View Full Version : Ascalon missions

I've been poking around the Ascalon mission arc with Durloth, seeing how easy the mission are to accomplish with just henchmen. Through the first three missions, it has been surprisingly easy. Part of that, I'm sure, is due to facing the missions for the third time now.

I had a couple of brief moments of worry doing the Ruins of Surmia mission last night, with the manic prince rushing headlong into groups of Charr (something I remember getting much worse in the Nolani Academy mission), but nothing too terrible. I'm kind of wondering how far into the plot missions I can get before going with all henchmen isn't feasible. :lowrazz:

I haven't done the main mission yet with the Prince, but I can run it with Bixie and the henchmen if you haven't done that one at a low level.

Seomon (Goldilocks - heh) hasn't done any plot missions yet. I'm happy to run him through them with you.

There are Ascalon-area quests that don't open up until specific plot missions are done. Cities of Ascalon, from the scribe in Ascalon City, isn't available until you do the first mission at the Great Northern Wall, for instance.

Cade Keeneye (my Mesmer/Ranger) also has no missions to his credit yet. Don't think I'll be on GW until Wednesday though.

Okay sounds like a game plan to me for Wed. if you guys are up for it:)

Currently I have Xellany lost in the East Frontier. Am wandering around looking for portals to zone into a town. Wanna switch some spells around.

I offically hate the Prince. He's a silly stupid whiny pain in the butt. You never ever run off until your healer is ready. Seesh guy, move over and give me that dang sword. Stop getting yourself killed you.. you... wanna be warrior.

THAT I agree with... Prince has no regards to waiting for backup, or checking to see if his reinforcements is following him properly... :)

I believe Erudite and Raveneye have dubbed him Prince Manic - and it fits. It's a pleasure to see him get his comeuppance later on.

Yeah, mission four (Nolani Academy) is the worst for that. At one point he runs down a hill into a valley overflowing with Charr. I was looking at my compass, watching his little green arrow dash headlong into a big bundle of red dots thinking "Oh $%@&!".

I should be good for tonight. 9pm is our usual start time, and we usually go until around 11pm-ish, depending. Hopefully I'll be alert enough - I was up (very) late watching my Red Wings blow game 3.

Have you finished any plot missions yet, Onnie? And, if so, did you nab the bonus objectives as well? If you've already done something, I'll need to either push Seomon through to catch up or use my N/R. Either way is fine.

Xellany died on the mission and I didn't try to redo. I've just been doing secondary missions. I did manage to afford for Xellany the real expensive upgrade in main town gear for body and legs. Oh! And got her the animal mask. So that's three things. Had to buy the leather squares for it but was good on the bolts of cloth.

I was wondering, if you have an expert salavge kit do you get better salvage? I've been trying to save up 400 coin but have had a hard time doing it with the gear perchase. I was just wondering if I should go ahead and break down some of the components that I have from named drops from char with the regular kit or not. Like Fire somethings gear (This can be broken down for crafting or up grade items) etc.

I've been hanging onto it. Also got like the Mesmer Crawl's gear, etc., that is just break down.

Plus in town there's some table that's a crafting table? Right next to the upgrade equipment people? I'm assume you make your own gear there instead of going to the vendors but not sure if I have the stuff to do it with/and or the skills plus any funds.

Have gotten quite a few charr hides for Bixie's gear. I thought it was funny how I was playing in the breach. If I saw a charr hide drop and swarming was going on, I'd loot the hide and either spilt on the mercs with my kitty or perhaps stand for a bit in case it was a possible pull out. Either way, that Charr hide didn't touch the ground for long.

Edit to add: I do have three dyes should anyone need; two blues and a yellow. Also got a piece of charcoal. It says on it that it is a very rare crafting item. Dunno if it is but if any of you guys have been looking for a piece you can have it.

The Expert Salvage Kit allows you to recover Runes and weapon upgrades when used on magickal salvage items or loot. You'll find you typically can't salvage quest reward items, but most everything else is fair game.

Expert salvage kits sometimes (about 25% of the time) yield rare crafting materials. Things that normally salvage for iron ingots, for example, will sometimes salvage for steel ingots instead. I generally avoid this, as the common crafting materials can be exchanged for rare crafting materials at (shocker) crafter NPCs for a nominal fee. Besides, I save my expert kit for salvaging runes and weapon upgrades. You need an identification kit for that, too. Once a rune/upgrade has been indentified, your expert salvage kit will return it to you on salvage. (If you've already applied the rune to your armor, the expert kit will return it to you about half the time.)

Hmm. Not sure what you're referring too, but you don't make your own equipment. All you do is turn in your materials and money to the crafter and they do it for you.

Oh, and if you haven't already done so, you should plunk down the money to have your weapon customized. The 20% damage bonus is helpful.
