I take great offense at them seeing as half my family was killed by the nazis in WW2, and asking people to act reasonably on a messageboard is not the same as putting you in a consentration camp)

I only know 20 or so words, and half of them are dirty.

Hey,

Can I post something really nasty, if I use starkly clinical terms? Can't you just see... posts with penises and vaginas flying around around like pigeons in the park.

Want to hear a dirty joke?

Boy fell in the mud.

Want to hear a clean joke?

Boy took a bath.

Want to hear a Cleaner joke?

Boy took a bath with bubbles.

Want to hear a dirtier joke?

Bubbles was the girl next door!

Hey,

This seems to be an issue.

Two sides to this rascal, as well. On one side there's the people who want to have a dedicated site to use to communicate with their friends and be able to speak freely and naturally. On the other, there's the owner/operator of the site, who's shelling out the funds to keep the site running and feels a certain responsibility for what shows up on the site.

So far, the rules have been, basically, the same as Stratic's. The rules are set, no longer by commitee, but rather by one identifiable guy. This changes the politics a bit. It changes the way the group sees the site management, and it changes the priorities and options of the management's dealings with the group. The way I see it, either, this needs a lot more contemplation and discussion, on both sides, or someone is going to have to storm off in a huff. Better to discuss, openly, than go through the trauma of a major rift.

As for the 'Gestapo' thing... This is my opinion, based on my own personal values and rationale, but I believe that for the majority of our society 'gestapo' has lost much of it's specific meaning with the passage of time, and no longer refers to the actual people and butality of the Nazi organisation, but now, is used to connote the use of any strong-arm tactics in support of totalitarian/authoritarian rule. The term has become generic. Quite frankly [ref. prev. mgt. disclaimer], I'm getting tired of people getting up in arms over any generic or flippant reference to German Nazism, much as I am getting tired of people getting up in arms about any generic or flippant reference to American slavery. If you, personally, lived through such a thing, I'm very sympathetic and might cut you some slack thereby, if you did not live through such a thing, then you should shut the f--- up. I didn't live through either of those events, and don't want to hear about it. If someone uses those references simply as a scare-tactic in an argument, then I, really, don't want to hear about it. It's just my way.

Are we really that hard to keep under control? :|

*sigh* Try to lighten things up -- nobody gets the hint. *Grumble*

Fine - I'll say it plane. (<-- aviator humor)

BOTH sides of this issue are overreacting.

Dan and Sarah are indeed shelling out time, effort, and money to provide us with this convenience. Its very reasonable for them to expect us to maintain the same attitudes and behavioral discipline that we did over on Stratics, and I think we're not only obliged to do so, but we should *WANT* to do so, since it was under the Stratics banner that this alliance of gamers were formed.

On the other side, we have a lot of pent up frustration over the ****y performance of Stratics over the last year and are excited to have working software and a few people got a little overenthusiastic and went a little post happy or got a little *ahem* too colorful in their language. This is also a natural response because, at long last, we have a real working environment in which to communicate.

What we've had here was an example of increasing excesses: The posts got a little silly, and the administrative response was a little too harsh, and then there was a little too much backlash, and then the next administrative response was even harsher (and although later recinded, the damage had been done), and so on:

So now we have one group of people with common interests and wishes divided in two, with the posts getting meaner and meaner, because of a bunch of silliness and oversensitivity on *BOTH* sides of the fence.

As Graebo or Sumadan would say: SHUT THE HELL UP

Now - why don't we try this: Everyone who's gotten a nose bent out of joint by this little fiasco REPEAT AFTER ME, NOW!

"I'm sorry for overreacting and acting like a wanker. Lets be friends!"

I'm waiting!

I didn't think that anyone was really upset about it. I thought we were just kidding around.

Maybe theres something in some other post. I shall read.

There were some posts which were removed or edited pretty quickly, but not quickly enough. I'll leave it at that.

Well, my nose snapped back into joint after a couple hours. I've never seen much point in carrying a grudge in life and never stay angry for very long.

Whether we like it or not, this isn't Stratics, and therefore we abide by the administrator's wishes. It's pretty simple for me. If continuing to post on a particular message board is causing my blood pressure to rise on a frequent basis, I won't visit anymore.
