View Full Version : Get Lord of the Rings on DVD or VHS FREE?!

Blockbuster is running an amazing deal.
Buy a 10-week rental card from them for $26 (incl. tax) and they will give you Lord of the Rings on VHS or DVD (your choice) FREE when it comes out August 8th.
This is a no-brainer of a deal. A DVD or VHS tape normally costs about $4 to rent from Blockbuster. With your 10-week card you receive one rental a week for 10 weeks absolutely free (no tax or anything). That means each weeks rental is only costing you $2.60 ($26/10weeks) a savings of nearly $1.40 a rental. And in addition to this you get a $20 DVD of one of the most hallowed geek movies of all time, FREE!
The one and only catch to the whole thing is that you can only use the card once per week (Sunday-Saturday) starting the day you buy it. So if you go on vacation, or skip a week, you lose that free rental. Now if you're like me, and rent at least a movie a week anyway, you've got nothing to lose, and even if you skip a week or two, you come out ahead on the simple rental charges anyway.
GO DO THIS RIGHT NOW! :D WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?!

WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?!
I'll probably wait to see what kind of liberties are taken with the remaining two before I decide whether the trilogy is worth buying or not.

I would probably rent the first one...
Then forget to return it.. racking up late fees.
Go three weeks forgetting to rent a new movie.
Rent one more..
Return it late...
Forget again until the last week...
Rent one more.
Well.. make that 2.. err..3.
Turn them ALL in late.
And end up paying $60 for 5 movies and the DVD.
Nah.. I'd do better to just get the video when it comes out. :P

Yeah, Raveneye, I heard about this deal yesterday too. Pretty sweet deal.
However, this LotR DVD is just the movie. From what I've heard/read, the Aug release is the movie only, for all practical purposes. In November, the version of the DVD is released that will include upwards of 2hrs (maybe it's 3?) of additional footage. Now, I've not heard/read this recently, so maybe my memory's a bit fuzzy.
Just an fyi. :)

Yeah Drax, thats accurate.
And I hate it when they do that. They release one version of the DvD early, and a better version 6 months later. I, being impatient, buy the crap version and then pine for the good version.

OK, Sagar's comment excluded, you're all missing the point.
THE DVD IS FREE.
If you rent movies from Blockbuster anyway, this is a can't lose deal. The card itself saves you $1.40 a movie times 10 movies, that's $14 for the math impared. You could buy a whole other DVD with the money you save.
Yes the August release of LotR is not the collector's edition. So what, it's free.
Yes you'll probably want to buy the collector's edition in November when it's released. So what, this one's free and you can watch it over and over until then.
Yes many people will likely wait until all three movies are released in the complete edition DVD special collector's multipack with free Gandalf bobblehead doll and Gollum drink cozy. So what, this one is free and you can watch it right now, as often as you like.
Hell, use it as a drink coaster, what do you care, IT'S FREE.
Sheesh.

I want a Bilbo Bobblehead.
I hear Bilbo Bobblehead is the main character in the 4th movie tenatively titled "Gorged on the Ringdings".
The Gollum Drink Cozy(tm) has a computer chip inplanted that says random phrases when beer is placed in it. "My precious! I needs it!", "Do not touch the precious, it's mines!" "Your mother sucks eggses!" and "Bring me another cold precious wench!" are some of my favorites.

Just for clarity's sake ...
Is that "Bring me another cold precious, wench" OR "Bring me another cold precious wench."
If you see the difference ... isn't that a bit ... disturbing? :?

Ladies man or not, that's not what disturbs me.
It's the cold part that freaks the hell outta me.
Unless, o'course, Gollum is a member of the NA...

I just figured any wench that'd be found by Gollum would already likely be cold; what with all the cave and water and junk.

/watches the PG rating go flying out a nearby window.
Masterful derailment of this thread, by the way. Very quick and efficient.
