View Full Version : The Bad, The Ugly, and The Good of Tues, 10/10/06

The Bad: Didn't feel too great when I got up. Had a slight headache start just after breakfast. Noticed some weirdness in my peripheral vision a bit later while on the computer.

The Ugly: The morning headache transformed into the worst migraine I've had (only dealt with a few before, thankfully). By 10am I was curled up in the dark crying. Took something with codeine and curled up in bed again, trying to find the magic position where it wouldn't hurt so much. By about 1130a the codeine kicked in, also having found a decent position. Was kinda awake at times for a bit, but finally felt better and got up about 2pm. I was hungry, durnit.

The Good: Just as I was getting up and dressed again, I had a call. It was Michelle from Kelly Services calling to tell me that I did good on the interview yesterday, and could I come in this afternoon to do paperwork and start on the jobsite at 7am tomorrow. :goodie!:

The job is call center work with Bechtel, and currently only scheduled through Dec 8th. But, the project is waiting for more budget money from DOE and Congress, which should be coming soon, so its only gonna grow. That, and the last three folks she's put at this position have been hired on to permanent positions with Bechtel. Which is exactly what I'd like.

Atty: Psst... Hey, bud... want a hit of some coffee? I know this really great drink for the morning... called Coca-Cola Blak... Tastes really great when thoroughly chilled. C'mon... Take a hit...

Played Guild Wars. Re-rolled Tomoe, and she's up to L5 now (R/E), still Pre-Searing. Not sure what skills I'm missing... Every time I go to the Elementalist trainer (in Wizard's Folly) I don't get any more quests for new skills. Other than her and the lass from Foible's... That's the only trainers I've gone to. Ranger, Got my Marksmanship skill. *hrms* Working on the newbie armour collection, just need spider legs to finish the outfit (pants). I've allocated my expertise points, but not sure if they were suitable or not. Still have 5 skill points. I think. I pressed "Buy" or was it use. Not sure if I screwed that up...

Work was quiet, toher than some silly worker cutting the Verizon line in EWR thus affecting that area of the airport... Affected Terminal C mainly.

Almost finished reading the current book...

Boy, getting chilly here all of a sudden... :D

Congrats Zyz - hope it works out as planned. And I really sympathise about the migraine - I know that wimpering in the corner feeling.

I have to ask, why do you need a mini-mac for mounting storage?

Anyway, played a bit last night. WoW warlock is now 22 and needs to find the next level of trainers for Alchemy and Cookery. Plus she needs to finish some quests to make room in the journal. Also played the druid for the first time since I created her, taking her from 2 to 6. She is now ready to head out from the newby area to Darnassus which is a good thing as I believe that is where I will find the alchemy trainer and maybe from that end I can figure out how to get there!

Watched an ancient Vincent Price film "The Bat". Truely bad but fun, spoiled only by the horrible lipsync (or lack of it).

Started rereading Steven Ericsons Malazan Empire series. The latest is about to become available in a reasonable format (I will NOT by "trade paperbacks", they are too bulky to handle comfortably while sitting on the john) and the plotlines are so complex that I feel the need to refresh my memory. Ahh, well, there are only 5 volumes so far (500-700 pages each). However, it is interesting to review the early material now that I know how the various seeds and hints are going to develop.

I get migraines all the time, so I feel your pain Z. Grats on getting closer to the job though.

Spent most of the night finishing up a little bit of homework I had left, then played some Civ IV. Watched Sahara, then called it a night.

Last night, I played some more WoW. Dinged Charity to level 51. Finished up a segment of a quest that now has me going out to Sunken Temple. The reward has a nice trinket that will add 190 to my healing spells. A very nice trinket from what I've read.

