Anyone getting this?
I'm planning on picking it up... /mutters about no Mac edition.
Asian theme sounds pretty good, and I hope it works well...
Of course, my Warrior/Ranger hasn't left newbie land yet... I need to try out other classes to see which one I really like... Might pick up the guide book to see...

Factions presents two new character classes as well - the Ritualist and the Assassin.
There's a free preview event for Factions this weekend. You should be able to access it from your Guild Wars login screen.
Also, Factions is a stand-alone expansion. Chapter One isn't required to play Factions.

I will likely hold off on buying Factions until I've completed the content in the original. It looks like Factions will be priced as a stand alone game (i.e. $50) so I'll be waiting for it to come down some as well.

I doubt we will. There are a number of games that we're all looking at, and with a lot left in the original, I don't see us worrying about that for now.

I'm passing on it. Tons left to do in the original and I just blew my gaming budget on Oblivion and Super Mario Strikers.

Well, I picked up the Pre-Order edition CompUSA for GW: Factions...
If you haven't tried GW yet and want a trial key... Lemme know...
Hrmm... Hopefully Samurai-style armour and weapons? /drool. But doesn't look like it.
/mutters there's no mac version.

Factions preview event is this weekend. I popped in and rolled up first a Ritualist, then an Assassin as a replacement. Seems you start at 20th level, with a full supply of skills, including 2-3 Elites. You also have armor and weapons requisite to the level. In addition, there is an NPC in the starting city that allows you to experiment with any and all secondary professions - and you can change them as often as you wish, apparently. The henchmen are 20th level.
I was sort of overwhelmed by the new classes, so I ended up not even playing anything yet, but it was an interesting first look.
One thing I very much like, they've implemented camera control during the character creation process. You can now pan, scan, zoom and rotate your avatar to actually see what sort of monstrosity you are creating.

I thought they already had this?
When I was thinking of making an elementalist (never did finish), I was scrolling, and moving around to see how her hair looked, the finished colours of the robes and such...
Gonna be interesting still...
Q: Anyone got the Prima guide, and if so, was it helpful?

Q: Anyone got the Prima guide, and if so, was it helpful?
I actually have the Prima guide for Prophecies (aka Chapter One, or the original Guild Wars). Guild Wars came from Santa Claus, and sat in it's box on my computer desk for 8 days while we visited in-laws down south, so I bought the Prima guide to learn some more about the game while I was unable to install it.
Avoid spending the money on it. It's flat wrong in numerous spots, doesn't really offer any strategies that I've found particularly useful with regards to PvP or character builds, and is woefully outdated with regards to collectors and many skill locations. If you want tips, information, or even spoilers, I recommend www.guildwiki.org or www.gwonline.net, two excellent sources of information that are free.

I also bought the Prima guide. While it's modestly useful for a handful of things, as Erudite said, there's clearly a disconnect between what they printed and what ended up in game.
Another sight I find quite useful for reference is guildwars.gamepressure.com (http://www.guildwars.gamepressure.com)

Ok, thanks for the header...
Q: Is it better to stick with a dual class (eg, my Warrior/Ranger) or pure class?
Raveneye
24th March 2006, 10:04 AM
It is highly recommended that all player characters dual class, as there is no penalty for it and it gives you many more skills options. Nothing prevents you from dual classing then only using one classes skills on your skill bar, but having the extra set of abilities is way to handy to pass on.

There's no penalty for being dual-classed. It just offers you a wider range of skills to select from and attributes to train in, so it's easier to spec out your character for specific things. Oh, and you'll be able to do class-specific quest for both classes, so the extra experience from that is a boon as well.
My main is an elementalist/monk. Through the Shiverpeak section of the plot, I put my accumulated attribute points into Fire Magic (an elementalist attribute) because it's more effective against the cold-based things we were fighting there. When we moved into Kryta and were fighting undead more, I moved those attribute points into Smiting Prayers (a monk attribute) for the same reason.

I haven't played in like, um, 8mths thus trying to get the feel for her again...
Now that I'm out of newbie zone, the current equipment I have isn't that great, right? Think I have most of you on friend list... Guild Wise, I dunno...

Nobody who is in the "official" Guild Wars LoW is playing anymore. I've thought about forming an all new version just for us latecomers...

One nice thing about the Friends list, you only need to include one name on any given account. If they're playing an alt, you'll see the account name you have listed, then the current character name they're under in parentheses. I think that's a very sweet implementation.

Please do, or we can? We'd love to be guilded with you guys, but we didn't want to interrupt your game night for administrative stuff like guilding, if we even could be guilded?
If you guys would rather not muck with the details, we'll be happy to learn the ins and outs of the guild interface, etc... :D

That pink cloak with the stars on it was pretty snazzy. We gotta get us one of those.

There are armor crafters in Ascalon City, post-Searing, that will make new armor for you. It's 50gp per piece, plus assorted materials depending on your class. These pieces are decent upgrades to what you're wearing when you come out of pre-Searing.
As you advance through the game and unlock more cities and outposts, crafters with better upgrades become available.

So, the cloak I currently have (black, red with silvery logo) is the old LoW cloak?
Love the graphics details in the game... If only WoW was like that, and not so cartoony... esp on the hands... ARGH...
Love my dances though... with the lil' flame...

If you have a cloak it's probably a LoW one, only way to get them as far as I know is to be guilded.
I'll PM Atty about the guild. I don't want to step on any toes, and if it's just a matter of him logging in real fast to add me as a officer that can guild folks, well then that's easy enough and Chari doesn't need to change outerwear.
I think that pink cloak with the stars is an all female toon guild. I saw them in Ascalon City one day dancing in sync on the steps wearing nothing but the cloaks. Pretty disturbing actually...

Playing around with the character creation...
Wow, very nice! Different new looks when making new characters either in the Prophesy or the Faction side... Hairstyle and facial...
The factional, the faces look more asian to me... but that's just my guess and percieved looks...
Looks pretty cool so far... (hrms) Ranger/Assassin...

Talked to Atty via PM. When he gets back he's going to guild me and officerize me or whatever it takes to allow me to tag everyone else who is playing now. We should all have nice billowing cloaks in a week or so...

Raveneye would get a disco ball and some transparent John Travolta clones backing him up. :lowrazz:
