View Full Version : The "Guild" in Guild Wars....

Okay, am I missing some big HUGE point to the game?

What is the deal with all the Guilding pestering? Is it something I'm just going to have to get used to? It first started really bad when Xellany hit 10thish level. The tells started coming in asking if I wanted to join a really great guild.

Is it amazing how ALL the guilds are great w/great ppls?! Damn, that just rules. The first bad guild that asks me if I want to group with a bunch of loosers no one wants to talk to; I AM IN ALL THE WAY! Sign me up baby! I'm redoing the guilds motto:

"Ignore isn't an option with us, it's a way of life."
"We put the I in ingore."
"To be ignored would be a step down in life for us."

Then it started with Bixie, she's just working her way around Char in the Square and the tells start coming in. I'm thinking, okay, I see all the shouts all the time... these are the more agressive people. So, I'm on Seas Dawn. She's my baby Elem and I've just received the first quest from the warrior chick who hangs near the guy that has the worm problem. I run to the Abbey and guess what. I'm standing there waiting for my picture to fully appear after moving in and I get TWO tells from people wanting to sign her up. I mean seesh! She's level 2!

I've never been so heavily recrutied for guilding ever. I'm almost starting to take an insult to it because I don't guild easily. Always been a stickler about guilding. One person even said, "Well you can always join for a little bit then leave." I'm thinking, SEESH! Aren't YOU the master of we are all a great bunch of people that love to hang in there together. So what gives? It almost seems like there's this bare minum quota going on that I don't know about and people are just desperate for bodies.

True?

Yeah, I don't get it either.

I consistently get whispers to Destrid about joining guilds. Not so much with Durloth, and not once yet with Seoman. Because I'm normally too polite to just ignore them, I send a polite refusal and go on my way - which is normally fine, but some folks get downright irate about it. I try to do my banking/selling at the end of the session in out-of-the-way places now, with less population. Ice Tooth Cave, Ventari's Refuge, places like that.

Honestly, we need to simply form LoW in game and guild up so we quit getting those idiot tells.

I had been trying to coordinate with Atty to get guilded/officerized in the original GW LoW, but none of those folks are ever on anymore. So instead I'm considering forming a new Legends of Westwood and simply using that. Raveneye should have more than enough plat on hand to form the guild and pick out a nifty cape style. We can vote on several capes before we take that plunge.

Sounds fine to me. Destrid has 6 or so plat tucked away, so I'm happy to contribute. With four regular players, and Caranthir looking to make it five, having the guild channel would make coordinating things between missions a lot easier - no more tells to two or three different people.

I'll kick in as well, as needed. Think it's like 100 gold to register and 100 gold for a cloak, so not terrible for established toons.

I think Xellany has 1K on her after buying her new outfit. I'm not sure how much Bixie has but maybe 500 gold or so. How much does doing it cost to actually make one?

BTW, got a nifty new hammer that I can't use. Heh it's Yellow Hammer of Lighting or something like that. Gotta show it to Seoman unless he already has one like that. It dropped and I saw, "A rare hammer drops reserved for Bixie Slayer" and I thought.

Onnie: Dumb game, get your tags right. A rare droped reserved for Seoman.

Good thing they don't have /bug in game or I would of sent it in. (eg)

That's a great idea, but I think we should use Onnie's idea and call it "The Really Really Bad Guild", or "The Really, Really Bad Guild You Don't Want To Join Guild". :D

Teh.

That's right we are the Teh [The] guild. Not to be confused with any other guild.

Did Atty already make a guild and it is just a problem of getting a hold of it? Someone kick Rubi to get it. Better yet, even if it doesn't help kick Rubi anyways. I'm sure he needs it since Sern is outta pocket. ;)

We went ahead and set one up last Thursday. I hope we didn't step on any toes - we thought the greenspam would help us get organized much more quicky and efficiently, as opposed to whispers between three (and soon to be four+) different people to determine locations and districts and skillsets needed.

Raveneye
8th May 2006, 05:07 PM
It let me form "Legends of Westwood" with a tag display (max 4 characters) of "LoW", so I'm not sure what that means. Does it remove guilds with inactive characters after a period of time or was the original LoW named differently?

Anyway, all current players should add Raveneye Darkstar, Destrid Rainchaser and Zyll Tsch to their friends list, then request an invite when we're online. I see no reason we can't officerize everyone considering the small number of people we have. I'm only "Guild Leader" in name for now because I was the one who remembered to zap over to Ascalon City and form the guild. If we want to do some kind of formal election I'm totally cool with that.

We need to pick out a cool uber-cape though. The possibilities were pretty varied. There is a section of Guild Wiki devoted to capes here : http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Guild

We need to choose a style, emblem, background (if any) and colors.

Some examples from when I was playing the other night...

Onnie, put on your damn guild cape and wear it. I don't care if it doesn't match your new green stockings with the taffeta ruffle sleeves and white smock on Xellany.

I like the icon on the last one though.

You mean the blue cape, gold stein and dark fleur'de'lis design?

I only threw those few designs together to have examples of what the capes can look like. There are a ton of icons, backgrounds and styles, so feel free to check them all out at the Guild Wiki http://www.guildwiki.org and suggest something...

I'd prefer something in green, but I'll go along with what the rest of the guild decides (as long as it's not pink or something).

I think we should definitely use the foaming ale stein as our emblem (in tribute to the Tavern).

Green + Beer? Okay, I don't even drink beer but I'm sure Erudite at least will blink in your general direction. ;)

On the detail, if we are going with the stien... from what I can tell off of the web page, Detail on the 4th row 1st one... It might make the Beer Stien look like it's sitting in froth.
http://gw.gamewikis.org/images/b/be/Details.jpg

On the fringe, I liked either 1st row 2nd pic. 2nd row, 2nd and 3rd pic. Unless we are going for sort of the minstrel look.

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Image:Fringes.jpg

The 2nd on 2nd row being my top choice.

On colours, I'm sort of thinking a Sliver overlook with yellow (for the froth) and white. Trimmed perhaps with gold. The back ground being perhaps not metallic like the stien. I'm not sure how the colours apply to the cape so it is hard for me to really say. But it's just an idea.

Beer matches anything. 'Sides, St. Patrick's Day is all about the green beer, and I'm (part) Irish. ;)

OK THREE NEW DESIGNS TO CONSIDER:

First I tried to incorporate Onnie's ideas. Hopefully it's close to what she was describing.

Secondly I went green for Caranthir using a similar approach.

Lastly, I made one that I personally like, mostly because of the black/gold contrast...

Let me know what you all think, or if any other colors/designs might appeal. I think we've pretty much settled on the stein as the emblem, but the colors and background are open for debate.

I actually kind of like the first one (haha!), but only because it'll match my 15k armor when I eventually get it (black with gold flames). I'm really pretty indifferent.

I popped back on just before midnight to see if Onnie had ever made it back on. No luck there, but I did catch Lycos on with his monk and guilded him. Up to eight now. I can't officerize anybody, so that'll be up to Raveneye.

Seems like a general consensus towards the green cape, silver stein, blackish/dark fleur'de'lis is forming. If nobody has any objections, I'll go ahead and get that one in the next time I'm on (probably Sunday or Monday). I'm prety sure the 2 plat cost covers capes for everyone in the guild, and that they simply appear on your character once I've set it up.
