Alright, I'm looking at friggen screen shots between WoW and Guild Wars to see which has the more knewl "yeah that's me" looking character to see which game I want to play.
Is that sad or what? Erudite, thawp me. Back in the old days I actually asked about rules and stuff. Now I figure I can live with anything so long as I look Onnie-ish while doing it and the connection is good.

Okay, I think I messed up. But at least I'm only level 2. hehe... I was told to go talk to the other guild masters about other professions to learn more. Well, I went to talk to the Elem. Guild master now I have Elem spells. But I died because about 20 Ice monsters swarmed me. I just wanted to TALK about it. It still says I'm just a Mesmer is there anyway to... well back up on this deal? I don't like guild masters that suddenly throw 20 ice monsters at you when you are just trying to talk. And no I didn't hit her.

Yeah, after you finish the quest you'll get asked if you want to set Elementalist as your second profession. You can decline and try something else if you like. You're still okay as just a mesmer.
For that quest, just use the AoE fire spell she gave you. It mops up the ice elementals pretty quickly.

All the secondary profession quests will start by giving you three new skills (and any weapons you need for them). You then get tossed into some sort of errand - I think the elementalist's is the nastiest. Once done, talk to the NPC again and they'll ask if you want to become that class. Tell them No until you've sampled all the options, then go revisit whomever is the class you want as secondary. You can then go get your other skills in that class from others in the profession. I suggest this route simply because each secondary class quest is good for a couple hundred exp.

Yikes. Onnie did pre-Searing in one day! Every quest, up to level 7, and into Ascalon City post-Searing, all yesterday. :eek!:

Eh, takes maybe 4 hours once you've the hang of it... of course, as a first time through, I expect she'll be 20th level and alongside us then by end of May. :evileye:

Guess what I learned! Though you guys prolly already know this but... no wait I'll post it in the other forums.
My little Ranger Bixie Slayer I chickened out on. I made her go Elemental. Even though I did the necro quests necros are creepy to me. I did actually have a necro in EQ but she was an Erudite and they had a lot of class. Just constantly talking about death death death and more twisted death with nice thingys being tortured and more death ... I dunno.
I find it a little bit un-uplifting the torture part.

Onnie dear, I think you've set your status to "Do Not Disturb". I get your tells, but my responses are bouncing, telling me you're not online.
(Really, I'm not ignoring you. :lowrazz: ;) )

I don't know how I did that... I'll have to look up to see how you can tell. Let alone do that. I wish the instruction manual was a little bit more complete. Don't get me wrong the brackground stuff is great. It's got a very general overview. But stuff like Observe. I had NO idea what it was. I looked all through the manual and there was nothing.
Finally I just did it and eventually (due to time delay) hung out and figured it myself. It would be nice if the manuals would do like singler player games on basic commands.
Your Tool Bar looks like this:
Hero (It does this)
Inventory
etc.
Observe
Blah
Blah
Sure some of them are pretty self easy guess, or it is a quest in the game (Like Traveling on the Map) however, some effects are kind of important. Like the Moral thing and Favor of the Gods. I had no idea what that was all about. Asked Erudite last night why some other Goddess was talking to me. I just feel almost totally lost on wanting to do basic functions or on distribution of skill points. Plus buying of skills? I need to have a skill point left? Is that what that guy does? Not applied to my main base?
Then again, I ALWAYS have questions so maybe they knew I was coming and just gave up. But I'll try to figure out if I've put myself on ignore somehow and check it. Though I think it was connection lost to friends list that was the problem last night. It kept doing it over and over again. :(
Hi ya's Raveneye! Long time no huggle :) Are you playing Guild Wars too? I've got my main almost to level 9 and am still lost. Not just still lost, but she's still running around in her start the game with gear. (grins)
Seems to be doing okay though, she stomped a boss Charr last night that lived in the Breach. Go my team! Whee!

Yup, I'm in a regular group every Thursday with Erudite and GravenStone doing the plot missions. Raveneye Darkstar is a level 20 Warrior/Necro (a ressurection of my old EQ1 ShadowKnight). I've been too caught up playing Oblivion to log on for much more than the weekly play session lately though. I also have a Mesmer/Ranger alt in the 7-8 range.
For better armor try chatting with the Armor guys in Ascalon City (post-searing). They will ask for a small bit of gold and a bunch of crafting components, and will make armor that you will continue to wear for pretty much the entire Ascalon portion of the game. As you progress to each new major area (Ascalon, Shiverpeaks, Kryta, etc.) there should be new armor crafters that can create better armor for you. Collectors also have armor available in exchange for collection items, but I've found that armor to be generally inferior to crafted (at least for Warriors).
Check out www.guildwiki.org (http://www.guildwiki.org) for great supplemental information to the manual and comprehensive listings of crafters, quests, missions and such.

Attribute points acquired when you level (and applied to your professions attributes - Domination Magic, Marksmanship, etc.) are entirely customizable. Don't be afraid to spend them. If it turns out that you don't like what you buy with them, you can just "sell" your skill levels back for the attribute points and redistribute them. It's one of the better points of the game, I think. Your toon can have a completely different focus from day to day, depending on what you're taking on and what role your group needs you to fill.
Destrid swaps out fire magic for smiting prayers when taking on undead, or for healing prayers when he needs to help fill that role. And he generally solos with an earth magic focus as the collection of AE damage, protection spells, and spammable nukes is a nice mix.
As for buying skills - yes, you do need to have a skill point left. I would highly recommend checking Guildwiki or the like to determine if the skill you're contemplating buying is availabe as a quest reward first. Even if you have to wait through a mission or two, getting the skill for free is going to be much more advantageous to you.

Not to mention the fact that each time you buy a skill from a vendor, the cost for the next skill you buy goes up...

Heh. One of her toons needs fur squares (made from four Charr hides).
I went looking for some last night, since I remember them being somewhat uncommon. And I remembered correctly, if by "somewhat uncommon" I meant "stupidly rare". Destrid emptied the Breech of Charr last night (at least all of them I could find) and scraped together five hides.
Very funny to see a fireball land in a group of four Charr and vaporize anything that wasn't at least level 8.

Seesh where they that rare? You know I am beginning to wonder if some things are crit class based on drops. For example, I've found out since playing with your alt that Silver dye is highly wanted. While we were hunting I think your crit got two silver dye drops? Those were off little river rats thingys while we were looking for scales no?
Last night, all the friggen Earth Elems for me kept dropping gold over and over. I wanted load stones so I could get my upgraded bow from that chick who stands by the gate to the old abby. Took three map reloads after clearing it to get three load stones.
Bixie on the other hand didn't know what to do with all of them after getting her new bow within 5 secs of spotting a collector (already had a ton) and sold the pile. (rolls eyes at self) Little had I known that the bank slots applied to easy trading between crits. But am trying to unnewbie myself as fast as possible I swear! :)
Uh, I didn't know about undoing skills like that. Almost feel like I didn't read the manual. Maybe I'm confusing spells or actions with skills? Is there a name difference between the two? Like when I cast or have my kitty do an extra attack is that not a Skill I have to swap in town? That's what the manual says. But then there's the points from leveling up and aren't those skills? I just want to make sure I'm clear when stuff gets refered to on what does what, partic when money is involved. I try to scrap togther every last little ornate shield that sells for 2 gold. (grins)

The points you acquire from levelling are attribute points - they are applied to your attributes. Attributes are things like Marksmanship (for rangers), Blood Magic (necromancers), Fire Magic (elementalists), etc. Also, runes and some armor can increase specific attribute level.
Skills are the "spells" on your skill bar. Dual Shot (for rangers) is a skill. So is Charm Animal.
Most skills have a controlling attribute. The higher your level in that attribute, the more effective the skill is - more damage, longer duration, more healing, etc.

Okay, I knew there was a term I was confusing or it was broad brushing both groups in the game with the way NPC's spoke that had me unsure.
I think a couple of walking crits that don't want to stop for you but offer advice did it to me. Thank ya's!

Pretty sure I've a few Charr hides squirrelled away in my vault, I'll see what I can add to the Twink Onnie fund.

Hehe I found a town. Xell's now at the Frontier wall gate. I dunno what she's doing all the way out there except this;
I was at the fort just because I was doing a quest for that Ambasdor guy... Well I saw on my map a portal was nearby so I went, "Oh looky! Let's all jump through!"
Well I get told by the game, "You really need to upgrade your equipment before you continue further..." So I looked around in the fort and I thought. You know the game is right... the green arrow points that way. With all the land destroyed, old routes gone, stuff misplaced.. How the heck can anyone trust these town arrows. Surely with a hole that big nearby it has to be pointing in the wrong direction.
Let's go the other way!
(You really should consider up grading your equipment before continuing further)
Safety! -------> That way
Death! <------- That way
Xell heads <---------
At first I was scared in the pocket lands... then towards the end of it I saw Moa Birds. I thought, seesh! If they are out here I have NOTHING to worry about.