In RL, earlier that evening, I got a call from some financial company. A couple of weeks ago, Cindy got this same call, and I thought someone was trying to pull some identity theft scam, and I thought that because they told me that I called them earlier. Now, I know it's more of their tactic than something going on behind my back. So, I hang up on the guy in the middle of his conversation of him trying to convince me that I talked to him. What happens 2 minutes later? I get a call from the same company, but this time a different guy. I asked for his manager. He puts me on hold and tells me that his manager is in a meeting. Yeah, right at 6:00 PM. And he tries to talk to me more. I ask him to get me his manager. He still refuses. That's when I lit into him, using words that I don't usually use around the kids, but this guy had me sooo pissed off. And since I couldn't yell at his manager, I had to yell at someone. At the end, he gives me an f-u. And I said something that was about it's equal. But I should've said, "Now, I bet you wish you got me your manager on the phone, huh?" Damn telemarketers!

Other than that, it was a pretty good evening! :D

FYI, if you are on the do not call list, you might want to verify that. I registered my phone number before. I wasn't on the list?!?!!

DNP. During lunch I went to the local comic book store and tried to pick up Marvel Civil War 3 and 4. But they were out of 3 and said it's totally out of print. So I bought 4, went back to work and bought 3 off Ebay.

In the evening I went home, made dinner, watched Studio 60 and something else. Went to bed.

b/c i want to set it up as network shared, and i figure since it's going to be sharing for the macs it might as well be a mac ;0

and the linux server is outside the firewall (so it can be live to the world) and i don't think the share needs to be outside the nat, even prohibited or unadvertised. if it's outside, it's possible to break into. if it's inside, they have to get inside the network first. and by then i'm pretty much fjcked anyway

Lycos --- i have a lot of fun yelling and bitching at the telemarketers. it helps relieve stress :)

Congrats Z!

When I got home yesterday I had a bad headache. I couldn't face running, and decided that I'd just be grumpy if I tried to play WoW. So I ate dinner watched a little TV and went to be early. The headache is better but still here this morning.

I plan to play tonight after I run (and cook dinner as I'm out of left overs now).

Damn telemarketers!
Usually I just hang up on these guys, but one got on my goat a while ago and I started aggroing him. Without using any obscenity or personal insults I managed to get him so worked up that after I hung up he rang me back to swear at me. Unfortunately, I had guessed who it was and as he drew breath I just said "F*** you" & hung up again. I heard just enough of his voice to confirm I hadn't inadvertently insulted a random caller.

I figured that getting him to call me back was a victory:twisted:

I thought so too, but I thought that was because I do not like coffee, not because the drink was horrible on its own merit. :lowlol:

Had an interesting day yesterday. Stopped at Quest Diagnostics on my way into work for some prescribed testing. Worked a full day, finally able to leave by 7:30pm. Made two errands on my way home, one to the pharmacy for my motherinlaw, then to drop it off at her home. Made it home by 9pm. Watched a little ALCS, then Becky and I watched Die Hard in its entirety. Went to bed way too late.

And I hear you, Zyz, on the headache thing. I went to bed with a slight headache, woke up with a worse one, and it's been notsogradually worsening all day. Took Walvert and Acetaminophen, to no avail. Stupid weather change! *sigh* :frown:

Congrats Zyzz!!!

DNP again. Spent about 90 minutes after work raking and mowing the lawn. We're supposed to get rain then much colder temps (highs in th 40's!!) starting today, so I wanted it taken care of. Could be the last mow of the season.

Later in the evening I spent an hour or so working on Ebay auctions, then read some of the second Temeraire book, good stuff.

Popcorn is a mac program that let's you pull dvds you own into itunes so you can use them on your itunes movie.

Played a bunch of EQ2 started off playing Mos and got about 30% of the way through the level. Then worked on my lowbie swashbuckler who is a lot of fun. Swapped back to Mos but logged to do a couple of things. Came back as swashie and played her all evening. Got her from 10 to 16 in just a few hours which was nice. Other then that didn't do much talked to atty some, and discussed options for a network storage device, I figure I'll let him get what he wants, though I did boggle a bit at the 2 terabyte drive suggestion.
