Just wondering if anyone else here was planning on buying the WoW board game.

If not, I'm willing to pick it up if others are interested in playing it.

I'm willing to try it, but I don't think I'd buy it.

Oh, looks interesting. I won't be getting it but I'd love to give it a try. Fantasy Flight games does the Game of Thrones CCG of which I have a pack.

if it's more complicated than Civ the board game, can we just play that and pretend it's WoW? :o

I've seen the Civ board game in stores but the mere thought of playing it frightened me more than I can say.

Been browsing through the book during breaks here at work. Seems complicated at first, but i think it's one of those games (kinda like that Camelot game Greeb has) that just takes playing 1 or 2 times to get the hang of.

There is teamwork in this game, too. And they emphasize that as the game progresses, it's all but impossible to do without working together. But it's two teams playing against each other, not everyone together! ;)

I have a copy of the game (it was released at GenCon in Anaheim CA last month). I had a chance to play it last weekend. Here's a summary:

The game pits Alliance vs. Horde (two or three characters on each side). No two characters can be of the same class. You win not as an individual, but as a team. To win, you must kill the boss MOB (whose stats vary depending on the number of characters). If neither side is able to do that within 30 turns (15 for each side), there's a winner-take-all PvP battle.

Each side starts with five quests (four "grey" and one "green"). Quests are completed by killing the quest MOB(s). Note that quest cards may also spawn "independent creatures"; these creatures, usually appearing in different areas, need not be killed for quest completion, but are aggressive (and thus often get in the way).

Each character gets two actions per tuen - these actions can be taken in any order. Options are:
--- rest (regenerate health and/or energy - you can do nothing else)
--- town action (regenerate health/energy, but at slower rate). You can buy or sell stuff as well. Items may be purchased either from your class deck, or the merchant (who sells to anyone). Items are sold for half price (rounded up).
--- movement (up to two spaces). There are portals. Note that one cannot pass through a space occupied by an independent creature (blue), but can pass through spaces occupied by other players or quest MOBs (red/green). Heavy armor may restrict movement to one space per turn.
--- initiate battle (required if you're in the same space as a blue creature)

Quests can be completed solo, although it's suggested that you team up. What happens when a quest is completed?
a) You get gold and experience. These must be divided as equally as possible among the participants, with the character with the least XP getting the extras.
b) You get one or more items. In many cases, you choose one from two or three items. Note that any items thus obtained cannot be equipped until the "character reconciliation phase", which occurs after both actions have been taken that turn.
c) You draw another quest from one of the three quest decks (green is level 2/3, yellow is level 3/4, and red is level 4/5). Note that no newbie (grey) quests are available after your initial four.
d) If you achieve the next level, you gain additional talent, chosen from your class deck. You also immediately regain full health and energy based on the new level. The maximum level in this game is 5.

Unless event cards specifically allow it, you cannot do quests of the opposing faction.

At the start of a turn, one will often do one of two things:
a) Add an item to the merchant deck (which can then be purchased if you're in a town)
b) Invoke a random event. Random events may (for instance) allow movement of independent creatures, add quests that can be done by either side, or make MOBs in specific areas tougher.

Combat... the game comes with 21 d8s (seven of each of three different colors). Your equipment and spells determine how many dice (and what color) you roll. Some items and spells require that energy be expended to use them. Note that you're limited to seven dice of any one color (so it does no good to have items allowing for more). The color of the die determines what happens. After the initial roll, you may have the option of rerolling one or more dice. Once that's done, determine how the battle proceeds - any dice that equal or exceed the "to hit" number cause markers to be placed on the battle board (I won't get into the details). Others in the battle then do the same. Then the MOBs get their chance (any hits they dole out can be distributed as the team likes, even among pets). Continue until one side or the other has been defeated (no fleeing from battle).

Player characters who die in battle lose any remaining actions that turn, and respawn either in the nearest graveyard or their starting city with one health and one energy.

PvP has similar mechanics, except that characters alternate (starting with the attacking side). The winning side gets one item from a bag (not equipped) from the other side.

I'll try to answer any questions you have.

I kinda liked the one variant they mention at the end with no PvP endgame. Just try to beat the Overlord.

Also, there's several mentions throughout the manual for ways they left the game open for future expansions. Can't wait to see what they do. :)
